6 inches news SNOW! Puts the total to about 10 inches of SNOW total. And Lake Effect SNOW this morning 6 miles east of Eagle River!

The COLD will continue until tomorrow, when temps will pop up on Saturday, Sunday & Monday.  With some more SNOW mixed in starting Sunday. No totals to report.  You all may now DO THE SNOW DANCE!

The 9 day Deer Gun Season ended. With 10 day muzzleloader season in full swing until December 10. Followed by a 4 day youth hunt.  So the earliest trails can open is December 16.  Parks & Rec Supervisor is doing trail inspections every day this week.  Hopes to get all down ahead so when the hunts are done all is good to go.

Sno-Eagles are using the roller to help drive the frost down.  Then panning the trails to start to build the hard ice base.  There is a re-route of the Trail 3 aka Manske Swamp that is still being worked on.  When all done I will post a map with the trail updates.   Trail 17 aka Hiawatha Trail has be rehab-ed.  No more going in that wet mushy section just before Kick Back & Hiawatha motel.  Alt Trail 13 that heads south to Three Lakes remain CLOSED.

Lake Gogebic Trail Update – December 6

Overall, trails in the Lake Gogebic Area are starting to come together and all gates area open. We had a warm fall and no snow until Thanksgiving so there is still quite a bit of water and mud out there but some sections are in pretty good shape.
• Trail 1N – has been set and one of the best trails in the system thus far.
• Trails 1S, 100, 13S: Definitely some wet and muddy areas but we filled them as best we could and hopefully they start to freeze up.
• Trail 8E has been packed.
• Trail 13N to Rockland has been set with all gates open.
• Trail 8 West to Wakefield was set… but is in very bad shape with a lot of water holes. Ride with extreme caution.
• Trail 102: Heading out Friday morning to pack snow and work on water holes.

They are rideable but use caution and have a good time. We will continue to update as things progress.

Mark your calendar for the GOGEBIC AREA GROOMING Christmas Trivia Fundraiser on December 21 at AJ’s Lodge and Oven. Check their FB for detail and see you there!!
Think and be safe.

Snowmobile Information:

It’s 17 degrees here at Hornshoe central. I have been watching the lake freeze over the last four days. Just had Thomas repair a seam in the basement ceiling, so I get to watch plaster dry too. I know, “Hold it down you wild animal”. Trailwise, we had our monthly meeting at Musky shores last night, and Hornshoe trails have been inspected and cleared and we are at Bravo Zulu for launch. We do not have enough snow to play with, and we are at standown until muzzleloader season is over on the 15th, so we are hoping the models are accurate and we get some of the lake effect the northern clubs have. Our calendar raffle was a success, and a big thank you to all who contributed. I will try and be on deck at least weekly, and as soon as we go active I will report a couple of times a week or as activity warrants. Plan on attending Mercer sno-goers meeting tonight to see how things are going with the northern neighbors. Stay tuned. Mark

Date of Report: November 30, 2024

Snowmobile Information:

Happy Thanksgiving +1. As I write this, it is a balmy 17 degrees in the north woods. OK, we have a pretty good shot out of the tee box so far. I would say I have about five inches of snow on the deck, and a winter weather advisory of a possible couple more inches by noon. Hornshoe trails are in great shape. Another thank you to Lac Du Flambeau tribe for the amazing work on our system. Raven Lake area is wide open. Trail1 from East Boundary to the trail 5 intersection with Cruisers is also wide open. Note that there is a reroute to our club trail at Crawlingstone Lake. It ends there now. We have also opened up the trail along highway 70 from Crickets to County Line Gas station. We are looking for volunteers tomorrow, Saturday, November 30, for the final shave and a haircut before we snap too for inspection. We will be brushing and signing. Meeting at our barn on highway H at the transfer station 0900. It takes a lot of work to make trails happen. If you do not belong to a club, consider joining one. I belong to five, and I am active in two. I also sold Christmas trees for Forest Riders last year. The old saying, “take two, they are small”, I got kind of carried away. You should see me drink beer. Hah! Stay tuned. Mark
