The Snowmobile Trails in Ashland County are Open.  Groomers are out and trails are in GOOD condition.  Trail has a 4-8inch packed base.  Watch for machinery on Trail 21-13, south of Cayuga, trail being rebuilt by Forest Service.  Detour:  Snowmobilers go South on 181-183 intersection and can get on the trail by the little stub off 181 that goes to the trail.  Watch for logging where trail crosses Mud Line on Trail 12 (out of Butternut) and CAUTION, keep an eye out for chunks of dirt and rocks.   Please stay on the trail. Lots of Ashland County snowmobile trails are on farmers land, please be respectful so we don’t loose our easement to their property.  Order your trail map today!

EAGLE RIVER TRAILS
FAIR ON AVERAGE
New Snow Needed

February 28, 2022 – 6:50am 14 degrees – High today 28 – Low tonight 15

Last day of February & trails still open.  Heavy traffic again this past weekend & evil sun have brought the trail conditions to FAIR to GOOD in the woods areas & out of town.  In Eagle River & in open areas trails are FAIR at best with POOR areas as well.  There will be SNOW off & on mainly this morning & early afternoon as a weak system is coming through.  No totals available.

Groomer Tracking Systems (GTS) shows groomers back out grooming last nightAnother long night of grooming for the drivers. Only trail not groomed was a the one Trail 13N way up in the northern section of the trail system.  It is near Bucatabon Lake & Bauer’s Dam area.  Where Eagle River connects with the Conover Trails

To be safe please Ride Right even in the corners & expect conditions to change quickly.  Please no off trail riding.  The Clubs of Vilas County work very hard to secure easements from private landowners & folks we are losing many due to off trail riding.  So PLEASE NO OFF TRAIL RIDING.

Catfish & Eagle lake trails marked & OPEN. Stay by the orange reflective barrels. Surface slush with the sun is possible. DO NOT think the entire lake is safe.  Several sleds have gone in the water this season far from the barrels.

Please KEEP DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE!  And THINK COLD would be good too!  We’re going to make it into March!

Sleds still in the shop so “See ya on the Trails” real soon!

Trail Report – : Conover, Wisconsin – February 27, 2022

Reporter:snobuddies

Trail Conditions: Excellent

Snow Cover: 10-16″

Date of Report: February 27, 2022

Area Report:

The sun was out yesterday and strong! There was a lot of sled traffic on the trails, but the Conover trails were holding up.

All trails were groomed Friday and Saturday evenings. Due to funding at this late point of the season, there will be some cut backs in grooming during the week. Trail Boss Chad will be informing us soon on his plan of attack.

We are suppose to receive about an inch of snow into Monday. More snow for Saturday. The temperatures on Saturday may determine what precipitation we receive. Fingers crossed for snow.

Corners may be icy as snow gets banked up from sleds. Remember to slow down in corners in anticipation of it being icy.

Trail 3 still has the gravel section where it is coming up through the snow. The patch is roughly 250 ft long . Please ride safe ride right and for the conditions.

News and Reports:

Poker run ends March 5th with drawing at Twin Lake Pub. Check out conoversnobuddies.com for more info.

Snowmobile Information:

Please stay on trails. We are starting to have some off trail riding on private property and on the xc-ski trail. We ask you respect the land owners and the other clubs trails.

Also noticed several corners where sleds have lost control in an icy corner and have left the trail. Please ride right, stay right!

And when you meet a groomer, we will stop and shut down bright lights signaling the riders that it is safe to pass. If you are traveling on a freshly groomed trail, be alert for a groomer ahead. He might be coming back the other direction. I had a near miss the other night when we surprised each other at the bottom of a hill. Please slow down.

EAGLE RIVER TRAILS
GOOD – Need SNOW

February 27, 2022 – 7:38am 15 degrees – High today 25 – Low tonight 7

Evil sun was out yesterday with the pop up of the temps.  That along with traffic has broken down some areas.  The trails running along highways on the north side took the biggest hit.  Trails like 10E on the one way trail heading back to Eagle River has snirt in several sections.  Especially under the big pines that line areas on the trail. Compared to the one way section that head east.  It is SNOW covered & GOOD. Same for Trail 70 heading west toward St. Germain.  In the woods fine but up on the hills there is burn through. Through town trail is soft & yesterday road crossing were sandy which gets dragged onto the trails causing snirt. Today partly sunny in the morning & then clouding over this afternoon.  SNOW in the forecast tomorrow. About an inch.  Also Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.  No totals yet. Nights will stay COLD.

Groomer Tracking Systems (GTS) shows groomers back out grooming last nightAnother long night of grooming for the drivers. Only trail not groomed was a trail we locally call Granpa Grahm.  It is a spur off of Trail 10E about 5 miles out east.  It is one of several Trail 1’s & takes you to the Eagle Water Resort.
