Trail Report – : Lake Gogebic | Bergland, Michigan – March 7, 2022

Reporter:AJ’s Walleye Lodge

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: Good

Date of Report: March 7, 2022

Area Report:

The ice storm over the weekend has taken a toll on trails in the Lake Gogebic Area.    After the ice storm on Saturday, 6+” of wet heavy snow on Sunday brought down a lot of branches and debris on the trails.   Groomers are out – and trails are in nice shape but some trails are not even groomable due to brush.   The South end of Lake Gogebic area is being groomed right now and reported to be in good condition with the exception of a few wet spots – just have to watch for overhanging brush.

There will be a BRUSHING PARTY on Tuedsday (3/8/22) at 10 a.m.  Eastern.   Meet at Tuski Rd. in Bergland (3rd drive on the left).   Bring a snowmobile and a chainsaw.   Pizza and beverages afterword.   Aj’s Walleye Lodge is providing complimentary lodging for anyone coming up to help out that might need a room.      We’ve got a great base and snow in the forecast – just need to work through the next several days to get everything back in order.

Western U P Snowmobile Trail Report

3/7/2022

After a weekend of freezing rain and snow clubs are out cleaning up the mess.  We still have a lot of snow for riding.  We have snow showers today and a little warm up tomorrow but the rest of the week temps are in the low 20’s with single digits at night.

Please stay on marked trails riding on unmarked trails can result in the clubs losing easement for that trail.

March 7, 2022 – 7:26am – 23 – High 26 – Low 9

Back to winter.  Light wet SNOW this morning 6 miles East of Eagle River.  Looks to be Lake Effect Snow as it’s not showing up on any radar.

Temps for the upcoming week are forecast for the mid 20’s for daytime temps with the exception of Tuesday when it will pop up into 30’s.  Single digits to around 10 at night.  Next forecast SNOW is Sunday.

Groomer Tracking Systems (GTS) shows no grooming overnight.

As for the trails all conditions. Out east of Eagle River where I live Trail 10E is crusty snow covered with thin ice layer on top.  With the light SNOW it will make them very icy. Section between Bloom Rd & Loon Lake Rd that then connects to Trail 13 to town is thin & Poor.  The grade section just south of town is still Good.  In town all frozen, icy & few thin spots. These are the trails I’ve seen.  Have to think the rest of the trails in the same shape. So if you ride please slow down.  You can get in trouble real quickly.

The Clubs of Vilas County work very hard to secure easements from private landowners & folks we are losing many due to off trail riding. So PLEASE NO OFF TRAIL RIDING.

Catfish & Eagle lake trails marked & OPEN. Stay by the orange reflective barrels. Surface slush with the sun is possible. DO NOT think the entire lake is safe.  Several sleds have gone in the water this season far from the barrels.

Please KEEP DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE!  And THINK COLD would be good too!

See ya on the Trails!

Hello Riders!

While the trails are open; If you choose to ride, do know there are no groomers out due to conditions as they can not get through trails. In addition to power outages from this ice storm there are many trees and branches down. Our volunteers are needing to tend to homes and businesses first, before heading to the trails to clear so it is safe to groom. Please chose wisely and keep your safety in mind.

Trail Report – : Phelps, Wisconsin – March 6, 2022

Reporter:Phelps Snowmobile Club

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 15″-20″

Date of Report: March 6, 2022

Area Report:

The ice and rain perdicted didn’t do anything to our snow base.  It made for a crust on top of the snow.  Good riding can still be found in Phelps and Vilas County.  Phelps trails have not been groomed since Thursday night due to warm temperatures.  Once temps fall back into the 20’s or teens, grooming will start up again.  Trails are hard packed and fast.  Corners are icy and coution should be used along with common sense.  Please ride safe.  We want all of you to make it back home and see you all again on a return trip to the Phelps area.  Weather forecast looks good to keep the trails open for the near future.  Snow is again forecasted for Thursday and Friday of this upcoming week.  Now is the best time to come up and ride.  Less traffic and warmer temps.

Weather advisory over & back to winter.  Trails are covered with layer of thin ice with a little new SNOW on top.  More SNOW later this morning.  Maybe an inch.  So the trails are icy & slippery. If you are riding slow down. The photo on the right shows snow on the ground. So the trails are not closing. The red circle area shows a small section of Trail 10E which is snow covered. Just too slippery to walk out there.

Temps for the upcoming week are forecast for the mid 20’s to low 30’s during the day.  Single digits to around 10 at night.  Thursday SNOW in the forecast.  No totals yet.  Looking into the future forecast is for temps to stay in the teens to mid 20’s during the day far into the future. With single digit above & below zero at night.  Snow off & on

Groomer Tracking Systems (GTS) shows groomer/s did go out last night.  From the Groomer Barn across from Derby Track they headed north on 10/13 all the way to the connect with the Conover trails. Turned around to head back south.  Left (east) on Trail 3 aka Manske Swamp & grooming Trail 17N to Trail 1.  Turning around & headed back to the Groomer Barn on Trail 17.

To see where these trails are pick up a map or use the MapIt Vilas app or GTS app.
