Trail Conditions: Poor
Snow Cover: 0-5
Date of Report: January 26, 2024
Area Report:
After a few warm days this week, lakes are going to be the best riding, if you choose to ride. The trails off the lakes are going to be thin and may get mushy. Some reports have said that the designated fire lane trails vs regular trails are the best way to get from point A to point B if you choose to go on a trail.
The lakes are rideable but please do so with caution as they are icy and have patchy snow coverage. Always stay on the staked trail. Over the next week crews will monitor for slush pockets or any other dangers and we will update as needed. Always ride with caution and use your best judgement as anything can change at any given time. Swamp lands are not solid, so we would advise avoiding them.
Lakes that are staked are:
Moose Lake
Nelson Lake
Barker Lake
Spider Lake
Tiger Cat Flowage
Lost Land Lake
Lac Courte Oreilles
Grindstone
Sand Lake
Chippewa Flowage (including the River and dam area)
Whitefish Lake
Callahan Lake
Little Round Lake
Osprey Lake
Big Round
LAKES NOT STAKED:
Long Lake
Sissabagama
Chetac
For your safety and the safety of others following your tracks – DO NOT RIDE UNSTAKED LAKES!
While listing our conditions as poor is not something we want to do, we must warn and provide information with complete transparency. We hope you can still visit even if you don’t ride your snowmobile and visit the surrounding businesses! They would love to see you and would really appreciate your support. Our local businesses are working together to continue to offer fun activities and great deals!
The beauty of Sawyer County; if you can’t ride your sled, you can ride your ATV/UTV. Our ATV/UTV trails are open! Don’t have an ATV/UTV borrow one from a friend, rent one from an area rental business, or if you are feeling spontaneous there are area businesses that sell them. If you choose to venture out on ATV/UTV, just make sure you follow the map and always know the legend on a map. “Read before you Ride”
