Snowmobile Report – February 13, 2023
Ashland County trails are reported in GOOD conditions. Grooming is happening as weather permits, need cooler temperatures to be able to groom. Logging will be taking place starting February 10th for 2 weeks on Trail 8 from Parker Rd to White Bass Road. Please use caution and ride safe. Only 200 feet of trail will be dozed on each side. Detour has been posted on Trail 12. Beaware of more traffic in that area due to logging in progress. Area affectied is by Agenda Rd and Blueberry Rd. Enjoy your ride and stay safe!
Snowmobile Information:
Please stay on the trail. A lot of Ashland County snowmobile trails are on farmers land, please be respectful so we don’t lose our easement to their property. Snowmobiles may not be modified, or operated, to amplify or otherwise increase the total vehicle noise above the originally manufactured snowmobile noise level.
As always operate with everyone’s safety in mind and report any hazardous trail issues that are observed to the Ashland County Sheriff’s Department (715-682-7023 opt 1) so that it can be forwarded to the appropriate service.
The Tri-County Corridor is open from Superior to Ashland. There are still several areas on the eastern end that require attention but all known hazards have been identified and marked. Use caution when approaching ribbons, barricades, and cones.
Important reminders: There is no snowmobiling allowed from Ashland to Bad River/Odanah as snowmobiling is not permitted on reservation land. However, snowmobiling is allowed from Bad River east to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
If you would like to receive an Ashland County Snowmobile map, let us know and we will mail one out to you! Call us at 715/682-2500 or email us fdchamber@visitashland.com.
We did not groom Sunday night, and I’m doubting they will be out Monday or Tuesday. The temps in the day time have been hitting 40 degrees. Trails in the woods are holding, corners may be blown out reveling ice or dirt below. Busier sections are beaten down. Hopefully we get more than 1″ of snow with the colder tmeps coming back Wednesday.
If grooming resumes, I’ll post another update.
News and Reports:
If you find a condition that you need to report to the Conover Sno-Buddies like a down tree, water on the trail, etc, either message us on Facebook, use the contact page on our website, or even notify a local establishment. They know how to get a hold of us to fix the issue.
A reminder to ride between the orange blazers. Along Hwy K West, there were several 100 trees removed this summer to place new electric poles. Most of the stumps are still there. If you were to hit one, it could ruin your trip quickly. Ride Right ➡️ Ride Safe.

Warm temperatures today, trails took a beating. Tonight will be sending out at 10:00 PM two groomers. One going out on 160 and the other one doing trail 2 from Hurley to Marenisco.
Tomorrow will be another story as we see what mother nature brings because she’s been hard to figure out. We will do our dam best to make the trails smooth as they or we can
While the forecast for the next two days is not what anyone wants to see in February – it is certainly not a reason to freak out and start cancelling your reservations! We have a great base and there is still a lot of snow out on the trails so this warm up should not hurt us too bad. Snow and cold temps are in the forecast starting on Thursday. Just keep doing the Heikki Lunta (finnish snow dance!)
Groomers will not be going out today and tomorrow and Mother Nature will determine what happens on Wednesday. Today and tomorrow will be maintenance days for our Groomers and they should have all equipment up and running by Wednesday. If groomers are out on the trails – it will mostly be to knock down some bumps.
Groomers were last out on Saturday and hit 102, Trail 1N, 13N and 8 east.
Trail 13 South/Trail 100: reroute has been closed and trail has been reverted to original trail. Trail 13 now connects to trail 100 & Stagecoach Road. Please watch and follow signs in order to avoid logging areas
Mother Nature will determine what happens this week – think snow and we’ll keep you posted!
Groomers did not go out last night and probably won’t go out for the next couple of nights. Temps in the 40’s and rain in the forecast for Tuesday night. Lower temps and some snow for the end of the week. We have around a 24″ base so keep your fingers crossed we’ll be back in business by the weekend
At 8:00 a.m. it’s 23 degrees out with sunny skies and a predicted high of 40 degrees.
Last night we groomed 11 and 15S and early this morning we groomed 8E. We are scheduled to groom 2W, 8W, and 15N tonight and that will probably be it for grooming until Thursday due to the warm temps and rain predicted for Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday.
Over the weekend, our groomers reported very rough trails upon going out to groom. Without any new snow in quite some time, they flattened them out as best as they could, but with the warm temps and the sun being out, they don’t last long.
Overall, the trails are in fair condition with some good sections especially on our road trails. Trails near road crossings and traveling through town are bad with most of the snow and ice melted away.
Check for an update on Wednesday, February 15.
As always for everyone’s safety, slow down and ride right!
Washburn County snowmobile trails are still open. Trails are soft after warmer weather of the weekend. With the predicted rainy weather in the forecast for tomorrow, area clubs & county staff will continue to monitor the trail conditions. Please check back as the trail conditions continue to fluctuate given the weather. Remember to ride with caution and stay on designated trail surfaces.

If you rode yesterday & riders did there was every condition out there possible. We did not ride yesterday as we were getting ready for a cross country ride to Mercer, WI this morning. Going to be a real adventure. Will post some of the adventure ride tomorrow with my report.
A friend did ride & he sent me a report. Yesterday morning rode to Conover on 10W/13N out of town. At connect to took 13N to Conover & reported great The Conover one way is closed for the season & gated. That’s up near Bauers Dam. He headed to Sayner on 10W/7. In the AM trails were holding up ok. Sun & temps were burning through some in open areas. Soft snow. 10/13 in town trail bad. Slush & burn through. Did not ride west on trail 70W or south on Trail Alt 13S. In & out of town is hard as road are bare for the most part. Woods riding should still be ok. Freezing over night is causing very very icy in the AM & late at night. Please if you are venturing out SLOW DOWN & use extreme caution & RIDE RIGHT.
As for grooming, the Groomer Tracking Systems shows
East trails – 10E to Three Lakes connect to include 9Mile trail. Other spurs NOT groomed
North trails – 10W/13N from groomer barn to Conover connect. 17N to Trail 1 intersection. 3N aka Manske swamp.

All trails including the Cemetery trail were groomed late last night into early Sunday AM. Trail Boss Chad said there was more good than bad when grooming. He was able to pull corners back in. There are some high travel spots that have taken a beating with sled traffic and the warmer temps during the day. These areas are down to the base.
Remember that with the warmer temps, the snow will soften and push out in corners. Under that is the ice base. This makes the corners slick. Enjoy the ride and slow down.
We are watching the forecasts closely and adjusting grooming times accordingly. We may cut back a few days this week due to temps. If we can get thru the next few days, there is colder temps coming and some potential snow. We need a good dump to freshen the trails up. Keep doing the snow dance.
