Snowmobile Information:

It’s Thursday before MLK weekend and it’s the bottom of the 8th. Ran a patrol of the whole circuit and overall we are good. Two days of warm and freezing drizzle gave us moisture, and with some zamboni work, trails should firm up. Warm today but cold tonight and 25 tomorrow. 17 from Woodruff to Raven Lake plenty of snow and good. F trail good- brown from snowplow today but lots of snow. Raven Lake area good with some ice at bottom of corners.( Groomers- good job on corners!) 5 into casino good. 17 North from 5 to Mercer line great with a few stones but good snow yet. Lakes marked except Fence. Good running but watch frozen slush spots. Let the pigeons loose, be safe, but ride em like you stole em. Between weather and traffic the next couple days, we may need to stand down for more snow. Mark

Trail Report – : Conover, Wisconsin – January 12, 2023

Reporter:snobuddies

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 8-12″

Date of Report: January 12, 2023

Area Report:

We suspended grooming for the second straight night. Normally we try not to do this, but the current temps forced our hand. Several other area clubs also stopped grooming last night. We are all hoping for the falling temps today to re-freeze the trails and we can get back to business.

I made the trail conditions fair because I haven’t been out to see what happened yesterday with the warmer temps. If I get out today, I will make an update to the post.

News and Reports:

If you find a condition that you need to report to the Conover Sno-Buddies like a down tree, water on the trail, etc, either message us on Facebook, use the contact page on our website, or even notify a local establishment. They know how to get a hold of us to fix the issue.

  • A reminder to ride between the orange blazers. Along Hwy K West, there were several 100 trees removed this summer to place new electric poles. Most of the stumps are still there. If you were to hit one, it could ruin your trip quickly. Ride Right ➡️ Ride Safe.
  • To see where the Groomer is at, check out  Groomer Tracker  Half the cost of the app comes back to Conover Sno-Buddies to support grooming operations.

Area Report:

Snowmobile Clubs and County staff have cleared a majority of snowmobile trails after the December storm event. Most of these trails have been groomed at least once. All trails officially opened as of January 6th. Trails in the Birchwood area were groomed twice this past week, excluding trail 239 due to wet conditions in a swamp crossing. Trail conditions should be excellent in all areas that grooming has been completed. Please ride with caution as we continue to finalize trail opening efforts and stay on designated trail surfaces.

SNO-EAGLES
EAGLE RIVER TRAILS
All conditions – Back to Early Riding

The temp roller coaster ride continues.  Best news is it is going below freezing overnight.

Yesterday, even though it was cloudy all day & there was SNOW the trails took a downturn.  The SNOW softened up & beneath there is water. Under the water is still a base.   Due to this, Sno-Eagles President made the decision to halt all grooming.   The wet SNOW is packy & there is a risk of pulling up the base.

Most areas are still SNOW covered but really soft.   The ride we were going to take today has been put on hold. Hope to get out on the trails maybe tomorrow, Friday or over the weekend.

Eagle & Catfish Lake trails are open & marked & still safe.  Expect slippery riding & some surface slush from melted SNOW.  Always stay by the orange reflective barrels to be safe.

If you are riding please take a phone & map.  Let someone know where you’re going to go riding.

Last, off trail riding is a big problem.  In Eagle River there is a re route of Trail 10/13 that heads north out of Eagle River.  The change is at the intersection with Trail 17N. Across the highway from the Best Western Derby Inn.  The landowner closed a section.  The trail is clearly marked heading around the gas company.  It comes out at the Hwy G road crossing.  Despite clearly signing & orange fencing riders are riding off trail.  If this section is closed there will be NO direct route heading north out of town. Same goes for Trail 70 coming into Eagle River from the west.  If you see orange fencing it is because the landowner is thinking of closing trail. PLEASE STAY ON THE TRAIL.  No off trail riding is allowed.

Bummer report this morning.  Keep DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE!!  THINK COLD!

See ya on the trails real soon!

Trail Report – : Rhinelander, Wisconsin – January 12, 2023

Reporter:Hodag SnoTrails

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: Fairly thin but a good solid base

Date of Report: January 12, 2023

Area Report:

Our trails are fully open and groomed. Trails are in good shape, especially considering the current snow conditions. There is some ice developing on the hills and some dirty spots along the trail. Sled traffic has been low this year which has helped maintain the trails between grooming runs.  This could be a busy weekend with Vintage Race Weekend in Eagle River and MLK Holiday on Monday.

Without the fresh snow, we will see the trails continue to get thin, and an inability to fill in holes, cover rocks, humps , etc…Lakes are marked, stay close to the barrels for the safest ice.
Please stay on the trail.

Boulder Junction Snowmobile Club Trail Report – Wednesday, 1/11/2023

At 8:00 a.m. it’s 30 degrees out with light snow falling. Our next chance of light snow will be on Thursday.

We groomed 15N, 6E, and 15S last night and 2W to Keego Road and 8W to Day Lake Road early this morning. Our groomers are reporting the trails are in good condition but are needing snow as some corners are getting thin. On Trail 8E, there are logging trucks using Nixon Lake Road  from Camp 2 Road west to Forrest Road. This section of trail is plowed and is thin on snow and has some exposed gravel making this section of trail in fair condition.

If you are in our area this weekend, stop in and support our club at our Breakfast and Meat Raffle held at Gooch’s 2 on Sunday January 15th from 8:30 a.m. -11:00 a.m.. All proceeds go towards equipment and trail maintenance.

Look for an updated report on Friday, 1/13/23.

Trail Report – : Sayner, Wisconsin – January 11, 2023

Reporter:SaynerStar Lake Barnstormers

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 8″ + in the woods, 2″ trail base

Date of Report: January 11, 2023

Area Report:

Trail conditions have improved with the reduction in traffic after the Christmas / New Year week.  We have been grooming nightly.  There is very little base to work with right now, but we are still able to keep the trails mostly flat.  Everyone I’ve talked with over the past week or so has been very happy with riding conditions.

The snow we are currently working with has been groomed and regroomed multiple times over, so there is no “stick” left in it.  It takes very little traffic to blow the loose snow out of ruts and create a bumpier ride.  We need some new heavy wet snow to remedy this.  The forecast for the next week does not appear to be bringing us any white gold, but we’ll keep our fingers crossed!!

This coming weekend is the 22nd Vintage World Championship Snowmobile Races in Eagle River.  It’s also MLK weekend, so you can expect to see very heavy traffic.  We should still be able to maintain good riding conditions, but please be aware that corners will be very icy.  Please be extra cautious when approaching corners!

TRAIL CLOSURE NOTICE:  Due to ongoing logging operations, the Barnstormer’s trail #51 is CLOSED between TIN 344 and 353!  DO NOT RIDE THIS SECTION OF TRAIL!
