Trail Report – : Lake Gogebic | Bergland, Michigan – January 16, 2023

Reporter:AJ’s Walleye Lodge

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: Good

Date of Report: January 16, 2023

Area Report:

We have been experiencing lots of traffic in the Lake Gogebic Area as we are one of the only places with good snow and riding conditions!   Despite the traffic, groomers have been consistently able to get out and keep everything groomed daily and nightly.   Today we have a wintry mix of rain & snow coming down with temps in the low 30’s forecasted for both today and tomorrow.   Groomers will be pulled off tonight and tomorrow night and are recommending and requesting that riders stay off the trails for the next two days in order to help preserve our trail base.  After Tuesday, things look up as temps are forecasted to drop into the low 20’ where they look to remain for the next several days.  Snow is forecasted for Wednesday night; 4+ inches for Thursday;  and then daily snow starting on Sunday and throughout the following week.   This mild warmup with the wintry mix will really help out the base once the temps drop Tuesday night and with the snow that is forecasted mid-end of the week, our trails should be in excellent shape.    However, with the warmer temps in the early part of the week, it could bring about some hazard and extreme caution should be used at all times!

All trails in the Lake Gogebic Area are reported to be in ok condition;

  • 8 West: there are a couple of open water spots and may open even further with the warmer temps. Culverts were put in but may not be helpful with the weather conditions.  Use Extremem caution.
  • 8 East: good condition.
  • 102 – very good condition as groomers were able to get out early this morning and get it packed down before the rain.
  • 1 North: good condition – some thin spots on the North Portion
  • 1 South reroute: trail is holding up well and getting better with each pass; watch for open water spots.
  • 13 North: ok to good condition
  • Trail 100 and 13 South:– keep an out for pottential water and potential water holes opening up

Stay off the trails for the next couple of days – and as always please use common sense and caution.   Always ride to the right, and anticipate that there could be a hazard around the next corner and just be safe.

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 6-10″

Date of Report: January 16, 2023

Area Report:

Good News, Bad News:

Bad News- we are getting freezing drizzle right now, temps are 32 right now.

Good News- No sun to damage the trails. Most trails were groomed last night. It was a sugar consistancy. So, once the corners were pulled back in, it did pan out nice. Being a Monday, there is no sled traffic. Adding some moisture to the snow might help if the temps drop to refreeze the base. There is snow in the forcast for this evening into Tuesday. Then more snow Thursday into Friday. Hopefully it is enough to work with on the trails for the upcoming Derby Weekend.

News and Reports:

We have a spot that sleds are riding off trail. This is on Trail 3 where sleds are going past a barrier and caution tape to ride on the ATV trail. We don’t have permissions for snowmobiling on this private land. Please stay on the trail.

If you find a condition that you need to report to the Conover Sno-Buddies like a down tree, water on the trail, etc, either message us on Facebook, use the contact page on our website, or even notify a local establishment. They know how to get a hold of us to fix the issue.

  • A reminder to ride between the orange blazers. Along Hwy K West, there were several 100 trees removed this summer to place new electric poles. Most of the stumps are still there. If you were to hit one, it could ruin your trip quickly. Ride Right ➡️ Ride Safe.
  • To see where the Groomer is at, check out  Groomer Tracker  Half the cost of the app comes back to Conover Sno-Buddies to support grooming operations.

Area Report:

Trail conditions haven’t changed much over the past  around here.  We have a great base.. but are in need of more new snow.  Trails are covered with minimal snow cover… we had sleds here over the weekend… and they all said some of the trails were good.. some were bumpy and some ice in the corners… but all are rideable. Hopefully the forecast is right this week… as there is snow in the forecast for Tuesday night… more coming in on Wednesday night into Thursday.  Stay tuned and we’ll keep you posted on the trail conditions as they change.

Happy Trails!

EAGLE RIVER TRAILS
All conditions
Sleet this AM

Best Riding is still North & East.  There could be deterioration with the sleet most of the day followed by SNOW after dark.  No totals available. No Evil Sun. The work done in December did pay off.   The ice base is still holding on most of the trails.  Still SNOW cover especially North & East. Trail 10/13 heading out of Eagle River is a good ride.  Snirt through town. After crossing the Wisconsin River Bridge trail section the 2 trails split.   Trail 13 heading aka the Bauers is a good choice.  Trail 17N that splits off of Trail 10/13 & head north on the east side of Hwy 45N is another choice.  A bit thin in a short section with snirt just before the Trail 3N aka Manske Swamp.  What the trails do need is fresh new SNOW.

As for east it Trail 10E.  Heading south to split of 10E & Trail Alt 13S.  10E & heading to  Three Lakes OR Alt 13S to Three Lakes. As of late last night SNOW covered.   Sleet may change conditions.

As for west areas of snirt near town & near the connect with St. Germain.

According to the Groomer Tracking System App nearly full grooming.  Only trails not groomed overnight into this morning are 10W & 7 headed toward Sayner & the Uncle Kent trail that comes out at Hwy G north & west of Eagle River.

Eagle & Catfish Lake trails are open & marked & still safe.  Expect very slippery riding & some surface slush from melted SNOW.  Always stay by the orange reflective barrels to be safe.

Last, off trail riding is a big problem.   PLEASE STAY ON THE TRAIL.
