Trail Report – : Iron County, Michigan – February 22, 2023

Reporter:Colleen

Trail Conditions: Poor

Snow Cover: 4 to 6 inches

Date of Report: February 22, 2023

Area Report:

Just to give everyone out there an updated report this week.  Trails currently are in poor condition until the snow comes tonight and into tomorrow.  WE did receive a couple of inches of snow over the past couple of days.. but we need the big snowfall everyone is hoping for tomorrow.  Groomers will not be able to begin grooming until we have at least additional 8 -12 inches of snow.  All of which they are forecasting for with tomorrows storm.  Please be patient and always check the trail reports and forecast before you head out on the trails.  We have an awesome ice base.. but very little fresh snow on top of that ice base.

This report will be updated tomorrow late afternoon or evening if you follow it.  Club groomers and operators will be back on the trails once there is enough snow to groom and it is safe again. We do have the cold weather back which will be a plus once we get through the storm.  Stay tuned!!

Trail Report – : Phelps, Wisconsin – February 22, 2023

Reporter:Phelps Snowmobile Club

Trail Conditions: Poor

Snow Cover: 4″-8″

Date of Report: February 22, 2023

Area Report:

Well, thanks to all of you who were doing the snow Dance.  Here i Phelps we picked up around 3″ on Monday night and around 1″ last night.  The big snow starts today!  8″-12″+ are forecasted!  This should make for a great weekend of riding here in Phelps.  It may take some time for the groomers to get all the trails into shape so be patiant.  Also use caution on the trails.  The snow we are to get is very fluffy with little moisture.  What that means is that it won’t pack very good.  Mix that with the solid ice base , corners and hills may be very slick.  I hope to have a better update as the week plays out.  Check back often for updates.  Please, “Ride Right”!  Stay to the right, stay on the trail, ride with-in your limatations, watch your speed and don’t drink and drive.  We all want you to have a safe and enjoyable time on the trails.

Trail Report – : Walworth County, Wisconsin – February 21, 2023

Reporter:Ryan Strand

Trail Conditions: Closed

Snow Cover: 0

Date of Report: February 21, 2023

Area Report:

And we start over again! We are in winter storm watch for tomorrow and Thursday. However it looks like we may be right on the southern edge of this storm. We will have to see if there are any last minute changes. Sounds like a storm shift just 50miles or so south could put us on some big snow totals. For now it looks like icy mess with a couple inches of snow. We will see! Trails are closed as we have nothing left from last weeks storm, except snow banks and drifts. Stay tuned for updates.

Ashland County trails remain in FAIR condition. Be prepared for icy corners, hills and intersections. There may even be some bare spots. Please slow down, stay right, and be prepared for changing snow conditions.  Logging will be taking place February 10th for 2 weeks on Trail 8 from Parker Rd to White Bass Road.  Please use caution and ride safe.  Only 200 feet of trail will be dozed on each side.  Detour has been posted on Trail 12.  Be aware of more traffic in that area due to logging in progress.  Area affectied is by Agenda Rd and Blueberry Rd.  Enjoy your ride and stay safe!

Snowmobile Information:

Please stay on the trail.  A lot of Ashland County snowmobile trails are on farmers land, please be respectful so we don’t lose our easement to their property.

Snowmobiles may not be modified, or operated, to amplify or otherwise increase the total vehicle noise above the originally manufactured snowmobile noise level.

As always please follow the snowmobile trail rules and regulations.  As always operate with everyone’s safety in mind and report any hazardous trail issues that are observed to the Ashland County Sheriff’s Department (715-682-7023 opt 1) so that it can be forwarded to the appropriate service.

The Tri-County Corridor is open from Superior to Ashland. There are still several areas on the eastern end that require attention but all known hazards have been identified and marked. Use caution when approaching ribbons, barricades, and cones.

Important reminders: There is no snowmobiling allowed from Ashland to Bad River/Odanah as snowmobiling is not permitted on reservation land.  However, snowmobiling is allowed from Bad River east to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Trail Report – : Sayner, Wisconsin – February 21, 2023

Reporter:SaynerStar Lake Barnstormers

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: Getting better

Date of Report: February 21, 2023

Area Report:

Yesterday, we received round 1 of a three part snow event.  Sayner received about 4″ so far.  This first round was very dry & fluffy.  It will not stick on the trails, so be aware that the base is still ice.  Hills and corners will continue to be difficult to navigate.  You may see a fresh coating of snow, but you’re still going to be riding on the ice.

Round 2, tonight, is supposed to be fairly minimal in accumulations.  The bigger system is coming Wednesday evening through Thursday.  Forecasts vary, but there is potential for an additional 4-8″ by end of Thursday.  Let’s hope this comes with some moisture in it!  Another 8″ of fluff won’t really improve conditions.

At this point, the Barnstormers are planning to resume grooming operations Thursday night.

Once again, we need to emphasize, STAY ON THE TRAIL!  Two of our neighboring clubs have had to close nearly 20 miles of trails due to riders being disrespectful by trespassing on private property.  The land owners have had enough and have forced trail closures.

TRAIL CLOSURE NOTICE:  Due to ongoing logging operations, the Barnstormer’s trail #51 is CLOSED between TIN 344 and 353!  DO NOT RIDE THIS SECTION OF TRAIL!

Area Report:

Hello Riders!

Many are curious as to conditions after the busy holiday weekend.   As you know, we have snow on the trails, but it was a hard and icy weekend.  Lakes are still quite icy, so your carbides and ice scratchers are getting a workout.  There is snow in the forecast this week! We are holding off on a full trail report until after the snow shows up, as some groomers are holding off until we get additional snow, to not damage the equipment. Stay tuned this week for additional updates.
