There is a solar farm being constructed in the county. The boundaries are as follows.
Cty road KR to the North, 144 Ave to the East, Highway 142 to the South.
Highway 45 to the West…..There are some area west of Highway 45 that may be affected. The trails are marked through this area and it is imperative that snowmobiles stay on trails.

All trails in Conover were groomed last night, including the cemetery trail. Looks like Trail Boss Chad went into the cemetery marsh area and pushed some more snow into it. Then groomed it late last night. With the colder temps, this should freeze this up good now. Along with the colder temps coming for the next week, remember to dress in layers, and bring some extra supplies like hot packs to keep warm. If you have to ride alone, let someone know your planned route.
Trail conditions are excellent in the morning, but with all the sled traffic, can deterioroate quicly. They will still be in good condition, but corners may be pushed up and icy underneath.
Unfortunately, there has been a couple fatal snowmobile accidents in the past week. Please remember to slow down. The corner ahead maybe pushed out and is glare ice underneath. And when crossing a road or highway, always look both ways after stopping. Just because the first 2-3 sleds in front of you crossed, doesn’t mean it is clear for you to cross. Lets all enjoy the ride, to ride another day.
News and Reports:
We have a spot that sleds are riding off trail. This is on Trail 3 where sleds are going past a barrier and caution tape to ride on the ATV trail. We don’t have permissions for snowmobiling on this private land. Please stay on the trail.
If you find a condition that you need to report to the Conover Sno-Buddies like a down tree, water on the trail, etc, either message us on Facebook, use the contact page on our website, or even notify a local establishment. They know how to get a hold of us to fix the issue.
Snowmobile Information:
January 28th – 1pm-4pm – Chilli and Soup Cook-off at Wild Turkey. Entreries must be there by 12:45pm. Bring a crook pot full of your favorite recipe. Or stop by and be a judge on entreries.
Our annual Poker Run starts December 24th and ends on March 4th. You can pick up game cards to be stamped at several locations in Conover, Eagle River, Phelps, and Land O Lakes. Draw party is March 4th. No need to be present to win.

Good to Excellent
Are you riding? Trails are fantastic! Lots of traffic so what is Excellent in the morning will downgrade to Good by evening. With the high traffic there is full complete grooming every night. Lake Effect Snow yesterday. Inch +-
Temps took a drop over night. There was a high of 24 yesterday & today the high is 12. From today through next Friday the temps will be in the low teens or single digits during the day & below zero at night.
Yesterday morning rode to the Lac du Flambeau Northern Hornshoe groomer barn to help with an MS Snowmobile Ride lunch. Left at 7:30am from 6 miles east of Eagle River on Trail 10E heading to town. Took 10W/13N “the grade”. Headed west on 70W/13 to intersection of 7S/13S. Then right onto 7S aka “paintball trail”. Where 7S comes out on Hwy H rode Sugar Camp Trails heading west on Trail 15 all the way to St. Germain trails. Part of Trail 15 runs as a combo with Trail 70A. Dropped down on Trail 70A to 70B to 70C which is in New Tom SnoFleas country. Then back to 70W to Woodruff in Cross Country Cruiser country. Connecting to 17N. Crossing at Hwy 51 to Trail 10/17 “the grade”along Hwy 47 too Cty H to the groomer barn. Rode same way back. 110 miles total. In the morning EXCELLENT trails with exception of through town trail in Woodruff & a short section west of Woodruff before entering Lac du Flambeau trails. Late afternoon return heavy traffic down graded trails to FAIR to GOOD west to Trail 15 in St. Germain. From there GOOD all the way back to & through Eagle River. There are some icy corners & road crossings.
Eagle & Catfish Lake trails still have drifts & there was surface slush yesterday off the marked trail. With the temps dropping surface slush should be frozen. Please stay by the orange reflective barrels. Remember not all lakes are safe.
NOTE: Off of Trail 70W (aka Wood Duck Lane) after entering St. Germain is a trail locals call “The Goat” trail. It is a Club Trail that starts at TIN 287 to TIN 288 that is CLOSED. It is clearly marked as CLOSED with fencing & signs. Please do not ride through this area from either direction. DO NOT RIDE ON HWY 70 as this is not legal.
On snowmobile designated road routes need to follow the speed limit set for the road for all vehicles.
Last, off trail riding is a big problem. PLEASE STAY ON THE TRAIL & Take the Snowmobilers Pledge.

I have not had a chance to go on patrol today, but the MS riders we had over to Hornshoe command for lunch all reported good to excellent trail conditions. I plowed 2-3″ of fresh snow last night and I have another 2″ from this morning. Looks like a good weekend. Watch the corners in the Raven Lake area, and thin snow on the grade in the Powell marsh. May have some bumps south of Wishow Lake on 17 just before the bridge as the snow is deep there so bumps come and go. A good grooming, and arctic temps the next couple of days should set us up well. Some slush showing up here and there on lakes and Fence is not going to be marked this year. Advise caution if you venture out on Fence. Ride safe and have fun. Mark
