Early Riding – Frozen Ice Base
MERRY CHRISTMAS

Still too warm.  Trails in Sno-Eagles Country are basically hard ice base.  East still some loose SNOW but thing.  Ice base in town.  Wide open areas are seeing breakdown.  What we need is SNOW!  Best bet is head up to NORTHERN VILAS COUNTY – Especially Northwest corner.

Groomer Tracking System app shows no panning or grooming.  Effort to hold the base.

Vilas County & the Vilas County Snowmobile Alliance voted to use donated safety funds for beacon lighting.  It will be installed at the entrance/exit of lakes.  They will flash red, green & white.  This should help riders find the exit off the lake.  Right click on the announcement to enlarge.

Trail Report – : Lake Gogebic | Bergland, Michigan – December 25, 2025

Reporter:AJ’s Walleye Lodge

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 8+ inches

Date of Report: December 25, 2025

Area Report:

Merry Christmas from the Lake Gogebic Area!   Santa did not bring us snow for Christmas morning, but we are forecast to start getting hit with snow by the end of the weekend!   Temps today and tomorrow are going to be above freezing during the day – but drop down in the evening with 10+” of snow forecasted by the New Year!

Bergland groomers reported that they will be running on a lighter grooming schedule for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day so everyone can enjoy time with family and friends.

This is their report as of December 23rd:

  • Trail 8W to Wakefield, 8E to Ewen, 1N to White Pine, and Trail 102 were all groomed and covered. The entire section of Trail 13 was completed last night as well.

The crew got a late-afternoon start when temperatures were around 28°, which helped tremendously. By mid-evening, temperatures dropped into the 19°–21° range and trails began setting up nicely.

All things considered—and given what it took to get these trails opened—we’re in pretty good shape.

Thank you all for the continued support, and we wish everyone a very Merry Christmas!

We are going to enjoy our Christmas and get ready to rock into the New Year – where you can celebrate New Years twice in two time zones on Lake Gogebic!   Fireworks will be on the North Shore at AJ’s in the Eastern Time Zone!

Trail Report – : Conover, Wisconsin – December 23, 2025

Reporter:snobuddies

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: 4-6”

Date of Report: December 23, 2025

Area Report:

Our trails were lightly groomed on Sunday night  It was more of checking the system for any problem areas. North Twin Lake was marked today. There is a large ice heave out in the middle of the lake. Use caution crossing it until it settles down. I haven’t heard if any other lakes have been marked yet.

This is going to be early season riding with a lot of thin areas of snow. Swamps have been packed down, but are thin for snow coverage. With all the down trees across the whole county, you will find several areas with sticks and mulch on the trails. All the clubs have spent several days to weeks cleaning up to get to this point.

Please stay on the trails, riding off the trail to get fresh snow is trespassing and what leads to us loosing trails on private property.

If lakes aren’t marked with barrels, please stay off till they are marked. Don’t stray away from barrels on marked lakes.

Ride Right, Ride Safe

Trail Report – : Boulder Junction, Wisconsin – December 22, 2025

Reporter:boulderwi

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 6-10″

Date of Report: December 22, 2025

Area Report:

At 8:00 am it’s 12 degrees out with cloudy skies and gradually warming up to 32 degrees today.
Well, our trails held up surprisingly well over opening weekend! The cold temps helped
preserve our thin base and the trails were smooth with minimal bumps and bare spots.
Our groomers have been out and groomed 15N/6E late Saturday night, 8E, 8W, and 2W last
night, and 15S early this morning to be ready for mid-week riders. Our trails are in very good
condition right now.
We have highs in the low 30’s predicted for all week with no new snow until Friday. With the
warmer temps, get out early to enjoy the best riding as this warm-up and sled traffic will wear
down our base and we will start seeing some bare spots along the way.
Please ride safe and be aware of some remaining trail debris that will go away with more snow.
Look for an updated holiday trail report on Friday, 12/26!

Trail Report – : Keweenaw Peninsula / Houghton-Hancock, South Range, Copper Harbor, Michigan – December 21, 2025

Reporter:Stretch

Trail Conditions: Open

Snow Cover: 20 inches

Date of Report: December 21, 2025

Area Report:

We have received a little over 70 inches of snow through out most of the Keweenaw area. The groomers have been out and most of our trails are being hit at least a couple times a week. It’s still like early season riding in the areas that haven’t received as much snow. We’re coming into Christmas week so ride right and ride safe.

Trail Report – : Sayner, Wisconsin – December 21, 2025

Reporter:SaynerStar Lake Barnstormers

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: Minimal

Date of Report: December 21, 2025

Area Report:

It’s a good thing we didn’t listen to all the naysayers that said we opened too early and that the trails would be trashed after one day!

Every sledder I spoke to over the weekend talked about how good the trails were!  My wife & I road yesterday & hit trails in Sayner, Star Lake, Conover, Phelps & Land O’ Lakes.  Even though it’s a very thin base, it was all fairly flat and so much fun!  We even saw Santa out on his Scorpion.  I heard the same reports from people who rode in the St. Germain, Boulder Junction and Presque Isle sytems.

Yes, we do need more snow, for sure.  Without it, we’ll begin to see more icy conditions as traffic increases over the holiday week.  For now, don’t hesitate to go out and enjoy what we have.

The Barnstormers will be grooming on a very limited basis until we get more snow.  Excessive grooming right now will do more damage than good.  Start doing your snow dances!!

Ride RIght & Ride Safe!

Mark your calendars for these upcoming Barnstormer events:

Wednesday, December 31 – Breakfast at Sayner Pub from 9:00 – Noon.  Blessing of the sleds at 12:30 under the arch.

Saturday, January 10 – Brats on the trail at TIN #217 from 10:00 – 4:00.

Saturday, January 17 – Breakfast at Stillwaters from 8:00 – 11:00.

Saturday, February 7 – Chili dump at The Murm from 2:00 – 5:00.

Sunday, February 15 – Pizza fundraiser at Hillside Tavern from 4:00 – 8:00.
