Trail Report – : Sayner, Wisconsin – January 30, 2023

Reporter:SaynerStar Lake Barnstormers

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 8″ +

Date of Report: January 30, 2023

Area Report:

The Barnstormer trails have held up very well despite the heavy traffic and lack of good snow.  With the exception of tonight, January 30, we are grooming nightly.  With the sub-zero temps, we are not sending our drivers out tonight.  Grooming will start up again tomorrow night.

Until we get significant snow, the trail base will remain very thin and the corners will be icy.  The lack of snow is helping to keep the trails flat, but the icy base makes safety a big concern.

Sometimes we may sound like a broken record when we continue to preach about slowing down.  There have been FOUR SNOWMOBILE FATALITIES in the area just in the past four days!  Two left the trail and hit trees, one lost control and hit a fencepost after passing another sled on the trail, and one was hit by a vehicle when trying to cross a highway.  We cannot stress this enough:  SLOW DOWN AND BE ATTENTIVE!

Another situation that has been getting worse is the off-trail riding.  Hey, I get it, it’s fun.  But, it’s also illegal, it’s criminal trespassing, and it’s disrespectful.  One of our neighboring clubs is on the verge of losing a main corridor trail because of this nonsense.  These aren’t idle threats, it’s really happening.  Stay on the trail, or stay home.

TRAIL CLOSURE NOTICE:  Due to ongoing logging operations, the Barnstormer’s trail #51 is CLOSED between TIN 344 and 353!  DO NOT RIDE THIS SECTION OF TRAIL!

Mark your calendars for the following Barnstormer Fundraising Events!

Saturday, February 4, 2023:  Annual Chili Dump – Join us at Murmuring Waters from 2:00 – 5:00 for our Annual Chili Dump.

Sunday, February 19, 2023:  Pizza Fundraiser – Join us at The Hillside Tavern and Grill from 4:00 – 8:00 for our Pizza Fundraiser!

Boulder Junction Snowmobile Club Trail Report – Monday, 1/30/2023
At 8:00 a.m. it’s -9 degrees out with sunny skies.

We groomed 15N and 6E last night and 8E, 11, and 15S early this morning. 2W and 8W will be groomed this afternoon. This morning our driver grooming 15S reported the trail as being very rough and did his best to smooth it out.

We have seen moderate to heavy traffic in the area. Last week we had 2,961 sleds go past our trail counter with a season total of 12,002.

And now I have some sad news. Since last Thursday, we have had 4 snowmobile fatalities in our surrounding area. The latest being yesterday on trail 17 in Arbor Vitae. Please slow down and always ride right for your safety and others approaching you.

And another word of caution. There have been numerous reports of off trail riding on state and private property adjacent to our area trails. This has to stop or else we may lose these trails.

Look for an updated report on Wednesday, February 1.

EAGLE RIVER TRAILS
Good to Excellent

Trails are fantastic!   There was a ton of traffic over the weekend.  Will quite down a little starting today.  Nearly a full grooming session overnight.   Only trails not groomed are trails west. Which are 70W to St. Germain connect near Wood Duck Lane; 13S that splits from 70W & heads south to Sugar Camp connect and 7S aka Paintball Field that splits from 13S & heads west to connect with Sugar Camp at Cty Hwy H.   Plus Alt 13S to Three Lakes connect & Trail 1N that takes you to Eagle Lake.  Riding will be EXCELLENT!

Rode Friday & conditions were Excellent in the morning & Good by late afternoon.  Didn’t ride Saturday or Sunday very high traffic.

Under the loose snow, which makes the trails “fast”, there is ice & have noticed some icy corners.  So please slow down.  A bit of preaching this morning.  Since January 1, Vilas county has experienced 3 fatalities.  4 in Oneida county. Please slow down & RIDE RIGHT.

Trail 10E has a one-way section that starts at Taylor Lake Rd.  When riding & head east past the ERRA Sports Arena you ride on the south side of Hwy 70E.  This goes all the way to the gas station.  When riding & heading west from the gas station you ride on the north side of Hwy 70E.  All road crossings have signs that say DO NOT ENTER – if you are going the wrong way.  Please be aware & do not go the wrong way on these trails.

Going to be cold the next few days.  Most nights below zero.  If you are riding here are some tips:

  • Tell someone where you are riding
  • Dress in layers
  • Stop more frequently & drink non alcoholic beverages
  • Take cell phone & store in an inner layer pocket

Eagle & Catfish Lake trails still have drifts & there was surface slush yesterday off the marked trail. With the temps dropping surface slush should be frozen.  Please stay by the orange reflective barrels.  Remember not all lakes are safe.

NOTE: Off of Trail 70W after entering St. Germain is a trail locals call “The Goat” trail.  It is a Club Trail that starts at TIN 287 to TIN 288 that is CLOSED.  It is clearly marked as CLOSED with fencing & signs.  Please do not ride through this area from either direction. DO NOT RIDE ON HWY 70 as this is not legal.

Last, off trail riding is a big problem.  PLEASE STAY ON THE TRAIL & Take the Snowmobilers Pledge.

Keep DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE!!  THINK COLD!

Be Safe & See ya on the trails!

Trail Report – : Rhinelander, Wisconsin – January 30, 2023

Reporter:Hodag SnoTrails

Trail Conditions: Excellent

Snow Cover: good base with snowcover

Date of Report: January 30, 2023

Area Report:

With the base that was developed and the fresh snow from last week, the trails are in great shape. There is enough snow for the groomers to work with.  Sled traffic appeared to be down some this weekend.  With the cold snap forecasted early this week, the trail base should remain solid for quite some time.

The groomer was able to get through the wet area north of Pelican Lake for the first time with the tractor this weekend.  This should drastically improve the trail conditions the rest of the season.   With all the traffic, stay right and be alert.

Come on out and enjoy the trails.  They are in the best shape of the season and look to stay that way.

Stay close to the barrels when crossing lakes.

Trail Report – : Conover, Wisconsin – January 29, 2023

Reporter:snobuddies

Trail Conditions: Excellent

Snow Cover: 10-16″

Date of Report: January 29, 2023

Area Report:

All trails were groomed in Conover, including spurs and the Cemetery trail. With the colder temps now, that should freeze up nice. As usual, the trails are excellent in the morning, and with the high traffic, corners get blown out. The base under is ice, so be carefull.

Had a great time at the Chili cook off hosted by Wild Turkey yesterday. Everyone was saying the trails were holding up well with all the traffic.

With the colder temps this week, we like to remind you to dress in layers, carry hand warmers, a charged cell phone, and if riding alone, let someone know where you are going.

News and Reports:

We have a spot that sleds are riding off trail. This is on Trail 3 where sleds are going past a barrier and caution tape to ride on the ATV trail. We don’t have permissions for snowmobiling on this private land. Please stay on the trail.

If you find a condition that you need to report to the Conover Sno-Buddies like a down tree, water on the trail, etc, either message us on Facebook, use the contact page on our website, or even notify a local establishment. They know how to get a hold of us to fix the issue.

  • A reminder to ride between the orange blazers. Along Hwy K West, there were several 100 trees removed this summer to place new electric poles. Most of the stumps are still there. If you were to hit one, it could ruin your trip quickly. Ride Right ➡️ Ride Safe.
  • To see where the Groomer is at, check out  Groomer Tracker  Half the cost of the app comes back to Conover Sno-Buddies to support grooming operations.
