Trail Report: Oconto County, Wisconsin – February 3, 2017

Trail Conditions: Excellent

Snow Cover: 5-9

Date of Report: February 3, 2017

Area Report:

Townsend – Red Arrow Snowmobile – ATV Club –  Brrrrrrrrrrr!! it’s -3 degrees this morning in beautiful downtown Townsend, and the trails are in VERY GOOD RIDING CONDITION. They look like they froze down nicely. Just remember that under that fresh snow is some ice, so be careful.

Lakewood – Paul Bunyan Snowmobile Club – The trails are groomed and are in very good to excellent condition. We will be grooming all weekend long. Have fun on the trails but watch out for ice on the corners.

Bagley and Brazeau – Joyriders Trails -Trails are back open on Feb 1st at 7:00am.  They are in good condition but there is a problem on the Butler Springs trail.  Logging has been taking place on Butler Springs Rd and will continue for  the next few weeks.  The loggers removed most of the snow on the trail.   Since it has snowed the groomer drivers have been out on this trail trying to re-groom it.  We don’t know if the loggers will come back and take off the new snow that has recently fallen.  If you are familiar with the ATV trail that runs next to the snowmobile trail, through Butler Springs, you, can use this trail.  If we continue to have a problem with keeping it groomed, we plan to start grooming the ATV trail.  Also we have problems grooming  in other areas with thin ice.  On the Pipeline and a few other areas the ice is to thin for the groomer to groom but safe for snowmobiles to ride.

Gillett Sno ATV Riders – Trails are in very good condition. Groomers were out Tuesday and groomed again today.  2-3 inches of snow expected for Saturday.  Should be great trail riding for a while.

Chute Pond Snowmobile Club – Chute Pond trails are open, and grooming on a regular basis. Our trails are in good condition, with an icy base- which with normal traffic gets exposed in and around the corners.

Please be aware that the groomers may be out day and night as needed to keep the trails in shape. Please watch out for the groomers, and give them space when you see them.

Expect a few rough and bare spots, possibly some standing water and slushy spots, and probable icy areas, especially near the corners. Please ride with caution- and stay on the marked trails. Enjoy your ride.

Oconto Falls – Sno Jokers Trails –  Trails are OPEN.

Lena Snow Drifters – Trails are CLOSED.
Chase Sno-Chasers – Trails are CLOSED.

Trail Report: Forest County, Wisconsin – February 3, 2017

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 4-6 inches

Date of Report: February 3, 2017

Area Report:

Trails are in GOOD to VERY GOOD condition.  The snow from early in the week with the cold temps later in the week have help the clubs to rebuild the base after the warm up.  Still plenty of riding to do this winter so load up the trailer and head to Forest County.

Trail conditions will vary throughout the county so please ride safely and responsibly.  Use caution when riding on lakes or frozen water as ice conditions can vary greatly.

The clubs that maintain the Forest County Trail System are made up of volunteers who work very hard to provide the best trails possible.  Please respect them while on the trail and allow them to do their job. If you come across the groomer, please give them some extra room.  It is a lot easier to move a sled off the trail than 40 feet of tractor and drag.

Remember, TRAILS ARE GROOMED DAY AND NIGHT.

Thank you for riding Forest County Trails, Snowmobiling’s best kept secret.

Trail Report: Boulder Junction, Wisconsin – February 3, 2017

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 8-10

Date of Report: February 3, 2017

Area Report:

Trail report for February 3 2017-Trails are good to very good.  With the continued cold temps below freezing our base has stayed intact. We have had a few inches of snow over the last couple of days and our groomers have been able to lay out a nice trail. We still have icy corners and low snow conditions in our logging areas. Our Groomers will be out on full schedule all weekend. We are still down to a bare minimum of snow on the trails to groom but are expecting a few inches Saturday and a new snow storm system coming in Monday with several inches expected. This will really help out. If we get the new snow our trail system will be in really great shape. We need snow and cold weather!!!   Please be careful out there! Remember be safe, ride right, and enjoy the ride.

BJSC President

Trails Very Good Condition

Start of the Weekend! And new snow Sunday, Monday & Tuesday with a schiff Wednesday have brought the trails to Very Good Condition.  There does not look to be any problems to report anywhere.  Might be a few road trails that are thin but most have a snow covering along side.  Even the snirt has pretty much gone away.  Some at a few crossing right in town. But “the grade” Trail 13 is in great shape!

Looks like all trails were groomed last night. Gates & fencing are down & the WI River Bridge section of Trail 10W/13N is OPEN again.  It might be icy because it was all water on top last week.

Catfish Lake Loop & Eagle Lake Trails are open & safe by the orange reflective barrels. No surface slush because no evil sun.  If you ride past a ice fisherman remember to slow way down. Also remember there is a 55 miles speed limit dusk to dawn even on the lakes.

Riding with friends from Plymouth & Elkhart this Saturday & Sunday.  So will let you know what I see out.

Keep Doin’ The Snow Dance!  It’s Time To Ride!!!

See Ya On The Trails!

Trail Report: Mercer, Wisconsin – February 2, 2017

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 10

Date of Report: February 2, 2017

Area Report:

Most of the trails are in great shape, we range from fair to very good. 6 to 8 inches of snow we be livin the dream. not a lot of snow in the forecast, but cold we have, should be this kind of riding For the next 2 – 3 weeks if the temps hold. we do seem to get about 3 – 5 inches of lake snow a week to keep us going. The flowage is rough in spots so beware. TRAIL  12 heading west of Lake Of The Falls to Swamp Creek Rd should be avoided. Over all it should be a good couple of weeks, the other clubs are reporting the same with some better riding to the south  east and north

Have fun & be safe    Thank you for all your support

Trail Report: Bayfield County, Wisconsin – February 2, 2017

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 6-12″

Date of Report: February 2, 2017

Area Report:

Trail conditions have improved with some fresh snow this week; however there are still many icy spots that require riders to use caution. Trail 4 East and West out of Mason and Trail 63 South out of Mason to Grand View remain CLOSED due to lack of Snow.

Northern Bayfield County:

The north east Groomer area received 3 to 6 inches of new snow this week and all our trails are in fair shape excluding the Washburn area which received less snow. We have been out grooming and everything should be groomed by Friday (2/3/17) excluding Trail 13 south of Washburn where the snow is marginal. There are Lots of icy spots so please use caution.

Trail 1 in the very Northwest corner of the County is getting groomed today (2/2/2017). Because of logging we are only going up to Greens Rd. until we get some more snow next week

Around Herbster Trails 40, 41, 19, 31 and part of 1 have been groomed and are all good except trail 1 into town which is a little rough but rideable. The rest of Trail 1 will get groomed today (2/2/2017).

Central Bayfield County:

After the initial 3 inches of fresh snow Iron River received another inch, possibly two the following day. Trails 22, 24, and 31 south of Iron River have been groomed and cleared of reported downed trees. Plenty of fresh snow on those trails with a moderate ice base underneath. Trail 4 from Hwy 2 crossing to Delta is rideable with lesser amounts closer to Delta which in turn creates icier conditions. The Tri County Corridor has been groomed from FR241 to Brule in Bayfield County’s jurisdiction with plenty of snow but with heavy ice base. Operations will continue until Friday afternoon on trails 21 and 31 along with south Port Wing and Herbster area.

Southern Bayfield County
Namakagon: Trails in the Namakagon area have all been groomed once as of last night. Plans are to make another round throughout the weekend. The trails have a few thin spots with some icy corners! Over all though the snow we got helped to rate them Fair to Good condition! We’ll be doing our best to get the most with what we have. Slow down and enjoy the ride. We’ve had a couple close calls with icy conditions and trees. Also remember that the Groomers are out when possible DAY or NIGHT!
Drummond: Trails 6, 7 and 63 have 4″ of new snow this week and are groomed and in good condition. The trail from Mason to Sanborn lacks sufficient for grooming as well as trail 4 towards Delta. Grooming will continue through the weekend.
Barnes: The Barnes area received 4-5” of snow, and grooming operations are back in progress.  All trails the Barnestormers groom have or will be completed by Thursday.  Grooming operations may continue into the weekend, please be aware of grooming equipment on the trail system. Trails are in fair to good condition but very icy, please ride with caution and ride safe. There is a 1 mile section of Trail 31 South that has been plowed to allow the road to freeze down for a future logging job, but there is still some snow on the trail and it is passable.

News and Reports:

The Apostle Islands Sled Dog Race is this weekend up in the Bayfield area Saturday and Sunday, February 4th and 5th. The race crosses a snowmobile trail and goes on a section of Jodi Road which is also a snowmobile trail. Please use caution and watch for dog sled teams if you are riding in this area this weekend.

Timber Sale Activity:

Trail 1 – South of Cornucopia – off Stage Rd. a sale has gone active on this section of trail so watch for caution signs and logging equipment.

Trail 31 – Northwest of the City of Washburn – near Lost Lake Rd. This sale is finishing up so there should be minimal activity.

Trail 31 – South of Barnes – A one mile section of Trail 31 South that has been plowed to allow the road to freeze down for a future logging job, but it is still passable.
