Trail Report – : Sayner, Wisconsin – March 1, 2023

Reporter:SaynerStar Lake Barnstormers

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 8″ +

Date of Report: March 1, 2023

Area Report:

We did get around 6″ of new snow on Monday.  It didn’t have a lot of moisture, but it was better than the real fluffy stuff we got last week.  Trails were grooming out nicely.  It’s still not sticking to trails as much as we’d like, so your skis will still be riding on ice, especially in the corners.

Yesterday brought us temps in the upper 30s with sunshine, so we did lose some snow cover.    There is another 2″ – 4″ forecast today and possibly turning to sleet before it’s over.  This could help improve trail conditions before the warmer temps & sun come back later in the week and into the weekend.

There were two more fatalities in northern WI over this past weekend.  Please be careful out there!  Approach every corner with the assumption that you’re going to meet another rider.  This season is soon coming to an end.  Let’s make sure every single rider gets to go home to their families.

EAGLE RIVER TRAILS
Trails Good but still very icy underneath

Trails are a mixed bag as the evil sun was out yesterday. The end of February into March brings days where the sun is out longer. Going to SNOW today cloudy most of the day. Forecast is for 2-4 inches.

Wasn’t able to ride yesterday.  Spoke to a couple that did ride yesterday.   Took Trail 10/13 south out of town riding Alt 13S to Three Lakes. In Three Lakes took TL 11 to TL 5 north which connects to the 9Mile trail that intersects with Eagle River 10 that heads west into Eagle River.  Reported Alt 13S was in “great shape”. 10 had some burn through from the sun.  That section is on the north side of the road.  Then rode through town on 10/13 heading north & picked up 17N to Phelps which they said was “in fabulous shape”!

Touch up grooming last night with the groomer leaving the barn on Trail 10W/13N heading north to the Trail 17N intersection.   Heading northeast on Trail 17N to Trail 1 that runs to Eagle Lake trail.

Please remember:

When you come upon a group of sleds in front of you on the trail.  Passing them can get you in trouble.   Last time out I saw several groups ride up to other groups.  The entire group passed the group they come upon.  Not a good idea.  By the time the last sled passes a sled could be coming from the other direction.

Remember as you ride & meet a groomer the equipment is NOT able to leave the trail due to it’s weight.  Pull over & stop.  Wait for direction from the driver.  Give ’em a thumbs up.  They groom so we can ride!

Eagle & Catfish Lake trails are still marked.  With the sun  surface slush will form on the deep SNOW.

Trail Report – : Conover, Wisconsin – February 28, 2023

Reporter:snobuddies

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 10-16″

Date of Report: February 28, 2023

Area Report:

We have skipped grooming Monday and Tuesday. We will be out Wednesday night as the night temps drop to help set the trails up. The 7″ of snow we got was little heavier than last big snow. And with the warmer temps and the sun out all day Tuesday, it added moisture to the snow to help pack it in.

Took a short ride around Conover today and the less traveled trails like the D loop from K West around to W Buckatabon Rd was good. Trail along K West had more traffic and beat down. Trail 13 north to Heartlake Rd wasn’t bad. A few spots were sun was hitting the trail took a hit. Cemetery Trail was great. Road crossings and road routes are pretty bare right now.

There is more snow in the forecast for Wednesday-1-2″ possible.

Snowmobile Information:

Ran 17 this afternoon to see how things laid down. Trail is “good” about 95%. 37 degree temp, considerable sled traffic, and sun, have worked the base. Several spots on 17 between Mattke Rd and F that were dirt before the snow have reflected through. The rest of 17 is pretty good running in the middle. Base is soft and getting compacted. See what grooming and colder temps do for us. 17 North of 5 was getting bumpy – but ok yet. Out in the Powell Marsh, the bridge is exposed, as is about 150 feet of grade on either side. Cloudy tomorrow and Thursday, high 27 tomorrow, but 31 Thursday. Partly sunny Friday and Saturday with high of 35 Friday, and 39 Saturday. Snow shows 2-5″ possible yet. Mark

Hello Riders!
Not a super comprehensive report but will just share an update. Yesterday early we had some freezing rain but by late morning it turned into big fat snow flakes. We received a couple of inches. There is more snow forecasted for tomorrow. Groomers were starting to go back out last night after temps dropped and the fresh snow. They will continue to run all week. It is beautiful out there and trails are going to be beautiful! Winter is NOT over!

Trail Report – : Iron County, Michigan – February 28, 2023

Reporter:Colleen

Trail Conditions: Excellent

Snow Cover: 12-15

Date of Report: February 28, 2023

Area Report:

We received another 7 or 8 inches of snow yesterday… sunshine today!  Possible snow again on Wednesday.  Trails are being groomed daily as long as conditions remain this good… plenty of snow for grooming right now.

Trails were busy this past weekend with all the new snow from Thursday…. this week and weekend look good for riding… but the days are getting longer and the temps will slowly continue to rise as we go through the month.

Please remember to STAY RIGHT when riding the trails.. slow down for the corners… someone else may be coming around at the same time… and hold the speed down just a bit.. there may be some riders with less experience on the same trails you are riding.  😉

Trails over all are in Very Good Condition.

Very Good – Trail #2, Trail #116, Trail #18, Trail #113,

Good Condition – Trail #107, Trail #16, Trail #111, Trail #15 S.

Trail 15 N. will remain closed for the season between Trail #2 & Trail #111

Again, we thank everyone who has come up this winter to ride our trails.. it was an odd winter with not a lot of snowfall until recently… but currently trails are pretty awesome in any direction you ride up here.  Again, we ask that you give the groomer operators enough room when you meet them.. being courteous goes a long way.

On behalf of all the business owners in Iron County and the Lodging Council we would like to “Thank” both snowmobile clubs and groomer operators for doing a wonderful job grooming this year again… especially considering the weather conditions we have had.  You all really make a difference in our community and to the riders on the trails.  Thank You!!

This report will be updated when conditions change!!

Happy and Safe Sledding Y’all!!

Just got MORE snow!!  We received 34+ inches of snow this past week!!!  Groomers in Ashland County are out working out the many drifts on the trails.  Once the trails are groomed they will AGAIN be in EXCELLENT condition.  Be prepared for icy corners, hills and intersections.  There is still ice underneath this fresh snow and snow drifts in areas so please BE CAREFUL!    Slow down, stay right, and be prepared for changing snow conditions.  Logging will be taking place February 10th for 2 weeks on Trail 8 from Parker Rd to White Bass Road.  Please use caution and ride safe.  Only 200 feet of trail will be dozed on each side.  Detour has been posted on Trail 12.  Be aware of more traffic in that area due to logging in progress.  Area affectied is by Agenda Rd and Blueberry Rd.  Enjoy your ride and stay safe!

Snowmobile Information:

Please stay on the trail.  A lot of Ashland County snowmobile trails are on farmers land, please be respectful so we don’t lose our easement to their property. Snowmobiles may not be modified, or operated, to amplify or otherwise increase the total vehicle noise above the originally manufactured snowmobile noise level.

As always please follow the snowmobile trail rules and regulations

SNO-EAGLES
EAGLE RIVER TRAILS
Trails Good but very icy underneath

While all the trails in Sno-Eagles Country, Eagle River are on average Good.  They are ice based & SNOW covered making them slippery or “fast”.  More new SNOW yesterday was wet & packy & looks to be 4+ inches on the trails this morning. Riding when it’s snowing is great.  Trails were SNOW filled on Trail 10E except under the tall pines where the SNOW can’t get through to the trail as well.  Be aware that road crews are out clearing SNOW.   Road crossings have high banks.  Plus the heavy SNOW has caused low hanging branches.   Very hard to see a head so SLOW DOWN.

As for temps in the 30’s so that will impact the SNOW & conditions.  Open areas will soften up & there will be burn through areas.   The end of February into March brings days where the sun is out longer. Next SNOW forecast for tomorrow, Wednesday. 1.5 inches forecast.

Touch up grooming last night with the groomer leaving the barn on Trail 10W/13N heading north to the Trail 17N intersection.   Heading northeast on Trail 17N to the Trail 3N aka Manske Swamp intersection & back.   Limited grooming until the temps drop.

Important info this morning:

When you come upon a group of sleds in front of you on the trail.  Passing them can get you in trouble.   Saw several groups meet other groups.

SNOW is moguled in sections so SLOW DOWN. Found this on most marked lakes in Vilas County. With the sun today surface slush will form.
