Trail Report – : Eagle River, Wisconsin – December 7, 2017

Reporter:Holly t

Trail Conditions: Closed

Snow Cover: 2-3 inches new “feathery” snow

Date of Report: December 7, 2017

Area Report:

Cold is here!  Plus some SNOW!

COLD has come to Sno-Eagles Country! High teens during the day & much colder at night. The freeze up of the wet swamps & boggy areas is underway. With that SNOW is also falling. Last night, Wednesday about 3 inches of very dry “feathery” snow fell.

The target date for opening of the Trails has moved to December 17 at the earliest. Keep in mind that this all depends on how well wet areas freeze up & the level of SNOW. With the opening could come some trails staying closed until safe.

Keep THINKING COLD!!!

Trail Report – : Sayner, Wisconsin – December 5, 2017

Reporter:SaynerStar Lake Barnstormers

Trail Conditions: Closed

Snow Cover:

Date of Report: December 5, 2017

Area Report:

The trails will not be opening on the 12th. First – there is not a sufficient amount of snow on the ground. Second – there are still 3 to 4 clubs’ systems that need to be inspected and pass. The inspection process has been hampered by wet & muddy conditions. What really hurt was a couple weeks of unseasonably warm temps. Yesterdays high was 50. The somewhat good news is that the temps dropped starting last night. Daytime temps are mostly supposed to stay down in the teens with the exception of this coming Sunday when it is forecasted to get up to 32. Then, right back down again. The Barnstormers do not have any swamps on our system but most of our fellow Vilas County clubs do. We badly need these sustained cold temps to freeze these swamps. I know everyone is anxious to hear that we have gotten some great snow. However, if we get too much snow before these swamps freeze; it will hinder and delay them from freezing.

Please stay tuned. I will update you on a new target opening date as soon as one has been determined. Pray first for cold temps. Then bring on the white gold!!!
