Area Report:

Trail report for February 23, 2018, Good condition. We got a few inches of snow last night so we should be able to go out and groom and lay out a nice trail. The trails are still very thin. We should be out grooming our trails all weekend. The corners can be very bare and icy and the active logging areas have very little snow. Logging equipment can be on the snowmobile trail at any time so use caution. If you see a groomer on the trail, please take all directions from the groomer. They are out there to make the trail better for you so give them a break. Remember to be safe, ride right, and enjoy the ride.

This report is dated Friday, February 23,2018.

All Lincoln County snowmobile trails are OPEN. The trails are being reported in GOOD – VERY GOOD condition.The Tomahawk are got 3-4 inches of snow last night. There still may be icy corners. Wooded trails are much better.

Please be aware of trail closed signs, stay on marked trails ONLY and respect private land. Use extreme caution and expect early season riding conditions throughout the trail system.

Trails designated as winter ATV trails in these areas are open for ATV use. All trails are closed for ATV use when the temperature is above 28 degrees F.

Oneida County Funded Snowmobile Trail System (as administered by the Oneida County Forestry, Land, & Recreation Department)are OPEN for the 2017-2018 winter season. The trails are in GOOD – VERY GOOD condition. There still may be icy corners. Wooded trails are much better.

As always, the Oneida County Forestry, Land, & Recreation Department recommends staying on clearly marked trails. Always exercise caution when riding a snowmobile. The trails can be in rough, early season condition. Snowmobilers are urged to stay on marked trails.

6 inches of light, fluffy snow last night and this morning. Expect 4-5 more Saturday night. With mild temperatures this is the perfect opportunity to get up here and sled all weekend

We are grooming nightly. Leo / Byron were grooming last night/this morning. In the middle of a 3-6″ snowstorm. Logging operations west of the intersection of Trail 14 & Cty. W….requires attention navigating. Rainbow Creek culvert on 11(Hwy. O) tricky when crossing. When exiting to the U.P. on 11,… follow the new signs.

Here are your current conditions:
Fresh snow alert!!! 3″ of snow last night will make for a excellent weekend of riding. Trails will be back in tip top shape after the groomers do their work. You may find a icy corner or two. Another snow stop is in the forecast for Saturday night. Then, warmer temps for late next week. Get out and ride now before it’s gone.

Don’t forget about our Gun And meat raffle this weekend at Bonnie’s Lakeside.

Lakes are all marked, please stay close to barrels.

TRAILS FAIR – GOOD
Plenty of new SNOW

We Got SNOW in Eagle River! Looks like 5-6 inches as I look outside 6 miles east of Eagle River! With 4-5 inches in Eagle River. Still SNOWING lightly. What a nice surprise! This is one of those Ride It When We Got events. Forecast for overcast all weekend with temps in low 30’s.

Trails groomed last night are the in town trails, 10W/13N/7S, 70W/13S, 17S, 7N aka Paintball Field, 3S, parts of 10E. Keep in mind that with the SNOW totals over night there may be areas that covered back up with SNOW & do not appear groomed, Also remember that the base under the new SNOW is still icy. At road crossings be sure to stop and look both ways as snowbanks are high along side and there may be some trail crossings that are plowed shut. Be safe.

Trail 1N logging operation continues in the section between the Town of Washington Town Hall & Eagle Lake. With the log piles and icy grainy conditions in that section it would be good to slow down. Minimal grooming due to the logging operation.

Catfish Lake Loop & Eagle Lake Trails are marked with orange easy to see reflective barrels. Please stay by the barrels to be safe. No surface slush. Reminder that the Catfish Lake Trail that ran from Braywood to Lumpy’s is not open. Please do not trespass on private land.

Trails in sugar camp trail system are in good riding conditions. We received about 4″-6″ of fresh snow Friday morning so groomers will be out in full force this evening grooming getting them ready for the busy upcoming weekend. Corners and hills are still extremely icy so maintain reasonable speeds while approaching these area’s. Remember nighttime speed limits of 55 MPH and give groomers as much room as possible they have the right of way out there making the trails smooth for your ride! United we trail divided we fail!

Trails are holding up very well! Trails have a good base of 4-6 in. Trails are good to very good condition. The heaviest used areas have some brown mixed in however are grooming well. Riders can expect some icy corners. With new snow of 3-6 inches expected tonight into tomorrow watch for grooming operations day and night.

Areas of concern are trail 90 east between Old Grade and Federal Rd! The reroute has been removed and trail 90 is open! Watch for logging trucks as they are still removing some loads and running on Federal Road! Another area is Trail 15 between Club Lake Rd and Camp Eight Rd at the Great Divide. Heavy ice over the trail due to a spring that continues to spread water across the trail!

The cold weather has helped keep the snow we got earlier in the week. We continue to hear good things about the trails! I would consider our trails good to very good! This should be another good weekend to ride! be safe out there, and remember your signals to oncoming riders as well as those behind you. HAVE FUN AND RIDE SAFE.

News and Reports:

A huge thank you to all who attended the Winterfest Rendezvous and those who purchased tickets on our Arctic Cat Raffle. Congratulations to winner Dave Mueller! Dave is a club member and helps out at Our Duck Race!

Thank you to all of our volunteers that made our event a huge success! Some of these guys took 2 days off of work to help set the tent and organize everything. This is a lot of work, but so rewarding to know that it went so well! Proceeds from the Winterfest and raffles go towards trail maintenance!

I am proud of how everyone pitched in to make this such a great event: from the people and businesses who donated raffle items, to those who attended and purchased raffle tickets and especially the volunteers! We look forward to next years events!

The Manitowish Waters Sno-Skeeters snowmobile club was founded in 1968 and is one of the oldest snowmobile clubs in existence today in Wisconsin. All trails have been groomed but because of the thaw last week, and only about 1″ of new snow this week, some of the trails have bare spots. There are areas where ice may be a problem also. Definitely could use some more snow but generally most trails are in good condition.

News and Reports:

Raffle tickets are available from club members and participating businesses. This year instead of the drawings being held at the trailhead in Tipler they will be held at the Wild River Interpretive Center, lower level, in Florence on Sept. 3.

Trail Report – : Bayfield County, Wisconsin – February 22, 2018

Area Report:

We have fresh snow and lots of it! Snow fall totals from this latest storm ranged from around 4 inches in the south to as much as 12-18 inches in the north. We also have more snow in the forecast for tonight and Saturday night. Looks like it’s going to be a great weekend for riding!

For those riding forest roads on National Forest Service land, please use caution and stay alert! Especially in areas where you see activity i.e. plowed roads. We can’t monitor all the forest roads throughout the county so unsafe conditions may exist. We’ve had reports of large plowed snowbanks on the roads which can be hard to see, so slow down and stay safe. Detailed reports from the local snowmobile clubs are posted below. Stay safe and stay on the trails!

Namakagon Trail Groomers: Trails are holding up very well! Trails have a good base of 4-6 in. Trails are good to very good condition. The heaviest used areas have some brown mixed in however are grooming well. Riders can expect some icy corners. With new snow of 3-6inches expected Thursday (2/22) into Friday (2/23) watch for grooming operations day and night. Areas of concern are trail 90 east between old grade and federal Rd! Drummond Snojacks: New snowfall accumulations of 6” over the last two days (2/19-2/20). Groomers are out at night and will continue through the weekend. All trails will be in excellent condition. We advise caution on trail #63 south to Lake Owen due to underlying ice in some areas.

Bayfield County Snowmobile Alliance – Iron River Area: Iron River area received 10 plus inches of much needed snow. Grooming operations will be ongoing throughout the week. Be aware we are still finding icy conditions on hills and turns. Last week we had 3 very close calls with riders not paying attention to trail in front of them. Groomers are out both night and day so please expect them around every corner and blind hill. As always ride safely.

Barnes Barnestormers: Lots of fresh snow, the town of Barnes trails 7 and 17 were groomed last night (2/19). I will be doing 31 today(2/20), expecting it to be in excellent condition. The other trails will be done later this week.

Washburn Valhallers: Washburn area received 10+ inches of snow and both 13N from Washburn to Valhalla and 13S from Washburn to corridor were groomed on 2/20. Trails are in excellent condition but a few icy corners still exist so riders should use caution. All trails will be regroomed on Friday, 2/23 so it should be an excellent weekend of riding.

Trails in the Valhalla area are in excellent condition. New 10-16″ of snow should make for some great riding. All trails in the area will be groomed by the weekend.

South shore Trail Club – Port Wing, Herbster & Cornucopia: Groomed trail 1 40 41 today (2/21) and 1 & 11 into corny tomorrow 2/22. Trails are very good to excellent with some icy corners.

WAINO Riders- Northwest corner of the County: Trail 1 will be groomed today (2/20) or tomorrow and possibly Friday if it’s busy this week.

Closures:

Trail 1 near Port Wing: This is now open but use caution as ruts have frozen into the ground.
Trail 63 in the Cable Area: Trail 63 just south of the intersection with Trail 70 south of the town of Cable is closed until further notice.
Trail 31, South of the intersection with Trail 1 near the City of Bayfield is not signed and not being groomed. There is currently no trail access to the City of Bayfield, but there is access to Legendary Waters Casino.

ReReoutes:

Trail 13 outside Washburn, follow signs. Permanent reroute.
Trail 4 east of Mason, follow signs. Seasonal reroute for now, includes road routes.
Trail 70 south of Cable, follow signs. Seasonal reroute for now, includes road routes.

Logging Activity

Trail 40 Southeast of Port Wing has a timber sale going active this week so keep your eyes out and stay alert in that area.
Trail 51 south of Cornucopia near Jodi road is now being used for an active timber sale. They are logging off the trail and using the trail as a haul route so use caution. Jodi road is also being plowed for a short distance.
