Trail Report – : Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan – March 2, 2018

Reporter:SaultSteMarie

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: Base is 3 inches

Date of Report: March 2, 2018

Area Report:

Groomers out overnight and trails in fair to good shape yet. They are icy and road shoulders are bare. Less snow base around Kinross area, without new snow they will not last much longer.  With the high winds watch for newly fallen branches or trees!

Follow us on Facebook, too.

We have a newly-plowed parking area at the beginning of Trail #8 under the International Bridge, which now has an all-season porta-john.  Make sure you lock your vehicles and trailers.

If you are staying in the Sault, please look at our list of supporters on our web page and give them your business.  Please do that in all towns you visit.  The grooming entities are all made up of volunteers who want you to support those who support us!

Remember, trail base is the amount of snow between your track and the ground below, not the amount of fluff piled up in the woods.  10 inches of snow compresses to less than an inch on the trail.

Sault Ste. Marie to Brimley, Trail #8 –

Base 1 – 4 inches -Trail is in fair to good condition.

Brimley to Raco, Trail #8 –

Base 2 – 4 inches -Trail is in good condition.

We now have a marked trail going to Chippewa Motors.  It starts once you come out of the woods east of M-129 off #449.  It comes into their parking lot from behind if you need parts or service.

City curfew is from 1 am – 6 am. Remember, most City streets are open to traffic 20 mph, stop at all intersections, and ride on the right-hand side of street not on sidewalks. Watch for closed streets that are posted, mainly around the hospital, university, and state trunk lines.

Sault Ste. Marie to Kinross, Trail #49 –

Base 1 – 4 inches – Trail is in fair to good condition.

Make sure you follow the reroute once you cross the bridge going south at 7 Mile Road.

Kinross loop & south to Pickford, Parts of Trail #49, #472, and #494 –

Date of Report: March 2, 2018

Area Report:

Trail report for March 2, 2018 Poor to Fair condition. The weather sure has not been good to us lately.  We did receive a couple of inches of snow yesterday, but it won’t help all that much.  It is expected to be in the 40’s over the weekend and it’s going to melt a lot of snow. We will have to see how bad it will get. The trails seem to be pretty good out in the woods but around town they are very bare and poor. We have our biggest fundraiser this Saturday at Gooch’s Bar- Cabin Fever Party. Please come out and join us for a lot of fun. We have a great dinner and a lot of prizes to win. Remember to be safe, ride right, and enjoy the ride.

THE GOGEBIC RANGE TRAIL AUTHORITY REPORTS:

Trail 2 from Hurley to Ramsay US-2 Crossing is good. Watch for Icy corners as you head east out of Ironwood! As you depart Ironwood past Walmart heading east the horseshoe-turns around the Transfer Station are getting icy, please ride right & ride cautiously
The rail-bed trail ENDS on the east side of the Keystone Bridge. The club grooms the bridge to maintain it for local access. The “old” trail to Wakefield is closed east of Verona Road. Tickets will be issued if you ride on this closed trail.

Trail 2 from Ramsay Crossing to Wakefield is good. The trail has improved dramatically this week with all the fresh snow, but the corners are icy and by midday we expect the traffic to have swept the corners. There have been several near-miss accidents due to riders not riding on their side of the trail or blowing through icy corners. We need everyone to ride safely through there at a reasonable speed to keep everyone safe. The hill climbs to Indianhead Big Snow Resorts are snow packed and smooth.

Trail 2 from Wakefield to Marenisco is very good. There is active construction 5 miles east of Wakefield use caution. Watch for icy corners from Wakefield to US HWY. 2 trail crossing.

Trail 8 from Bingo’s to Tula Crossing is very good. The trail has lots of snow on it and is a wide seasonal county road that is not plowed and makes for a fun trail ride.

Trail 160 from Walmart to Montreal River(WI) is good. This is a very scenic trail with spectacular views. ENJOY!! There is logging near the Lake Road area, please slow down, remember logging trucks have the right of way.

Trail 11S is good to good. The first 2 miles of the trail as it heads south towards Wisconsin from Trail 2 is plowed due to logging. Please yield to all commercial truck traffic. The trail is in great shape and is groomed from the Vilas County Wisconsin Line to Trail 2 completely, regularly. There are still a few thin areas and areas that need more brushing but the trail is fantastic.

Trail Report – : Hayward / Sawyer County, Wisconsin – March 2, 2018

Reporter:haywardlakes

Trail Conditions: Excellent

Snow Cover: 4 to 10 inches base

Date of Report: March 2, 2018

Area Report:

Hello Riders!

Good news to all that have been eagerly awaiting a trail report after having some warm days! Your patience has paid off as we come with good news! The reports from around the county are that trails are good to excellent still! Fortunately because we received such an accumulation last week that snow was a blessing that will bring riding through the rest of the week and weekend!

With that said, there are going to be some areas that are not ideal but certainly passable. These areas include road connectors and trails along the road sides or out in the open in the direct sun light. There will be soft snow and/or bareness in these areas as well as at intersections.

But wooded trails still have a 10-15″ base and the lakes are wonderful! So while mapping out your weekend ride look to the woods and lakes and minimize trails that are on or near the roads. The season isn’t over yet so hop on your sled and get out and ride this weekend!

Surrounding counties are also reporting to be good to excellent.

Thank you to all club members, volunteers and groomers. And thank you to all of you for choosing Sawyer County as your riding destination.

Trail Report – : Three Lakes – Brule River, Wisconsin – March 2, 2018

Reporter:Threelakeswi

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 12-15″ in the woods

Date of Report: March 2, 2018

Area Report:

Here are your current conditions:
Mother Nature have is 3-4″ of snow yesterday. This really helped freshen the trails up. Along with single digits in temperature overnight and our continuing grooming efforts trails should be pretty good throughout the weekend. You will find a dirty spot, and roads will be a challenge, but it is march and that is expected. It’s not over yet.

Lakes are all marked, please stay close to barrels.

Please visit our Facebook page for more info.

Trail Report – : Sugar Camp, Wisconsin – March 2, 2018

Reporter:Matt Winters

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 4″-6″ woods areas

Date of Report: March 2, 2018

Area Report:

Trails in sugar camp are in fair riding conditions. The recent warm temps in the mid 40’s all this week have taken a toll on snow conditions on the trails. You will encounter alot of snirty conditions out there along with some burn thru from the sun  in certain areas showing some dirt. Also be aware of water standing on trails from melting snow you will have to do alittle driving around these areas to stay out of the dirt so  maintain reasonable speeds. This is also occurring in swampy & low lying areas. All lakes are still safe to cross so stay close to orange barrels. Temps will be in the mid 40’s the rest of the week into the weekend  so get out & ride while we got the snow! United we trail divided we fail!

VILAS COUNTY TRAILS ARE OPEN
Snowmobile Trails Can Remain Open Until Midnight March 31st
Conditions permitting

Chilly 8 degrees this morning!  Winter might just be back!  39 for a high today.  Yesterday fine wet SNOW fell.  Heavy at times. It was not sticking at first.   All in all about east of Eagle River maybe an inch remained on the ground.  Next forecast SNOW is set for Monday & Tuesday according the the Weather guys.  Stay tuned.

Trail on average are FAIR.  In town trails are POOR.  What was very mushy & water is frozen at this point this morning. So conditions are really icy. Many of the road trails for the most part have no snow on them.  Especially those running north & south.  Moving out of town conditions improve but it is a struggle to get to them without a bit of adventure sledding.  In woods trails particularly way out east, north & southwest are FAIR with even some areas of GOOD but this is getting far & few between. Trailering & dropping off to ride might be good.

Last night the Groomer Drivers were out & groomed all of Sno-Eagles Trails in Eagle River.  All set for the beginning of the weekend.

The section of the Chanticleer Inn Trail off of Trail 10E that takes riders to Eagle is mushy & wet at the entrance heading to the lake but is passable.  Trail Boss is monitoring that area and will close if conditions continue.

Trail 1N logging operation continues in the section between the Town of Washington Town Hall & Eagle Lake. With the log piles and icy grainy conditions in that section it would be good to slow down. Minimal grooming due to the logging operation.

Catfish Lake Loop & Eagle Lake Trails are marked with orange easy to see reflective barrels.  Please stay by the barrels to be safe.  Reminder that the Catfish Lake Trail that ran from Braywood to Lumpy’s is not open.  Please do not trespass on private land.

To keep the riding season going it’s going to take everyone Doin’ the SNOW Dance & THINKING COLD!!

See ya on the trails again real soon!
