Gogebic Area Grooming

The Lake Gogebic Area received 4-5” of wet snow beginning of this week which made for great trail packing snow.   Trails in our area are in good to very good condition, however, we are starting to see the effects of the sun and melting snow in open and wet areas.

!!TRAIL CLOSURE!!

Trail 1S on the north end of Lake Gogebic where the highways of M-64 and M-28 intersect 4 miles west of Bergland is closed for the remainder of the season as logging crews move in. We thank our logging landowners greatly for the access they provide and sledders you have to respect the closures! You can get to Marenisco using the lake.

Trails 102, 1n, 13n, 8w, 8e and 13s were all groomed today.  Crews were out last night and this morning making the trails around Marenisco smooth again.   We had freezing temps last night which was great for our trails.   We will have to see how the temps over the next couple of days impact our trails.

If you’re thinking about coming up to ride – don’t think too long!    Come on up while everything is still good!!!

SNO-EAGLES
EAGLE RIVER TRAILS
Late Season Riding

Not much new. It’s officially Late Season Riding. ALL conditions depending where you ride. Woods trails are still GOOD but soft.Trails along roads on the south side are GOOD. North side trails are in rough shape & POOR. Best riding is heading NORTH or EAST. Roads & road crossings area challenge & POOR.  SNOW starting tonight and off & on thru next Monday.  Right now it looks like 2-3 inches of SNOW.  It’s March & temps pop up during the day into the 30’s.  Cloudy today. At night in the teens helping to freeze, building a base & hold the SNOW. It’s ADVENTURE SLEDDING. Time to ride it when we got it.

Out of Eagle River -Sno-Eagles Country, riding west & south of Boulder Junction is a good bet. Also Sugar Camp woods trails.   But everywhere conditions change quickly.

No grooming last tonight. Waiting for colder temps & more SNOW.

With the number of accidents & fatalities this season remind you when riding:

When you come upon a group of sleds in front of you on the trail.  Passing them can get you in trouble.   Have been seeing this all winter.  When an entire group passes, by the time the last sled passes, a sled could be coming from the other direction.

Remember as you ride & meet a groomer the equipment is NOT able to leave the trail due to it’s weight.  Pull over & stop.  Wait for direction from the driver.  Give ’em a thumbs up.  They groom so we can ride!

Please ride on the right side, slow down, limit alcohol & no off trail riding.

Catfish  Eagle lakes are marked with reflective orange barrels.   Surface slush on top of snow.  Stay by the barrels.

Take the snowmobiliers pledge to protect snowmobiling access for today’s and future snowmobiliers.

Boulder Junction Snowmobile Club Trail Report – Wednesday, 3/8/2023

At 8:00 a.m. it’s 19 degrees out with partly sunny skies and a high of 38 degrees today.

We last groomed 8E and 15S yesterday morning and will not be grooming again until Thursday night due to the warm day temps and reduced sled traffic.

With the season winding down, we are now in typical late season riding conditions with above freezing during the day and a cool down at night. Best riding will be in the mornings as the trails will be hard and mostly flat.

We will be doing our last club ride today and I will share details on Friday’ trail report. There is a cool down coming this Friday into next week which should allow riding through next week.

Enjoy our trails and local businesses this week and as always “Ride Right” and be safe.

Trail Report – : Conover, Wisconsin – March 8, 2023

Reporter:snobuddies

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 6-10″

Date of Report: March 8, 2023

Area Report:

The trails are holding up in the woods very well. With the strong March sun out in the day time, it is taking it’s toll on the trails. There is some areas in direct sunlight that have burned through down to the dirt base. Then you make a turn into a shaded area, there is still plenty of base and the trails are holding up.

Early morning riding, the trails are still and icy. By afternoon, they start to soften up. Road routes are pretty bare. Lakes are snow covered, but stay near the barrels. If the lake is not marked, stay off them.

The forecast of snow for Thursday-Friday has dropped off to 1-3″. Then there is more in the forecast for Saturday-Sunday. Seems to be a row of storms lined up, so we could see more snow coming yet.

No grooming yesterday as the trails were holding up with lighter traffic in the daytime. We will watch the forecasts and watch trail conditions to determine when we need to be out again.

News and Reports:

  • A reminder to ride between the orange blazers. Be careful in corners as there is an ice layer under the snow. Ride Right ➡️ Ride Safe.
  • To see where the Groomer is at, check out  Groomer Tracker  Half the cost of the app comes back to Conover Sno-Buddies to support grooming operations.
