Snowmobile Trail Conditions

Prentice Bush Benders 01/24/2019
We have received a few inches of snow over the last few days. This will help improve the trails somewhat but they remain in fair condition in the wooded areas and poor condition with minimal snow coverage in the open areas. They are still in early season riding condition with some rough spots so use caution when riding. As of today we will start our normal grooming schedule and will be out every day panning/grooming while conditions allow. The trails to the South and East have the most snow cover and all creeks and swamps remain frozen. There is logging on trail 181 East of Prentice and on trail 116 around County Road K. Ride safe and have fun.

Eisenstein Bushwackers 1/22/2019
Groomed all Bushwacker Trails 101,103,104-105,110,and 111. We didn’t get a lot of snow and switched to our new mogul Master Trail drag. Trails are good condition. The mogul takes the bumps off much better than the other drag. You can see this on here 105 trail is good get out and enjoy our trails Our club and our Neighbors the Sno Gypsies work very hard to give you the best possible ride. Enjoy and Thank you from the Eisenstein Bushwackers. keep speeds down enjoy the scenery

Kennan and Catawba 1/21/2019
Trails in the Kennan and Catawba have been panned or packed and in very poor shape and un-rideable west of intersection 100 to the Rusk county. Trail 94 will remain closed till we get snow.

Sno Gypsies 1/17/19
We Groomed 80 89 90 and 91 today we will be grooming 80 south to Boyer road and Toscobia trail tonight trails and fair to good condition all swamps are frozen and groomed enjoy Thank You from the Gypsies Drive responsibly ,enjoy

The Sno Drovers 1/15/19
The Sno Drovers’ trails in the Pike Lake area continue to be in fair to good condition. While the weekend traffic was hard on the thin snow cover, but they are grooming up well. There are rocks in areas that have made their way to the top of the snow, especially on 101 west from the lakes by the iron bridge and on 111 just north of Fish Trap Road. There are occasional bare spots, but not too many nor too bad. If we get just a few inches of snow, the trails should be great since they are nice and flat now.
Logging continues on Trail 120 south of the big swamp and Fould’s Creek Rd and on Trail 108 between Trail 101 and highway 70. Take these slowly and expect icy conditions and logging equipment.

Taconite/David Dill State Trail
Snow: 14-24”
Base: 2-4”
Groomed: Yes
Condition: Fair to Good
The entire Taconite is groomed and in fair to good condition. A few miles toward Ely from the Wolf Track GIA trail is a small area of open water on one side of the trail. Caution signs are up. Use caution in general in swamps and areas with moving water as ice is still thin in spots. Also, the trail base between Tower and Ely is relatively thin, and logging is happening just west of Hwy 1, south of Ely.
The spur trail leading from the Taconite to the Oasis Bar and Grill in Britt has been rerouted due to landowner issues. The reroute goes from the Taconite east of Hwy 53 (opposite side from the Oasis) to Peppard Rd, crosses Hwy 53 at the Peppard Rd Jct, and follows the ditch south to Peel Rd and to the Oasis.

VILAS COUNTY TRAILS TO INCLUDE SNO-EAGLES TRAILS ARE OPEN!
Trails GOOD few areas Fair

January 24 2019 7:09am – 12 degrees – High of 16

Tuesday into Wednesday SNOW was about 3 inches east to 2 inches in town.  Then in came the Lake Effect!  Another couple inches east a little less in town.  Another inch forecast for today. So there’s fresh SNOW & time to ride!

SNOW is white & trails are GOOD. “The grade” Trail 13/3 in town is in good shape and so are other open areas.  West is much better with the new SNOW.  Expect the high hill trail on 70W across from the Wisconsin River to thin out as the traffic increases.  Trail 10E between Loon Lk Rd. & Bloom Lk Rd could use more SNOW.  After that section 10E really is some of the best riding! So is heading north & south.  Doesn’t look like any grooming overnight.

Here comes the COLD.  16 below tonight.  Weather guys forecast below zero all of Friday. Below zero every night for the next week.  Single digit above or below zero during the day forecast for the next week.

Here are some cold weather tips.

  • Don’t ride alone
  • Tell someone where you will be riding
  • Dress in layers
  • Stop more often & drink warm drinks
  • Make sure you keep the gas tank full
  • Be sure your phone is fully charged & you have a map

Worth repeating is that:

Sno-Eagles Country has 2 areas that have one-way trails.  10E is a one-way trail from the ERRA Sports Arena all the way out to Nicolet Mini Mart.  The other is the 13’s up near Buckatabon Bridge & Bauer’s Dam area.  Clearly marked with DO NOT ENTER signs.  Plus trail signs are backwards if you are going the wrong way.

EAGLE LAKE TRAIL & CATFISH LAKE TRAIL ARE MARKED & OPEN. Stay by the reflective orange barrels.

See ya on the trails!
