Cross Country Cruisers Trail Report 1-17-19

The trails are holding up pretty well considering the lack of new snow fall.  The riders are enjoying them.

Got out and rode some myself this week, enjoyed the ride, and appreciated all the surrounding clubs efforts to keep the trails in good to very good shape.

Yes there are some areas that are thin on snow and there is definitely some icy corners but overall some pretty nice riding.

The Cruisers have been busy grooming their trails as well and have done a great job of pulling in the corners and trying to put snow back on the icy areas. The colder temperatures forecasted for this weekend I believe the trails will hold up to an anticipated very busy weekend.

Trail 3 is good to very good, trail 5 is fair to good, and trails 6, 10,11,17,51 and the Bear skin are good to very good. Trail 70 in town is fair to good.

We expect a lot of traffic this weekend so as the weekend goes on trails may show the wear and tear. Please use caution in the corners, many of them have become icy and stay to the right!

NOW LISTEN UP FOLKS, Lake Minocqua is being marked this morning. The lake trail will be marked slightly different than in the years past through the area near the Hwy 51 Bridge or down town area some may call it.

There will be some extra barrels used to mark this trail and we ask that you all STAY NEXT TO THE BARRELS AND MARKERS!!

This has been an ongoing concern this year and we certainly appreciate the businesses and individuals that have monitored this and have helped make this Lake trail available to us all!!

PLEASE folks ride smart and stay by the markers!!

All other Lakes in the Cruisers area are marked and please stay next to the markers!

It is going to be busy with the three day weekend for many and the World Championship Snowmobile Derby in Eagle River so please let’s all use some extra caution out there and ride safe!

Ride Right Ride Safe!

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 3-7

Area Report:

Red Arrow Snowmobile Trails (Townsend) – It’s 16 degrees in beautiful downtown Townsend this evening. Sorry for the late report, but even I went for a ride today! Put on 106.7 miles and this is what we found. The trails east of Hwy 32 are in GOOD TO VERY GOOD CONDITION. The Nicolet State Trail ( The Grade ) is very icy in spots so be careful! I would say that it is in GOOD TO VERY CONDITION. The trails west of town toward Hwy 64& T are in GOOD TO VERY GOOD CONDITION on the level trails. In the hills it is still FAIR TO POOR. We still need more snow there for covering the rocks. The trails are starting to show wear with no new snow in the forecast, as long as there is material to work with, we will continue to groom.

Paul Bunyan (Lakewood) – Groomers are back after grooming the trails Sunday night. Trail Boss Bob Prasser rates them as good to very good. We have a good base and hopefully the next 2 days don’t get to warm. Starting Wednesday the temperatures are going to go below freezing so grooming will resume. The guys did a great job keeping the trails in great shape with the huge amount of traffic we had. Ride safe

Chute Pond Snowmobile Trails (Mountain) – Chute Pond trails are open. Trails are panned and in early season condition, meaning to watch for dips and ruts that will need more snow to fill in. There may also be some icy areas. Riding is not advised on the NST south of Hwy 32 to Suring and also the route through Suring to Golf Course Rd due to low snow cover. The pipeline trail may not be groomed until the low spots freeze up more- use extra caution if you ride in that area. Watch for groomers on the trail anytime of day or night, and always yield the right of way to them. Enjoy your ride!

Bagley and Brazeau Joyriders Snowmobile Trails –  Sections of the BB Joyriders trails are open. Trails south of Hwy Z are closed and east of Parkway Rd, up to Hwy 64 are closed. Intersections 408, 425 are closed to the south. This means Kelly Lake and Lee Lake areas are closed.  Trails are closed to Suring and Klondike. There is no snow on any of the lakes including White Potato Lake.  They are all bare ice.

Trails that are open surround White Potato Lake and to the north.  All these trails have not been groomed and have many icy areas.  Early season riding conditions are poor at this time.  Remember, there is no snow on any of the lakes.  The snow is very hard on the top surface of the trails, if the weather changes, they may improve.

There is one area on 15/17 in the camp four road area that is not freezing and their will be some work being done in this area Friday morning january 18. VILAS COUNTY TRAILS TO INCLUDE SNO-EAGLES TRAILS ARE OPEN!
Still Early Season Riding
Trails Good to Fair

January 17, 2019 6:45am – 0 degrees – High of 21

Another cold one this morning.  Great for trail set up. With grooming the mushy SNOW before the temps drops the trails are now really smooth.

Some early SNOW yesterday morning that was it.  None over night or this morning.

Did not ride yesterday.  But was out & about with my car & the trails I could see where very smooth.  Road crossings are snirty from all the road sand & where there are icy inclines.  Tonight plan to ride into town for a Club meeting.  Let you know in the morning how they were.

Sno-Eagles Country has 2 areas that have one-way trails.  10E is a one-way trail from the ERRA Sports Arena all the way out to Nicolet Mini Mart.  The other is the 13’s up near Buckatabon Bridge & Bauer’s Dam area.  Clearly marked with DO NOT ENTER signs.  Plus trail signs are backwards if you are going the wrong way.

EAGLE LAKE TRAIL & CATFISH LAKE TRAIL ARE MARKED & OPEN. Stay by the reflective orange barrels.  Do not drift away from the barrels as it is not safe to do so.  Remember not all lakes have trails so if you don’t see marker do not ride on it to be safe.  These are the only 2 lakes that are marked in Sno-Eagles Country.  No other lake trails.

Last,  there is a dusk to dawn speed limit of 55 MPH.

Continue DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE & THINK COLD!

See ya on the trails tonight!
