EAGLE RIVER TRAILS
Very Good to Excellent
Frozen Icy Base – With plenty SNOW

As you ride should you come across any issues pleased call Dan at 262.951.6519.
All in all trails are Great!

Couple new inches of SNOW overnight.  Headed into a really COLD spell for the next week.  Single digits during the day, even some below zero highs. Double digit below zero at night.  The SNOW last night looks like the last SNOW for a while.  Maybe some Lake Effect.

Base is hard ice with plenty of SNOW on top.  With the cold coming SNOW will get crusty & there may be “fast” aka slippery conditions.  So slow down.

GTS Tracking shows almost a full grooming last night.  Here is what was NOT GROOMED
Trail 10E & the spurs to Chanticleer, Grampa Graham, 9 mile trail
Trail 1 & 17 from Trail 3 intersection north of town.  Trail 1 runs to Eagle Lake boat launch.  17 connects with the Phelps trails

Couple of notices:

Trail 10/13 aka Wisconsin River Bridge section is open frozen on the trail base.  Don’t off trail ride as there is still water off trail.  Trail is icy & rough.

Reminder that Trail 13S does not run all the way to Three Lakes as a portion was closed.  Club is working on a re route.

Eagle Lake was marked by businesses. Safety lights at entrance & exit from/to the lake trail have been installed.

Catfish Lake is NOT MARKED. Uncertain it will open as there are no businesses open on the lake this winter.

If you ride during the cold snap be sure to tell someone where you are riding; don’t ride alone; fully charged phone; dress in layers; tell someone where you are headed; stop more often to warm up & drink warm drinks, refrain from drinking alcohol.

Trail Report – : Rhinelander, Wisconsin – January 19, 2026

Reporter:Hodag SnoTrails

Trail Conditions: Excellent

Snow Cover: good solid base

Date of Report: January 19, 2026

Area Report:

Wow, we were treated with fresh snow over the weekend and it was just what we needed to move the trails to “excellent” condition.  This just doesn’t happen.  Hodag Sno-Trails has been out working the snow and the conditions are the best we have experienced in years.

It is going to be a cold week, so expectedly, the traffic will be down this week and the trails will set up even firmer.  Everyone should expect great conditions for an extended amount of time.

Bundle up and join the fun!

Trail Report – : Conover, Wisconsin – January 18, 2026

Reporter:snobuddies

Trail Conditions: Excellent

Snow Cover: 8-12”

Date of Report: January 18, 2026

Area Report:

We have groomed all of our trails Friday and Saturday nights. There was a ton of sled traffic with the Derby going on and the Holiday on Monday. Took some work to get the trails flat again and pull the corners down.

Seems that during busy times like this weekend, riders don’t know what to do when they come upon a groomer on the trail. I had several sleds ride right up to the front blade and looked at me like deer in headlights. When you see the groomer, look for a safe spot to get off the trail. If the groomer has room, we will move over as far as we can, dim/flash the headlights to indicate it is safe to pass the groomer and drag. Pass slow and safely.

The temps next week are supposed to be very cold. If you are out riding, dress warm and make sure your sled is in good running condition. You don’t want to have a breakdown in these cold temps.

Watch out for the large ice heave on North Twin Lake. It is marked with signs, barrels, and green flashing beacons. Please slow down and cross next to the barrels.

Trail Report – : Sayner, Wisconsin – January 18, 2026

Reporter:SaynerStar Lake Barnstormers

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: Good

Date of Report: January 18, 2026

Area Report:

A huge THANK YOU to Stillwaters for hosting our annual breakfast fundraiser yesterday, and to all who showed up to support the Sayner Barnstormers!  The food was incredible (as always)!

Over the past few days, we’ve had anywhere from 5″ to 8″ of fresh snow.  We wish it would have had some moisture in it to help it stick to the trails, but we’ll take what we can get.  Trails have been grooming out nicely every night.  If you are a morning rider, you’ve been experiencing some really great riding.  By afternoon, heavy traffic takes it’s toll and things get bumpier, especially on the busier trails like 7N out of Star Lake.

We will continue grooming nightly.  With the drop in temps expected this week, I’m anticipating the same trail conditions; they’ll be great in the mornings, but get bumpier quickly since there isn’t much moisture in the snow.

Remember, if you aren’t able to keep your sled on your side of the trail as you enter corners, you’re going too fast and putting the safety of others at risk!  You can drive too slow many times, but you may only drive too fast once!  SAFETY TRUMPS EGO!

Ride RIght & Ride Safe!

Mark your calendars for these upcoming Barnstormer events:

Saturday, February 7 – Chili dump at The Murm from 2:00 – 5:00.

Sunday, February 15 – Pizza fundraiser at Hillside Tavern from 4:00 – 8:00.

Saturday, March 14 – Drawing for Snowmobile Raffle at Sayner Pub at 5:00!

Schiff of SNOW overnight.  Maybe an inch. Next SNOW tonight into tomorrow. 2-4 inches forecast. Starting early tomorrow morning wind moving in.  Windchill 30 below.  Air temps high of 5 & low of 10 below.  Single digit highs most of the week. Below zero at night all week.

Trail 10W/13N aka the Wisconsin River section is now open.  Expect it to be rough because much of the trail flooded & is now hard frozen ice.  DO NOT leave the trail in that area as off trails could/are mushy & you will get stuff.  It was groomed last night.

Reminder that Trail 13S does not run all the way to Three Lakes as a portion was closed.  Club is working on a re route.

Eagle Lake was marked by businesses. Safety lights at entrance & exit from/to the lake trail have been installed.

More SNOW in Vilas County.  Weather guys were wrong.  Eagle River got 5 inches of SNOW instead of the 1-3 forecast!  As for the rest of the coming week. SNOW this morning.  SNOW off & on all day tomorrow.  Plus SNOW off & on all week. Typical January temps.  Single digits & below zero at night. The COLD temps can make the top SNOW crusty with less lubrication.  The La Nina WINTER is going no where.  So it’s time to ride!

GTS Tracking shows nearly a full grooming session overnight into this morning.  Only trails NOT groomed are:

Trail 70W that connects with St. Germain BoBoen trails – as you ride the trail section behind Krist Oil please STOP at the STOP signs

Trail 13/17S that head down along Hwy 17S & connect with the Sugar Camp Survivor trails

            Trail 7 aka Paintball field

ATVs will be authorized to utilize snowmobile trails in Zone B on January 26, 2026 and Zone A on January 24, 2026. UTVs are not allowed on the Langlade County Snowmobile trail at any time system due to weight and width of the machines.

The Langlade County Snowmobile clubs, sponsors, and operators of the existing trails, have put in many volunteered hours brushing, signing, and grooming to provide snowmobile trails for your use. Please support the snow clubs, thank them for their efforts and patronized their business sponsors.

All lake trails in Langlade County are considered unsafe and should not be utilized until they have been clearly marked by a local snowmobile club. As always, the Langlade County Forestry, Parks & Recreation Department recommends riders stay on clearly marked trails, ride safe and ride “right”.

The snowmobile clubs spend a considerable amount of time working with landowners to be able to provide the exceptional trail system we have. Please respect private property and the efforts of the clubs to access private property; use of trails across private lands is a privilege. Always exercise caution when riding a snowmobile, the trails are in early season condition and are variable across the County depending upon snow depth and base thickness.
