Trail Report – : Superior – Douglas County, Wisconsin – March 13, 2019

Reporter:nikky.farmakes

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 12+ inches, however, rain is in the forecast.

Date of Report: March 13, 2019

Area Report:

Rain is in the forecast, hoping the rain does not damage the trails too much before the weekend, will update on Friday.  Trail conditions will deteriorate through the week with the rain

SW Quadrant

Please be cautious with trail conditions as rain will be a factor and trail conditions will deteriorate through the week. Trail 9 is closed between the Town Road TT and the North Road.  Watch for signs on Trail 5 at the Beaver Brook crossing for rerouting around an ice issue.

SE Quadrant

Because of warm weather and rain, the Jack Pine Riders are planning to suspend operations over the next few days. As of March 12, all trails are open, groomed and in good shape. Most trails will be groomed again Friday after the rain.

*Please note – The CN Railroad is warning snowmobilers to stay off railroad property in Solon Springs. There is a new trail to Solon Springs (Trail 27B).  Where the trail meets Business Highway 53, snowmobilers must use the road shoulders and not the railroad property to access the railroad crossing on Main Street.  Snowmobilers have and will continue to be ticketed for operating on the railroad’s property.*

NE Quadrant

Please watch for low hanging brush and limbs.  Conditions are mostly good to excellent as there is still a lot of snow out there. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to get the conditions of the trails until after the rain stops, more details on Friday.

NW Quadrant

All trails are open except for Saunders Grade, which is closed for the season. All trails have been in good condition with a large amount of snow on the base, but the Amnicon Drift Dodgers are suspending operations until after the rainstorm and warm temperatures.

Trail Report – : Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin – March 13, 2019

Reporter:Manitowish Waters Chamber

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 30-40 Inches

Date of Report: March 13, 2019

Area Report:

We rode Monday and trails were excellent, however it warmed up yesterday and it looks like a chance of rain starting Wednesday night through Thursday with a chance of snow Thursday night into Friday.  There is still a ton of snow still out there, but it is soft due to warm weather.  Today I would call our trails good, but stay tuned. If you’re planning a weekend trip up, I would still come up. Temperatures will be cooling a bit,  and a chance of snow Friday.  A big thank you to all of our groomers for doing such a great job this Winter!

News and Reports:

A huge thank you to all donors, sponsors, volunteers and those who came out to the Rendezvous 2019.  It was a huge success!

Snowmobile Information:

The Manitowish Waters Sno-Skeeters snowmobile club was founded in 1968 and is one of the oldest snowmobile clubs in existence today in Wisconsin. Located in the very northwest corner of Vilas county, Manitowish Waters borders the Lake Superior snow-belt country. With average snowfalls of 150 inches and over 25 miles of professionally groomed trails, the area is one of Vilas County’s top winter vacation areas.

The Manitowish Waters trail system is a unique hub network directly linking into 5 other trail systems. With Minocqua/Woodruff to our south, St. Germain/Eagle River to our southeast, Lake Gogebic to our north, Presque Isle/Winchester to our northeast, Mercer and Hurley to our northwest and Lac du Flambeau/Price County to our west, our area residents and guests can choose from a variety of daily or overnight destinations for scenic riding with excellent pit stops along the way.

The Manitowish Waters Sno-Skeeters maintain an active grooming schedule for the area’s trail system. Coordinated efforts with the surrounding communities provide continuous smoothly-groomed trails in this northwest sector. The Sno-Skeeters own and operate some of the newest grooming equipment on the market today. Support the club by attending their special events or contributing to the “trail pigs” at local establishments along the trails. Or show your support by becoming a member!

Enjoy, and please ride responsibly and safely!

Trail Report – : Boulder Junction, Wisconsin – March 13, 2019

Reporter:boulderwi

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 35-40 inches

Date of Report: March 13, 2019

Area Report:

Trail report for March 13, 2019– Trails are good.  The current temp is about 28 deg above zero. The trails are holding up right now. We are expecting some warmer temps in the mid 40’s later today and rain for tonight and tomorrow morning. With more rain and warmer temps on Thursday this will start to degrade our trails drastically. With the rain it can get slick on the trail. Please use caution. One good thing is there may be some more snow during the end of the week, and we will have to wait to see how much snow we get. Another good thing is last year at this time we had stopped grooming for about two weeks and had many bare spots on the trail. Remember to be safe, ride right, and enjoy the ride.

Trail Report – : Three Lakes – Brule River, Wisconsin – March 13, 2019

Reporter:Threelakeswi

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 20-30”

Date of Report: March 13, 2019

Area Report:

Here are your current conditions
Our trail system is still open. The lastest we can stay open is till March 31st due to our agreements with private landowners.

Well, Mother Nature is being a little grumpy again. We did receive some rain overnight(Tuesday night) but with the huge base that we have, it didn’t kill them. We were able to groom everything prior to the rain. Trails will still good condition. The roads will start to get bare again. Lakes will get very slushy. Watch out for deer, if you come upon them, please give them some time to get off the trails. Use extreme caution at road crossings, snow banks are high and tough to see cross traffic. Stay on the trail on the lakes, if you get off, you will get stuck.

Please stay on the trail, or you have a good chance of getting stuck. You must yield to the groomers, they have the right away. It is much easier to get a sled unstuck then it is a groomer.

Please, slow down and limit your drinking. Way too many fatalities in northern Wisconsin, and they all can be prevented.

Lakes are all marked. Remember, stay as close to the barrels as possible. If you don’t see barrels, assume they are not safe.

Please respect our private landowners and stay on the trail. We have had a couple issues this year already and it always puts our trails in danger.

Use caution at all road crossing as they are icy.

Check our Facebook page for information about the new hoodies and T-shirt’s we have for sale.

Western U P Snowmobile Report
March 13, 2019
Snowmobile report

Rain is in the forecast for Wednesday and Thursday, changing to snow. We have plenty of snow so hopefully this will not do much to our trails. We have snow in the forecast for Friday so things should be okay for the weekend. Temps for the weekend will be in the low 30’s with the lows in the teens. What an awesome time to come up and enjoy some of the greatest trails we have had in years. DON’T MISS OUT!!!!!

THE GOGEBIC RANGE TRAIL AUTHORITY Tuesday 3/12 2:00pm CST: Grooming has ceased as of 3/12/19 2:00am. Grooming is planned to resume this weekend with one groomer while the second groomer will be out in the distant reaches of our system brushing for next season. Many spots we only have access to in the winter so it is go-time for brushing! We have about an inch of rain forecast for the weekend. We can survive rain, even a lot of rain, but we can’t groom an ice block. No the rain will not bring us dirt trails. However there could be water flowing hazards across trails and things can get real icy real quick. We do not have a tiller so grooming becomes a very time sensitive task. Riding this weekend is encouraged, just need to ride cautiously as running water could appear on the trails. If you see a groomer please pull over and let them pass. Overall our trails are excellent!

Trail 2 from Hurley to Ramsay Crossing is excellent was last groomed 3/10/19. Please do not ride on sidewalks near Holiday and try to keep the noise down in town.

Trail 2 from Ramsay Crossing to Wakefield is very good was last groomed 3/10/19. PLEASE REMEBER TO CROSS US HWY 2 IN THE CORRECT LANE OF TRAVEL, DO NOT BLOCK HWY TURN LANES!

Wakefield to Marenisco is excellent was lasted groomed 3/10/19. This trail is a mix of twisty but wide forest roads (13mi) and 12mi of rail bed to Marenisco. This beautiful trail is 12 miles of unplowed wide logging roads that wind their way through the Gogebic Range Hills before running 10 miles of rail-trail to Marenisco. PLEASE STOP AT ALL STOP SIGNS ON THE RAIL TRAIL! There is a significant logging presence on FR-8100 with dozens of log trucks hauling out daily. Last week an accident occurred with a log truck. Stop at the stop signs!!

Trail 8 from Bingos to Tula Crossing is excellent and was last groomed 3/10/19. Bingo’s is closed and has no gas….

Trail 160 from Walmart to Montreal River (WI) is excellent last groomed 3/7/19. This is their most scenic trail and a treat to ride! Stay on the trail in the farm fields. Over 25 landowners are involved to make this trail a reality, please respect them and ride responsibly.

Trail 11S is in excellent condition it was last groomed 3/10/19. It is groomed all the way to the WI line. This 17 mile long trail has 2 stop signs and is a wilderness tour. The southern 3 miles get thinner, but remains in good condition.

Trail 11 N is closed indefinitely.

THE GOGEBIC AREA GROOMERS-
Tuesday, March 13th
Gogebic area trails are in excellent condition. Temps warm up Tuesday through Thursday and there’s a potential for rain that seems to diminish slightly as we head more into the week. Friday will bring about a drop in temperature with a forecast for snow. Groomers will be parked during this mid-week warm up and they will be back out as soon as the temperatures allow. We’ve got a great base and we certainly have enough snow – so we hope to have good riding through the end of March.

WATERSMEET WHITE THUNDER RIDERS reports 3/11/19:

Trail 2 West of Watersmeet – Excellent!

Trail 2 East of Watersmeet- Very good condition

Trail 13 South to Cisco Chain- Excellent

Red Arrow Snowmobile Trails (Townsend) – 3/10/2019

It’s 25 degrees in beautiful downtown Townsend this morning. We received a little more than an inch of fresh snow last night. The groomers were out last night and they tell me that the trails are still in excellent riding condition. They took a real beating yesterday with the heavy traffic in the area, but groomed out nicely.

Paul Bunyan (Lakewood) –  3/9/2019

The groomers were out last night and the trails are in excellent condition.  Heavy traffic is expected.  Watch for deer on the trails.

Chute Pond Snowmobile Trails (Suring/Mountain) -3/10/2019

Chute Pond trails are open, groomed, and are in very good condition. Grooming will be ongoing- so please watch for them on the trail any time of day or night- and always yield the right of way to the groomers. Stay to the right, and enjoy your ride!

Bagley and Brazeau Joyriders Snowmobile Trails – 3/13/2019

B &B Joyriders trails are in good to excellent condition, but we will be getting rain and also 50 degrees temps this week.  We did groom Monday and Tuesday and for the rest of the week we will not be grooming. We would like to keep the trails open for at least 1 more week if we don’t lose the snow.

Gillett – 3/10/19

Gillett trails are in great shape after last weekends winds. We groomed hard and go through all the drifts, some areas are a little narrower now, but with regular grooming they should be back to their normal width soon.

Area Report:

EAGLE RIVERS  TRAILS
On average GOOD

March 13 2019 6:57am  – 35  – High 43

The next few days are going to be interesting.  Cloudy this morning into late afternoon-early evening when showers forecast & continuing overnight.  Rain also Thursday.  With a 40% chance SNOW showers on Friday.  No reliable totals so stay tuned.

No grooming overnight.

SNOW is soft with the sun yesterday & warm up. Still plenty out there to ride & there are plenty riding.  Riding is still GOOD. If you are riding the municipalities have been out “winging” the roads snowbanks so there are areas where trails are filled with SNOW & some crossings blocked.  Expect water at the edge of the roads as you cross in many areas.  Slow down & be safe.

These important updates continue:

There is 1 logging operations going on where there is a need to use parts of the trails. Trail 13N by Deep Lake Rd. Plus utility work on 7 near Sugar Camp on the high line.

Even with the warm up the snowbanks at driveway crossing & road crossings are still high. Road crews are still out winging road banks.  Expect some blocked road & driveway crossings.  Please stop & cross with caution.

Some of the face of signs are snow covered.

EAGLE LAKE TRAIL & CATFISH LAKE TRAIL ARE MARKED & OPEN. Lakes are drifted & lots & lots of slush under the SNOW especially on Catfish Lake.  Moguls on Eagle Lake is much worse than on Catfish Lake.

The 2 one-way trail areas are 10E from the ERRA Sports Arena all the way out to Nicolet Mini Mart.  The other is the 13’s up near Buckatabon Bridge & Bauer’s Dam area.  Please be aware that for now signs will be buried in many locations.  PLEASE BE SURE TO CHECK A MAP SO YOU KNOW THE LOCATION OF THESE TRAILS.

Trails can & will remain open until midnight March 31 snow & conditions permitting.
