The spur trail leading from the Taconite to the Oasis Bar and Grill in Britt has been rerouted due to landowner issues. Trail Report – : Bayfield County, Wisconsin – March 14, 2019

Reporter:BayfieldCounty

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 12 to 24+ inches

Date of Report: March 14, 2019

Area Report:

General Countywide Report:
Rain and temperatures in the 40’s have impacted all of Bayfield County over the past three days. Temperatures are expected to dip below freezing through the weekend. There is still significant snow on the trails, but with the rain, thaw and freeze cycles, they are expected to be very hard, icy and slippery in some areas, and wet/slushy in others. In addition, many road routes are starting to show bare spots. There may be some incidental grooming this weekend, but trails are basically in late season condition.

See below for area specific reports. For the most up to date report of trail conditions, please contact the local snowmobile club.

Drummond Snojacks: Trails are reported to still be in very good condition with a base of 12″. Road routes and crossing will not be snow covered after mid week rain so plan your rides accordingly and stay off of private property. Trails in the Mason area are entirely on private property so stay on the trail, don’t cut corners or look for shortcuts.

Namakagon Trail Groomers: 12-15″ base. 40 degree weather. Trails are in very good condition but not sure how long they’ll last with the weather. Should hopefully be good through the weekend.

Valhalla Area: With the warm temperatures and rain, the trail will be soft and slushy. Remember StayRight, RideSober.

Iron River Area: Majority of Iron River area trails including the Tri County Corridor were groomed before the warm spell. With temps not falling below freezing a few days this week and potentially heavy rainfall, expect trails to be extremely icy with standing water in low areas. Plowed road routes also have been reported to be showing bare areas at this time.

Frosty’s Vintage Riders (Mason/Delta Area): Road routes are breaking up, but trails are still rideable. Grooming will most likely be suspended.

South Shore Trail Club (Port Wing, Herbster & Cornucopia Areas): Trails 1,40, 41 are still very good, will be back out grooming on Friday, if possible. The trails in the Port Wing area are still in good condition but road segments are breaking down fast. Rain and continued warm temperatures may do us in as the week progresses. Grooming will most likely be suspended in this area.

A portion of Trail 40 (Wally Polk) was recently plowed, but is still open. If riding this section of trail be aware of logging activity, including haul trucks. To get to Port Wing, an alternate route would be Trail 43 to Trail 66 to Trail 3.

Barnestormers (Barnes Area): Barnes trails were all groomed earlier this week with the exception of Trail 17 at Moore Road. With the warm weather we have suspended grooming. We feel with the good base we have and cold weather and a possibility of snow on Friday that there should be good riding this weekend yet.

Waino Riders (Northwest Corner of the County): Trail 1 is still being reported in rideable condition, though grooming is most likely suspended.

Washburn Valhallers: Rain and warm temperatures have made trails soft, with slippery corners. There is still plenty of snow, but road routes are also turning bare. The groomers will not be out this week or weekend.

Area Report:

EAGLE RIVERS  TRAILS
On average FAIR to GOOD

March 14 2019 6:51am  – 42  – High 47

Warm daytime temps continue.  Teens for lows at night til next week.  SNOW is dropping but with so much SNOW on the ground trails are still FAIR to GOOD.

No grooming overnight.

SNOW is soft during the day when temps rise.  Crusty in the mornings with temps going down to the low 20’s. Starting tomorrow the temps overnight will be in the mid to low teens.  Forecast for no sun until mid next week during the day.  Plenty of SNOW to ride on with varying conditions.  In town SNOW is the softest.  Water at the edges of all road crossings.  The crossing just past Friendship House that takes you to the rec bridge along Hwy 45N is the worst where there is snirt.  Only place there is any in town but is sure is mushy but ridable everywhere.  Out of town going east is pretty good with downgrade between Loon Lake Rd to Bloom Rd & crossing the bridge near Boat Sport.  Otherwise GOOD riding.  North the same conditions.  West the area from the Town of Lincoln Townhall out a distance is downgraded as well.  Rest is pretty darn good.  On the high hill on Trail 70W icy & rough.  Take Trail 7 aka Paintball Field to Sugar Camp Trail 15 & on to the alternate 70’s to St. Germain OR head north on 13N taking 10W/13N toward Sayner.  As of this morning the Wisconsin River bridge is open.  Stay tuned for updates.  Note most road trails/routes are bare or low on snow. All in all what really surprised me was the lack of snirt at the crossing.

These important updates continue:

There is 1 logging operations going on where there is a need to use parts of the trails. Trail 13N by Deep Lake Rd. Plus utility work on 7 near Sugar Camp on the high line.

Even with the warm up the snowbanks at driveway crossing & road crossings are still high in some areas. Road crews are still out winging road banks.  There are some parts of trails that run along highways that could be have chunky snow on them from the road clearings.  10E is one.

EAGLE LAKE TRAIL & CATFISH LAKE TRAIL ARE MARKED & OPEN. Lakes are drifted & lots & lots of slush under & on top of the SNOW especially on Catfish Lake.  Moguls on Eagle Lake is much worse than on Catfish Lake.

The 2 one-way trail areas are 10E from the ERRA Sports Arena all the way out to Nicolet Mini Mart.  The other is the 13’s up near Buckatabon Bridge & Bauer’s Dam area.  Please be aware that for now signs will be buried in many locations.  PLEASE BE SURE TO CHECK A MAP SO YOU KNOW THE LOCATION OF THESE TRAILS.

Trails can & will remain open until midnight March 31 snow & conditions permitting.

Trail Report – : Sugar Camp, Wisconsin – March 13, 2019

Reporter:Matt Winters

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 12″+

Date of Report: March 13, 2019

Area Report:

Trails in sugar Camp are in good riding conditions. With warm weather & rain in the forecast the next few days trails & conditions will vary. You will probably encounter some water on the trails now especially in swampy areas & corners with high banks. Use caution coming to intersections as banks are very high yet  making it difficult to see along with signs. Lakes are still safe to cross & may be rough from drifting & high volumes of traffic. Stay close to orange barrels while crossing lakes. Remember trails can be open until March 31st weather permitting here so get out & ride the last few weeks of this great snowmobiling season. Always support a club & local businesses, united we trail divided we fail!

Trail Report – : Antigo/Langlade County, Wisconsin – March 13, 2019

Reporter:langlade

Trail Conditions: Poor

Snow Cover: 12-14

Date of Report: March 13, 2019

Area Report:

All public snowmobile trails in Langlade County opened on Wednesday, January 30, 2019, to snowmobilers and ATVers.  The trail between 54C and 53A will remain closed due to frequent truck traffic due to logging operations.  As of March 5, 2019, the trail between intersections 44 and 66 in the Jack Lake area is reopened.

Be prepared for the unexpected changing trail conditions as it has been raining and above freezing temperatures.  Trails may have standing water.  The forecast doesn’t look promising with more rain and warmer temperatures.  With warmer temperatures, trails will be soft and slushy. Use of trails is not advised to keep trails in good condition if weather permits.  If so, caution and reduced speed are advised.

Note that ATV’s are not allowed on snowmobile trails when the temperature is above 28° F. UTV’s are not allowed on the Langlade County Snowmobile trail system.

Trail Report – : Rhinelander, Wisconsin – March 13, 2019

Reporter:Hodag SnoTrails

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: Still over 2′ on the ground

Date of Report: March 13, 2019

Area Report:

The conditions are being moved from excellent to good just for the fact we haven’t been able to groom nightly with the warm temps, in addition to the condition of the lakes (could be slushy).

The overall trail base hasn’t been hurt in our area with the warm-up.  We haven’t seen much for snowmobile traffic during the warm-up.  As a result, the trail base is still very good.  The corners could become icy if the run-off freezes this weekend.

I haven’t heard anything regarding lake conditions.  There is plenty of ice, they just could be starting to slush up with the rain and melting snow base.

Be aware, trail crossings, road crossing intersection berms are still quite high that can affect sight lines.  Drive cautiously when approaching and traveling through them.

Season is coming to a close, time to get out and ride before the fun ends.

Trail Report – : Superior – Douglas County, Wisconsin – March 13, 2019

Reporter:nikky.farmakes

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 12+ inches, however, rain is in the forecast.

Date of Report: March 13, 2019

Area Report:

Rain is in the forecast, hoping the rain does not damage the trails too much before the weekend, will update on Friday.  Trail conditions will deteriorate through the week with the rain

SW Quadrant

Please be cautious with trail conditions as rain will be a factor and trail conditions will deteriorate through the week. Trail 9 is closed between the Town Road TT and the North Road.  Watch for signs on Trail 5 at the Beaver Brook crossing for rerouting around an ice issue.

SE Quadrant

Because of warm weather and rain, the Jack Pine Riders are planning to suspend operations over the next few days. As of March 12, all trails are open, groomed and in good shape. Most trails will be groomed again Friday after the rain.

*Please note – The CN Railroad is warning snowmobilers to stay off railroad property in Solon Springs. There is a new trail to Solon Springs (Trail 27B).  Where the trail meets Business Highway 53, snowmobilers must use the road shoulders and not the railroad property to access the railroad crossing on Main Street.  Snowmobilers have and will continue to be ticketed for operating on the railroad’s property.*

NE Quadrant

Please watch for low hanging brush and limbs.  Conditions are mostly good to excellent as there is still a lot of snow out there. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to get the conditions of the trails until after the rain stops, more details on Friday.

NW Quadrant

All trails are open except for Saunders Grade, which is closed for the season. All trails have been in good condition with a large amount of snow on the base, but the Amnicon Drift Dodgers are suspending operations until after the rainstorm and warm temperatures.

We rode Monday and trails were excellent, however it warmed up yesterday and it looks like a chance of rain starting Wednesday night through Thursday with a chance of snow Thursday night into Friday.  There is still a ton of snow still out there, but it is soft due to warm weather.  Today I would call our trails good, but stay tuned. If you’re planning a weekend trip up, I would still come up. Temperatures will be cooling a bit,  and a chance of snow Friday.  A big thank you to all of our groomers for doing such a great job this Winter!
