CROSS COUNTRY CRUISERS TRAIL REPORT FOR 12/20/2019

Greetings everyone from the beautiful Northwoods.

The season is kicking off with good to exceptional riding with a few exceptions.
All trails have been rolled and groomed except the SWAMP areas.

These have been packed by sleds and at this time we cannot get the grooming
equipment into these areas. Sleds will have to pass through and pack these areas down more over the next week. By then we should be able to groom those areas.

Heads up as we have Logging Operations going on which have closed a portion of our trails. This is on Vandercook Rd from where Trail 6 & 3 meet (TIN 349) all the way to where trail 3 & 10 cross (TIN 354). Do not take your sled through this area! We have it marked so stay out of there.

Trail 6 from Vandercook EAST towards SAYNER is also closed due to Logging.

Trilby Rd on east side of Highway 51 is a SHARED TRAIL. There is logging operations going on and you will encounter Log Trucks! Please use caution. It has been plowed but not groomed.

Bearskin South from Minocqua has a detour at Lakewood Rd. You go left 250ft right to Goodnow Rd., 400-500ft and back onto the Bearskin. This is all signed. Pay attention. The grade was closed due to structural reasons.

There is a new Bypass crossing 70 towards Slo’s by the Landscaper. You cannot go down his driveway. There is a detour that runs through the Campground and this is all signed. Again, pay attention.

Trail Boss Terry Pare would like to thank everyone that pitched in and helped clear all the downed trees from the trails over the past few weeks, and groom them into shape.

Ride Right, Ride Safe! Enjoy.
WE DO NOT WANT YOU TO BECOME A STATISTIC.
RIGHT NOW WE HAVE ANYWHERE FROM 20-25 INCHES OF SNOW ON THE GROUND.
TRAILS SHOULD BE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION TO START OFF.
WATCH OUT FOR FALLEN BRANCHES. WE’VE DONE OUR BEST TO CLEAN UP AND HAVE PASSED INSPECTION BUT SOME COULD STILL FALL.
ENJOY THE SEASON!

Be Safe! Do not Drink and Ride. Ride Right!

Reporter:tpeters

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 18″ to 30″

Date of Report: December 24, 2019

Area Report:

Merry Christmas to everyone.  Trails in the Houghton/Hancock/Keweenaw are still in good shape, even with the warm weather.  We had a ton of snow before the warm weather, so we have lost some snow, but the base is there and packed and the groomers are still out on all trails.  Of course, there will be some moguls where there has been a lot of traffic.  It is thin along some of the lakeshore in the Keweenaw Peninsula.    The mat and snow are down under the bridge, do not cross on the canal.  It is not safe anywhere.  There is a reroute on Trail 133 around the stamp sands in Gay that is open and the Mandan Trail portion of Trail 134 is now open.  Trail 3 from Dollar Bay to Lake Linden and the entire Freda Loop (Trails 120 & 121) will be closed the whole season for repair.  Nights are cool and trails that are soft during the day, are setting up nice at night.  Watch the corners in case of some ice.  Look forward to seeing everyone out on the trails!!

Please stay off all ice in the area, none of it is safe.  Respect others on the trails and private property.  Don’t be the idiots that ruin it for the others.  Slow down, there is no reason to be going 100.  Save the drinking for after the riding.  Stay safe!

Winter Snowmobile and All-Season Trails (As of 12/23/2019)

Please note – due to the Holiday, we will not have another report until the 26th. The clubs and the Douglas County Forestry Department are actively on clearing trees and where possible packing the trail base and grooming. Many trails are still closed as we wait for the underlying wet areas to freeze. PLEASE check the trail you intend to use is open and do not trespass on private property. It is critical that we respect the landowners who allow us to utilize their property.  It just takes one owner to deny the use of their land for a trail to be permanently shut down, so please be courteous and wait for the trails to officially open. Currently, 80% of Douglas County Trails are open.  Deer have been reported on trails, so please keep an eye out.

Hi Everyone, the only new news to report is that our clubs are busy finishing up marking/ inspecting trails.  Our weather we currently have now although not favorable to snowmobiling has allowed many of our farmers to finish up harvesting and given us the opportunity to get out and finish marking the trails.   Hopefully by the new year we have everything marked and ready to go.  Then you can start doing your cold and snow dance!  As for right now it looks like the warm weather will stick around for another week or maybe more.  Anyone interested in joining a club please visit our website at walworthcountysnow.com or our Facebook page.  Thank you and Happy Holidays!
