Groomer Report

Overall Story:

Monday 12/23 12:00 pm CST:   DON’T FEAR THE HEAT!  Yes – it was 45 degrees yesterday.  Trails remain in very good to excellent condition system wide!  There is just so much snow on the trails it’ll take a lot of melting & rain to start making us nervous.  Our entire system has been groomed each night since last week Wednesday.  Trail 160 is now open!  Temps don’t look to be nearly as warm as last weekend and that is good.  Post Christmas riding should be the best it’s been in many, many years.

WARNINGS AND NOTICES:   We continue to see a spike in off trail riding issues.  We had riders nearly cause a HAZMAT event by running over a Oil/Fuel distributors fill lines.  We had riders hit fences and take out fence posts a LONG ways away from trails.  We are begging riders, there is 1-million acres of public land east of Wakefield to off trail ride on – please save it for legal areas!

Trail 2 from Hurley to Ramsay US-2 Crossing:

Overall rating:  Very Good

Last groomed 12/23/19.    Please do not ride on sidewalks near Holiday and try to keep noise down in town.

Trail 2 from Ramsay Crossing to Wakefield:

Overall rating:  GOOD

Last groomed 12/23/19.  The entire stretch is in excellent condition!  Featuring a brand new section to enjoy this season, the club eliminated Prospect road route and moved the trail completely into the woods eliminating 1.5 miles of road route.  PLEASE STAY ON THE TRAIL AND RESPECT THESE LANDOWNERS!

Trail 2 from Wakefield to Marenisco:

Overall Rating: Very Good

Last groomed 12/23/19.  There is logging 4 miles east of Wakefield.  Please yield to logging traffic, they are working and you are playing!

Trail 8 from Wakefield to Tula Crossing:

Overall Rating:  Very Good

Last groomed 12/23/19.  Tremendous snow depth on this trail.  It is an unplowed county road and is a treat to ride!

Trail 160 from Walmart to Montreal River (WI):

Overall Rating:  OPEN – GOOD TO VERY GOOD

The trail was opened Saturday 12/21.  STAY ON THE TRAIL!!!!!!   This is our most scenic trail and is a treat to ride!  There are several scenic vistas on the trail such as Bald Mountain “NORTH” lookout viewing Madeline Island/ mouth of the Chequamegon Bay of Lake Superior,  the Bald Mountain “SOUTH” lookout viewing Gogebic Range (Powderhorn, Copper Peak), the Montreal River Gorge look out and finally the amazing Superior Falls Waterfall Complex.  Stay on the trail in the farm fields.  Over 25 landowners are involved to make this trail a reality, please respect them and ride responsibly.

11S (Wakefield, MI to Winchester, WI):

Overall Rating:  CLOSED

CLOSED FOR THE SEASON DUE TO LOGGING OPERATIONS THAT THE CLUB WAS UNABLE TO FIND A REROUTE AROUND.

11N (Wakefield, MI to South boundary Rd/White Pine):  Closed indefinitely.  Seeking local community support with ideas on how to reopen it.  200 yards of private property closed this 25 mile trail.

Gogebic Area Grooming  12/26/19

Lake Gogebic Area is experiencing a bit of a warm-up after our Christmas holiday – but looks like 12/26 is the worst and temps drop back below freezing on Friday and there’s a big storm coming in on Saturday.    We’ve received so much snow that a little melt is ok – as it will help to compress some of the snow on the trails as well as the lake and with colder temps on the horizon –  that will help firm wet spots and help ice conditions.    Gogebic Area Groomers report good overall conditions and were out over Christmas filling in some of the wet problem areas on our trails and will be out nightly when temps are below 30 degrees.   There are some areas where water it showing – but the cold temps will help out.

Trail 1N:   Good to excellent.   White Pine to Silver City is fair with a couple wet spots appearing with the warm temps.   There is a bridge out in Silver City, but you can carefully navigate around.  Lake of the clouds is excellent and groomed last night.

Trail 1S:  crews were out brushing and signing and got the trail opened up.    They made snow bridges – just use caution with our warm temps today.

Trail 1S from Trail 100 to Trail 8: Closed until further notice as logging is taking place until the end of December.

Trail 8 West:   Groomers were out filling in wet spots over Christmas – use caution.

Trail 8 East:   Gets thin past Ewen.  There are 2 logging areas on Trail 3 North between trail 2 and 8.  (near Bond Falls Area)

Trails 13 North:  good condition.

Trails 13 South All trails on South end are reporting good.

    • Past the Root Cellar, there is more logging. You will have to travel on East Shore Rd approximately 2 mile further then before to get back onto trail 13. A new reroute will take place. Please follow the signs marked 13. (Permanent Re-Route for the 2019-2020 Season).

Trail 102 (South Boundary Road) is in excellent shape and groomed last night.  There is a new reroute about 4 miles before trail 11. The trail is marked well and the reroute was a very nice turn out. (Temporary Re-Route)

Trail 100: Logging is happening between Stagecoach Rd and the Slate River (very end of Lake Gogebic) Marshall Creek Bridge has been fixed so you can get to Marenisco from trail 100. (Permanent for 2019-2020 season)

Please stay on the trails, respect private property, do not drink and drive, and above all else, drive safely.   Be mindful that there are a lot of families and kids on the trails this week.  The signs on the trails are there for rider’s safety so please DO NOT remove or destroy them.

Trail Report – : Spooner and Washburn County, Wisconsin – December 26, 2019

Reporter:Washburn County

Trail Conditions: Open

Snow Cover: 6 – 15

Date of Report: December 26, 2019

Area Report:

Most Washburn County Snowmobile Trails are open at this time with a base of 6 to 15 inches providing good riding conditions. Washburn County trail clubs have been working hard to provide as much riding opportunity as possible for the holidays. Trail #34 near the Barron County line is closed at this time. All other Washburn County Snowmobile trails are open.

Please note that lake ice is not safe at this time, including Long Lake and the Spider Lake Chain. Swamps and wet areas on the trail system are generally frozen now. However, caution is advised as many of these wet areas will have rough ice crossings. Some wet areas will not have been groomed with heavy equipment yet. Also, please be aware that constant trail grooming will be occurring throughout the holiday week.

Trail Report – : Rhinelander, Wisconsin – December 26, 2019

Reporter:Hodag SnoTrails

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: 8-12″ of snow in the woods

Date of Report: December 26, 2019

Area Report:

This warm-up is not helping the trail system.  There is still plenty of snow on the trails.  There are a few wet areas that haven’t froze up tight, but they are not to the point of sleds getting stuck.  All land based trails within the Hodag SnoTrails system are now open.  The trails have all been packed with the machines.  We are waiting for the some more cold weather before they will be out with the drags.

The majority of the lakes have not been marked at this point.  We are not recommending crossing any bodies of water until they are marked.

You can get out and ride, just know where you are going and be aware of the stated conditions.

Area Report:

Trail report for December 25, 2019 – Overall good for early season riding. We have had a lot of traffic on our trails during this holiday season. Our groomers have been out Christmas eve and Christmas day working to make the trails better for you. A big Thank You goes out to them for their outstanding work. The trails are starting to get some moisture and are beginning to pack down with the warmer temps, but we really need some subzero temps to stiffen them up and make them solid. The forecast is not in our favor and looks like we will have continued warm weather in the 30’s for the next few days. Pray for snow and cold weather. Please use extreme caution in all areas! Stay on marked trails!  Remember to be safe, ride right, and enjoy the ride. Merry Christmas to everyone!

Ashland County Snowmobile Report December 26, 2019
Ashland County trails are reported at this time in poor condition.  The groomers are still trying to get through the trails.  Down trees, deep snow and the warm temps are making this difficult.  Be cautious in the swampy areas for standing water.  Please bear with us and STAY ON THE TRAILS.  Be respectful of the farmers land! Stay on trail, as much of the Ashland County snowmobile trail system uses private property and could be lost if the property owners experiences issues. The most common complaints are snowmobiles not staying on trails or going off into fields that are not part of the trail, and loud noise from non-stock muffler systems. Respect the trail system so that it remains open. The Tri-county corridor is open.  Click here for Bayfield County Trail conditions.  .

Area Report:

The trails will be getting busier beginning today so the end of this warmer dreary weather will be welcomed. Trails are holding up well and there is snow? in the forecast. We would be happy with colder nights at least to allow our grooming operations to hold up longer. Looking good for now and it could get even better if Mother Nature cooperates.

CROSS COUNTRY CRUISERS TRAIL REPORT FOR 12/20/2019

Greetings everyone from the beautiful Northwoods.

The season is kicking off with good to exceptional riding with a few exceptions.
All trails have been rolled and groomed except the SWAMP areas.

These have been packed by sleds and at this time we cannot get the grooming
equipment into these areas. Sleds will have to pass through and pack these areas down more over the next week. By then we should be able to groom those areas.

Heads up as we have Logging Operations going on which have closed a portion of our trails. This is on Vandercook Rd from where Trail 6 & 3 meet (TIN 349) all the way to where trail 3 & 10 cross (TIN 354). Do not take your sled through this area! We have it marked so stay out of there.

Trail 6 from Vandercook EAST towards SAYNER is also closed due to Logging.

Trilby Rd on east side of Highway 51 is a SHARED TRAIL. There is logging operations going on and you will encounter Log Trucks! Please use caution. It has been plowed but not groomed.

Bearskin South from Minocqua has a detour at Lakewood Rd. You go left 250ft right to Goodnow Rd., 400-500ft and back onto the Bearskin. This is all signed. Pay attention. The grade was closed due to structural reasons.

There is a new Bypass crossing 70 towards Slo’s by the Landscaper. You cannot go down his driveway. There is a detour that runs through the Campground and this is all signed. Again, pay attention.

Trail Boss Terry Pare would like to thank everyone that pitched in and helped clear all the downed trees from the trails over the past few weeks, and groom them into shape.

Ride Right, Ride Safe! Enjoy.
WE DO NOT WANT YOU TO BECOME A STATISTIC.
RIGHT NOW WE HAVE ANYWHERE FROM 20-25 INCHES OF SNOW ON THE GROUND.
TRAILS SHOULD BE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION TO START OFF.
WATCH OUT FOR FALLEN BRANCHES. WE’VE DONE OUR BEST TO CLEAN UP AND HAVE PASSED INSPECTION BUT SOME COULD STILL FALL.
ENJOY THE SEASON!

Be Safe! Do not Drink and Ride. Ride Right!
