January 29, 2020 – 6:37am 16 degrees & cloudy

SNOWMOBILE TRAILS IN EAGLE RIVER
Plenty of SNOW with Varying conditions

1-25-20 sledders at Cenex

Winter continues in Eagle River & all of Vilas County with 20-30 inches SNOW on the ground & the trails. A little Lake Effect Snow yesterday afternoon. The next 3 days will be cloudy with highs in the 20’s & lows in the teen or less. Not much new SNOW in the forecast. Are you DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE?

Because Groomer Tracking System shows nearly all trails were groomed last will list the trails NOT groomed below:

Alt13 aka 3 “the grade” from 10E intersection to Three Lakes turn around
Section of Trail 7 aka Paintball field that runs along Hwy H near Kathan Inn & Sugar Camp connect
GranpaGrahm aka 1
Trail 1N to Columbus Rd
Uncle Kent trail

Catfish & Eagle Lake trails are marked. No reports of surface slush. Please stay by the orange reflective barrels.

Caution Areas

Not much change & in general found trails sections especially in swamps have rough areas. Covered with plenty of snow but the bumps have set in the base & it is hard to correct.

Manske Swamp was groomed over night but is rough
Sections on 13N beyond Hwy G has improved
Loon Lk Rd to Bloom Rd section of 10E rough
section of 17N from trail 1 to Columbus Rd very rough
70W section from Sundstein Rd running past the Lincoln Townhall heading west to Synergy rough sections
17S from Paintball field trail 7 to Sugar Camp connect.

Area Report:

It’s a chilly 7 degrees at 6:00 a.m. this morning with highs expected to reach the mid 20’s this afternoon. We have picked up some light snow and drizzle the past 3 days. Trails are groomed and possible the best shape of the year. All trails are open and great riding can be found. Warmer temperatures are in the forecast for this weekend with a chance of some light snow showers or flurries. Winter Snowmobile and All-Season Trails (As of 1/28/2020)

Currently, ALL of Douglas County trails are open. Douglas County has received more snow in the last few days! Please note, deer have been reported on trails, so please keep an eye out while traveling.

PLEASE check the trail you intend to use is open and do not trespass on private property. It is critical that we respect the landowners who allow us to utilize their property. It just takes one owner to deny the use of their land for a trail to be permanently shut down, so please be courteous and wait for the trails to officially open.

The following all-season trails are currently open to ATV, UTV, and Snowmobiles:

Most trails are in very good condition with a good base. All trails have been groomed except Trail 635 and the return trip from Poplar to Hawthorne on 4. Trail 235 has some large ice chunks through the Box Cuvert under the freeway and is a little bumpy. Watch for logging on Trail 6 and Trail 4.

NW Quadrant

Open Trails:
Gandy Dancer Trail – Grooming scheduled for 1/29 (watch for deer crossing between Moen Road and County Road BB)
Saunders Grade Trail – Groomed

Cross Country Ski Trails (As of 1/28/2020)

Douglas County Ski Trails – The ski trails have been groomed and are in good condition!

Superior Municipal Forest – All trails are groomed and tracked. Trails are in very good to excellent condition!

Pattison State Park – All trails were groomed and tracked on 1/9/2020. Conditions are excellent with full track depth on the Overlook and Oak Ridge Trails. The Riverview Trail has full track depth for most of the trail, except for a few areas that have an uneven base. Please watch out for some debris scattered in areas from the windy conditions. (Last Updated on 1/11, no updated information at this time.)

Brule River After Hours Trail – All trails are groomed and tracked. Conditions are excellent!

The trails have a fabulous base and lots of snow, the lakes have good ice and now in the last week with the new snow falls there is snow on the lakes! What else to report other than it’s excellent out there!

if you’re on a trail and you find it to be rough it is more than likely due to being a heavily traveled trail and it’s not due to neglect by a groomer. Sawyer County is pretty spectacular with their system and how they divide their trails between clubs evenly and log their hours, we want to be able to groom as the logged hours are what assist the county in funding for the trails so they are out there all the time! But if you do encounter a trail condition you find needs attention please let us know, it so easy to do! Just pop on sawyercountyalliance.com and on the right side you will see Report a Trail Issue and you can enter the info, it’s that easy! That gets sent to the appropriate area where it gets promptly reported to the trail captain of that section. We always appreciate the extra set of eyes out there!

Speaking of grooming there is a trail update for trail 6 from Ojibwa to Airborne Rd is still closed and the detour is still in place. The crew did remove some down trees and determined grooming could resume from Airborne Rd to the dam.

Lake Hayward is now staked all the way across.

Surrounding counties are open and excellent as well.

Ashland County Snowmobile Report January 28, 2020

Ashland County trails are open, groomed and in excellent CONDITION. There is a temporarily closed trail in Marengo but there is a detour there which is well posted!! And trail 77 in Cayuga is detoured and very well posted.

Mellen/Glidden: 1/20/2020: All trails are open and are Groomed and in Excellent condition !!! There is a section of trail 13 & 77 that are closed and detoured for logging operations. John Westfahl, President Penokee Mountain Range Riders.

Trail Report – : Rhinelander, Wisconsin – January 28, 2020

Area Report:

The trails continue to be in good to very good condition. The only reason they are not marked is excellent is due to the slush on the lakes and we have been down a groomer for the last 3 weeks, so we haven’t been able to keep our schedule like normal. Good news!! the other groomer should be up and running this week. The other two groomers have been doing double runs to maintain the trails. Big thank you to the drivers and support guys for keeping the rigs up and running during this time.

The lakes are showing some slush, so be aware of that when crossing. The closer the sleds stay to the barrels the more likely the slush will freeze up and be a better route in the future.

Half of boom lake has been marked at this point. The remaining section “north end” won’t be marked until the ice conditions improve.

Get out and ride…no excuses. Trails are great overall.

Official Trail Report: All Washburn County Snowmobile Trails are open at this time. Trail conditions are excellent with a 9 to 16 inch compacted snow base. Enjoy the trails!

Groomer Notes:

1/24/20 – Trail 39s/235 were groomed today and are in very good condition. (Submitted by Rolling Hills Snowmobile & ATV Club)

1/15/20 – Trail 140W – 7A was groomed todays and is in very condition. (Submitted by Rolling Hills Snowmobile & ATV Club)

1/14/20 – Trail 4-6 was groomed today. All swamps were groomed for the first time. The trails are in very good shape other than part that was groomed for the first time which is still rather bumpy. (Submitted by Rolling Hills Snowmobile & ATV Club)

1/11/20 – Long Lake was staked as of Monday, January 6th with ice depths coming in anywhere from 6″ to 10.5″ on the marked trail. (Off the trail ice depths ranged anywhere from 4″ to 10.5″) The Lake Trail was groomed for the 1st time ever on Wednesday, January 8th. Please note there is a large ice heave that cuts across the trail just North of The Pioneer. As always use caution on ice! Additionally, Spider Lake & Chetac lakes are now also marked. SNOWMOBILE TRAILS IN EAGLE RIVER
Varying conditions
1-25-20 sledders at Cenex

Plenty of SNOW on the the trails & cold temps overnight. Great combination to get the trails back in shape after a very busy weekend. It’s 16 degrees right now with a high of 24 today & 12 tonight. Low nighttime temps for the next few days. And no evil sun.

The weather guys show a slight chance of SNOW flurries off & on this week. Next change of SNOW is next Monday. Stay tuned.

Groomer Tracking System shows nearly all trails were groomed west & north in the last 24. Below are the trails NOT groomed over night:

Trails heading east including 10E, Chanticleer Inn, GrampGrahm, 9MI
Trail 1 from Eagle Lake boat launch to the 17N & 1 intersection
Trail 1 to Columbus Rd
Small section of 17N that connects to 1- did groom 17N to Manske Swamp aka 3N intersection
Uncle Kent trail
Some section of 13N heading to Bauer’s Dam turn around

Grooming has started back up with colder temperatures last night. All trails were groomed last night . Cloudy weather is predicted most of this week with highs in the upper 21’s and lows in the mid teens. The best chance for more snow is Friday. The temperatures are perfect for riding and the new snow last week will help keep our trails in good to excellent condition. Trail Report – : Tomahawk, Wisconsin – January 27, 2020

Area Report:

All Lincoln County funded snowmobile trails in Zone 1,2,3,and 4 are OPEN , with one exception: Corridor 19 remains closed from Intersection #25 (near Spirit Falls) to Intersection #33.

Clubs report the X Trail crossing Lake Alexander near Merrill is not signed and is closed.

Most trails are on good to excellent condition depending on the area. However some trails are still in early season condition and may be rough and icy in some areas.

Stay on marked trails!! It cannot be emphasize enough to stay on the marked trails!!

All trails are closed to winter ATV use when the temperature is above 28 degrees F.

Be aware of Trail Closed signs, stay on marked trails only and respect private land.
