Winter Snowmobile and All-Season Trails (As of 12/20/2019)

The clubs and the Douglas County Forestry Department are actively on clearing trees and where possible packing the trail base and grooming. Many trails are still closed as we wait for the underlying wet areas to freeze. PLEASE check the trail you intend to use is open and do not trespass on private property. It is critical that we respect the landowners who allow us to utilize their property.  It just takes one owner to deny the use of their land for a trail to be permanently shut down, so please be courteous and wait for the trails to officially open. Currently, 75% of Douglas County Trails are open.

Also a portion of trail 12 will be closed as the swamps behind the cemetery are still open water. The last I heard Buckatobon and pioneer were still not marked and unsafe but North Twin is marked. Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: 24-30 inches

Date of Report: December 20, 2019

Area Report:

Vilas County Snowmobile Trails opened today (December 20) at 8:00am.  All trails in the Boulder Junction Trail System have been panned and are just starting to create a base. We are happy to report that the trails are in EXCELLENT early season riding condition.

I would like to thank everyone involved for their hard work in making it possible for the trail system to be opening. There were a lot of downed trees and limbs on the trail.  Please use extreme CAUTION! Some areas have ruts. With the large amounts of snow we’ve had in the last few weeks, hazards and debris can be on the trail.

The swamps and boggy areas in the trail system are still freezing up. Please stay on the marked trails. Be careful! Keep thinking snow and cold to hold and improve our conditions as we head into the season. Remember be safe, ride right, and enjoy the ride!
