Although our snowmobile trails don’t officially close – grooming operations have ceased and clubs will gradually pull all lake stakes over the next week or so. Some lakes are still frozen solid and good to ride, while others like the Chippewa Flowage will have open water areas. The trails in the woods still have a good base to ride, but nothing will be groomed from this point forward. Please exercise caution if you choose to ride late-season.

Snowmobile Information:

Good morning on this 28th day of March. This second-to-last trail report of the 2022-23 snowmobile season goes like this…
Conditions greatly vary from North to South in our trail area as do the differences between trails in the woods and those in full sun. The pictures below are representative of this. Plowed road sections are basically void of any mat left, yet wooded areas still have good base and loose snow. Many businesses are now closed. Logging has pushed ahead in a few areas on trails 8, 17, and 15. Use caution and plan accordingly. These late season rides are all a gift that we are proud to offer you. Remember, this all started in early December with a little snow, great volunteers, awesome land owners, and some big White Thunder Rider rollers

Boulder Junction Snowmobile Club Trail Report – Monday, 3/27/2023

At 8:00 a.m. it’s 15 degrees out with sunny skies and a high of 40 degrees for today.
We last groomed on Wednesday 3/22 and we are finished grooming for the year.
Our trails are still open, but getting to them might be tough. The town road route, all road
crossings, logging areas, and areas exposed to the sun are bare. Once you get out into the
woods they are rideable yet.
Oneida County trails close today at noon. Vilas County is having a vote today as to leaving the
trails open until Friday or shutting them down sooner.
Check in Wednesday, 3/29 for our final trail report of the year including a recap of our season.

Snowmobile Report – March 27, 2023
Ashland County snowmobile trails remain OPEN and in Good to Excellent condition!  Trails close March 30th.  Groomers in Ashland County continue to be out working on the trails. Slow down, stay right and be prepared for icy corners, hills, intersections and changing snow conditions.  There is still ice underneath this fresh snow and snow drifts in areas so please BE CAREFUL!  Logging continues on Trail 8 from Parker Rd to White Bass Road.  Please use caution and ride safe.  Only 200 feet of trail will be dozed on each side.  Detour has been posted on Trail 12.  Be aware of more traffic in that area due to logging in progress.  Area affectied is by Agenda Rd and Blueberry Rd.  Enjoy your ride and stay safe!

Please stay on the trail.  A lot of Ashland County snowmobile trails are on farmers land, please be respectful so we don’t lose our easement to their property. Snowmobiles may not be modified, or operated, to amplify or otherwise increase the total vehicle noise above the originally manufactured snowmobile noise level.

As always please follow the snowmobile trail rules and regulations

As always operate with everyone’s safety in mind and report any hazardous trail issues that are observed to the Ashland County Sheriff’s Department (715-682-7023 opt 1) so that it can be forwarded to the appropriate service.

The Tri-County Corridor is open from Superior to Ashland. There are still several areas on the eastern end that require attention but all known hazards have been identified and marked. Use caution when approaching ribbons, barricades, and cones.

Important reminders: There is no snowmobiling allowed from Ashland to Bad River/Odanah as snowmobiling is not permitted on reservation land.  However, snowmobiling is allowed from Bad River east to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

If you would like to receive an Ashland County Snowmobile map, let us know and we will mail one out to you! Call us at 715/682-2500 or email us fdchamber@visitashland.com.
