Area Report:

Grooming is under way tonight. Most trails are in great condition. Trail 6 east of Phelps is detoured due to water and soft conditions between Boot Lake road and Shooting Range road. Please follow the marked detour route. Once these areas freeze up, we will be back on the normal trail and hopefully be grooming through that and other wetland areas. Some cooler weather and a little more snow are in the forecast. Enjoy your time here in Phelps and ride safe.

Trail Report – : Rhinelander, Wisconsin – January 4, 2020

Reporter:Hodag SnoTrails

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: plenty of trail base

Date of Report: January 4, 2020

Area Report:

The trails are slowly getting better.  The club has spent countless hours brushing and grooming (where possible) since the recent snow.  The club is still working on getting the groomer that got stuck in a swamp back up and running.  The other two groomers are out on extended runs to get as much groomed as possible.  We have approximately 65% of the trails groomed.  There have been daily efforts to fill in the few remaining wet areas.  All of the wet areas can be avoided with sleds, but groomer travel is still risky in some areas.

Most of the lakes are not marked yet.  Hopefully, this condition can changed in the near future.  Any unmarked lake should be considered unsafe.

There is also some low hanging branches from the recent snowfall.

Have some patience and the trails will be top notch in time.   The trails east and south of town are all groomed and are in good condition.

Reminder!
The Lakes are not Cruiser Trails and are marked by private business owners. You are doing so at your own risk. The only marked lake we know of is Big Arbor Vitae.
Cross Country Cruisers Trail Report 01/03/2020

Grooming has been going on early morning and nightly.

We are trying our hardest to keep the moguls cut. It seems like a never ending battle.

There are bare spots on Pope’s Run.

The logging operations continue and the map we posted earlier with closures east of Hwy 51 still are in place. Trail 3/6 at 17 are closed and you cannot ride 6 to Sayner without taking a longer route. Trail 17 east of Hwy 51 up until trail 3/6 are shared with loggers. Watch out for trucks.
The Bearskin Trail has a detour south of Minocqua with signs out. Pay attention and follow the detours!

The only marked lake in our area is Big Arbor Vitae, marked by Slo’s Pub, not the Cruisers.

I do not know the conditions out on the ice. Please stay as close to the markers if you do go out there.

STAY ON MARKED TRAILS!

PLEASE turn off your high-beams when approaching a groomer, it is blinding the operators. Have fun and ride right, safe and smart!

The map shows the closed areas of Cruiser Trails due to logging.

Trail Report – : Spooner and Washburn County, Wisconsin – January 4, 2020

Reporter:Washburn County

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 6-10

Date of Report: January 4, 2020

Area Report:

All Washburn County Snowmobile Trails are open at this time. Trail conditions are fair with a  6 to 12 inch compacted snow base. It has been a difficult year for snowmobile trail maintenance; but our local clubs are doing the best they can to get the trails in good riding conditions. Significant warm temperatures and rain over the past weekend has been followed by 3 to 7 inches of new snow received on December 30th.

Caution is advised throughout the trail system. Lake ice is still not safe at this time, including Long Lake and the Spider Lake Chain. Swamps and wet areas on the trail system are likely to have standing water in places. Some wet areas will not have been groomed with heavy equipment yet. Also, please be aware that constant trail grooming will be occurring throughout the week. Many trails will not be freshly groomed on January 1st.

Update: Gate for Callahan is open and lake is staked, some stakes have fallen over from the warmth but gate is open and lake is staked.

Hello Riders!!

Quick unofficial update but just to keep you in the loops volunteer crews are out checking Round Lake and the Flowage right now! Sounds as though most of the flowage is being staked today and they have hopes with round but marshes and swamps are the hardest to freeze so they want to ensure they are safe. We will update as soon as those crews make it safely back.

Grooming has been done in the Seeley Hills and towards Nelson, 3/5 to Moose Lake and the trails in the Chequamegon between Hwy 77 and Moose Lake, 3/5 to Lost Land and trails along hwy 77 east of Hayward have all been groomed.

Thank you to all of those volunteers out staking and working on trails! Many are business owners and they are finding the time to sneak away from their businesses that all provide services to us riders to also do trail work! They are pulling double duties and are rock stars! Stay safe crews!

Keep checking back as we will continue to update!

Trail Report – : Bayfield County, Wisconsin – January 3, 2020

Reporter:BayfieldCounty

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 10-18 inches packed

Date of Report: January 3, 2020

Area Report:

The majority of trails in Bayfield County are in great condition! The late December rain and warmer temps are still affecting some sections of trail and riders should exercise caution when riding wet sections of trail.

Namakagon Trail Groomers: – We received around 4″ of fresh snow. Trails have a 10-12″ base. All trails were groomed on Tues & Wed (Dec. 31st and Jan 1st) with the exception of the marshes again. We have some standing water but sleds are getting through.

Barnes Barnestormers: We will have all our trails groomed by noon Friday with the exception of 31 south of Mulligan Creek Road. (We won’t go down there till there is more cold weather as there are some water holes on that section of trail) Our trails have a good base and are grooming out nicely, with no problem areas to speak of.

Gordon (Southwest corner of the county): Trail 17 south of Lower Eau Claire Lake to Highway 27 is closed due to open water. The rain and warm weather have not done us any good.

Drummond SnoJacks: All trails have been groomed with the exception of Trail 4 from Mason to Sanborn. That trail will be groomed tonight (1/2/2019) once the accumulated ice has thawed off of the drag. Trail 63 through the Bibon Swamp is passable but not groomed. The groomer driver reports no impassable areas but all trails have wet spots so use caution. The Trail 63 south detour is still in effect until conditions improve on Lake Owen. There is a decent sized water hole on Trail 63 between Grand View and Drummond, hoping it will freeze over with colder temps.

Frosty’s Vintage Riders: Groomer made it down Trail 4 as far as Frostys, good conditions. Frostys to mason ridable but water in many areas, ride with extreme caution. Trails 22,24 and 31 were groomed Monday and 17 miles of corridor groomed Tuesday, all reported to be in excellent condition. Trails 31, 3, and 66 to Port Wing is planned for grooming Friday.

Washburn Valhallers: We attempted to groom to Ashland yesterday (Jan 2nd) but were sinking in some areas more than we could groom.  Trail to Ashland is still rideable other than a 1-block section which is about 2-feet deep with water.  There is a ditch go around for now.  We will let things firm up and try to get out from Washburn to Valhalla area starting Monday. Out of Valhalla Trail 51 was groomed from Pub n Grub to Mountain road and is in excellent condition. Trails 63, 33 and 31 from the Corridor to Pub n Grub are also very good with 1 wet spot around Birch Grove Campground. Trails 19 and 41 to the Casino will be groomed on January 2nd.

South Shore (Port Wing, Herbster, Cornucopia): Groomed Trail 1 from Herbster to 51 and into Corny. still many wet spots but very good condition. Trail 41 and a section of 40 to Lenawee Rd is done also and very good. Still need brushing help on all sections though

WAINO (northwest corner of the county): Trail 1 from Jacks Hungry Trout Inn to State Hwy 13 was groomed yesterday January 1st. The trail is passable but use caution there are high water areas. After the high water areas have time to freeze the trail will be in good shape. Groomed Trail 1 from Douglas county to highway 13 on Jan. 1st and is in good shape with a few wet areas that I’m sure have since froze. The Trask creek crossing was temporarily routed around the culvert and on to the road because of open water but that should be good to cross for the weekend.

Trail Report – : Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin – January 3, 2020

Reporter:Manitowish Waters Chamber

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 15-20 Inches

Date of Report: January 3, 2020

Area Report:

Our trails remain in fair/early season condition. We are grooming 6 nights a week, however Trail 6 from its junction with trail #2 to Winchester, remains closed. Some colder temps in the forecast should help us reopen that soon. A lot of clubs are experiencing the same issue: Swamp sections have opened up a bit. We are hearing that about trail 8 connecting MW to Mercer. Talk to your locals to find alternate routes.  We are hearing good things about riding south (Boulder Junction, Arbor Vitae). Be safe and don’t count on making long trips. Take your time, use your hand signals, stay on marked trails, respect the deer on the trails AND STAY OFF OF THE LAKES THEY ARE NOT SAFE.
