The trails are holding up pretty well. Tough going on some of the road routes and accessing gas stations but as a whole I am pleasantly surprised. Will be out riding with Dan Wagner and crew the next couple of days. A couple of inches of fresh snow would definitely be welcomed for lubrication and roads.

Trail Report – : Sugar Camp, Wisconsin – February 25, 2020

Area Report:

Trails are in excellent condition. The only exception of 15/17 between Hwy D and Hwy H is a little rough and corners are a bit icy. SC# 4 has a few short rough spots on the trail leading to the lake. The rest of our trails are in excellent condition. They have held up very well through the warm weather and heavy traffic. Be safe and have fun

Winter Snowmobile and All-Season Trails (As of 2/25/2020)

Currently, ALL of Douglas County trails are open. Trails are in good condition, icy in some areas with the recent warmer temperatures and subsequent cool down. Please note, deer have been reported on trails, so please keep an eye out while traveling.

PLEASE check the trail you intend to use is open and do not trespass on private property. It is critical that we respect the landowners who allow us to utilize their property. It just takes one owner to deny the use of their land for a trail to be permanently shut down, so please be courteous and wait for the trails to officially open.

In some areas, the grooming is coming out very chunky. Some high traffic areas have developed scattered icy corners. Groomers are avoiding the logging job between HWY D and Trail 24. Watch for logging on Trail 6 and Trail 4.

Cross Country Ski Trails (As of 2/25/2020)

Douglas County Ski Trails – The ski trails have been groomed on 2/19 and are in fair condition.

Superior Municipal Forest – Trails groomed, tracked, and touched up on 2/21. Overall trails are in good condition. Grooming will take place again on Saturday & Monday. Some of the classic tracks are absent from the beginning and there is some debris on the base. Overall in good condition.

Pattison State Park – Groomed and tracked 2/21 and are in excellent condition. Full track depth throughout, with 19 inches base over 24 inches of snow in the woods. Vehicle admission to the park is required. (Last updated on 2/21)

Brule River After Hours Trail – The skate lanes were freshened up on 2/24 and renovated most of the trail debris into the base. The classic track is still in good shape. Groomers are planning to reset the trails later in the week in preparation of the weekend once temperatures cool below freezing.

Trail Report – : Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin – February 25, 2020

Area Report:

Warm weather over the weekend softened the trails. Road crossings are getting bare. However there is still some good riding to be had. I rode up the grade Monday and out trail 10 to the “Sunken Horse” out on the Turtle Flambeau Flowage. Mercer and Manitowish Waters groomers had both been out late Sunday and early Monday morning. Trails were flat and in good condition. The grade up to Mercer was snow covered. Be careful going into corners as they are getting icy. Trail sections that share plowed roads took a hit. It’s a bit cooler today and a little overcast. A little snow would help freshen things up, but you can still get some miles on. It’s a great time of year to ride, less traffic, more daylight and some great scenery! Overall, I would call our trails fair to good in the woods.

❄️❄️Hurley Area Snow Report Tuesday February 25, 2020

After a weekend of warm temperatures throughout the area, White Thunder Riders have North Iron County Trails groomed. At this time, we have no reports of trouble spots. Road crossings are getting bare and corners are icy. The trails in the woods are holding up, temps are forecast to be in the teens through Friday and snow is in the forecast.

There is still some time to come up and ride, call today and make a reservation!

USE CAUTION ON THE LAKES AND FLOWAGES.

We have received multiple reports of “off trail riding”.

LISTEN — it’s pretty simple. Stay. On. The. Marked. Trail.

If you come upon a groomer WAIT for the groomer driver to come to a complete stop and signal for you to continue.

Be sure to support the local businesses that support the clubs —- you’ll know one right away with their current club membership certificate proudly displayed.

Show your appreciation by attending club events, not just ours but neighboring clubs as well. Remember “United we Trail, Divided we Fail”

Ashland County trails are still holding up and are in GOOD condition. There is a temporarily closed trail in Marengo but there is a detour there which is well posted!! And trail 77 in Cayuga is detoured and very well posted. Please stay on the trails!!!

Our trails are in good to very good shape.Most areas are groomed numerous times during the week.We still have a good base.Please watch for Icy spots and road crossings that are bare.Areas that get sun,will have ice/Bare spots.Unless we get an extended warm spell,we should have snow on the trails to last till the end of March.Remember,the right side is always Mine!

Despite the warmer weekend, our trails are still VERY GOOD, especially in the woods or trails that are sheltered. Trails along the roadway or open to the sun may have a few bare spots but will most likely be thin…you’re usually on these trails as an access to the better trails in the woods, so it should not impact your riding too much. The lake trails may have some icy corners and spots, be sure to stay on the marked trails. A more detailed report will be out later this week.

Area Report:

Trails are holding up better than expected with last weekend’s warm-up. We no doubt lost some trail base, but there is plenty of snow on the trails. Not even seeing much burn through on the wooded trails or corners at this point. We don’t have as much traffic as areas north, so the trail base is holding up. The lakes are froze tight and the slush is non-existent. They are in good shape.

Some points to be aware of:

The road routes are down to the pavement. They won’t have a significant effect on your ride quality in the big picture, but there will be scrapping of carbides and minimal lubrication to the slides. The roadway intersections are snirty and approaches will show dirt.

Grooming is continuing to be completed on a nightly basis (weather permitting).

Watch for icy corners as the season matures.

Get out and ride before the season is over…Good conditions heading into March!

Snowmobile Trails

Red Arrow Snowmobile ATV Club (Townsend) – 2/24/20

The trails really settled yesterday, and will deteriorate quickly if ridden hard but seem to be holding up well for the most part. The groomers did not go out last night because of the warm temperatures. The snow just balls up in the drags if it’s to warm. THE TRAILS WILL GET SOFT, SO DRIVE WITHIN YOUR ABILITIES!! We will resume grooming as soon as we can. Once we get Tuesday out of the way the temps are scheduled to drop throughout the week😍. The trails should remain fine in VERY GOOD RIDING CONDITION throughout our system, except between intersections 510 & 512, which I would rate as marginal riding condition,with much dirt starting to reappear. It is still an area to be cautious in with lots of hidden obstacles. Reach out into the wooded trails to seek out the VERY BEST the area has to offer

Paul Bunyan Riders Snowmobile Club (Lakewood) – 2/24/20

Trails were groomed last night. The tops of hills are starting to show dirt and the swamps are starting to break up. We will groom as long as we can

Chute Pond Snowmobile Club (Mountain) – 2/24/2020

Chute Pond Snowmobile Club trails are open, groomed on a regular basis, and in fair to very good condition. The warm weather has caused some bare/burned out spots, and the melting has caused some slushy/icy areas. Our team of groomers will continue to work the trails to keep them in the best condition possible. The season is not over- there are still many miles of great trails to ride- there are just some ugly spots here and there. Some fresh snow would help our situation, too.

NEW DETOUR: There is a new detour route from INT#447 that runs north and west and intersects with the 18 Corridor trail at Riverview Rd (see map- detour is shown in red). Thank you to the Towns of Mountain and Riverview for allowing the use of the unplowed town roads to complete this detour. The detour route is groomed and marked.

Exceptions (see map): Trails that will remain closed indefinitely are from INT#451-INT#453 (from east of Hwy 32 behind the Junction to Jack Pine Rd), and from INT#447 north to the 18 Corridor trail near Cooked Lake (the northern pipeline trail). DO NOT ride the closed trails- they have not been cleared from the July wind storms because the swamps are still wet and have not allowed equipment to get in to work on those areas yet. The closed areas are tangles of fallen trees in a swampy area- you don’t want to go there.

Cautions for the entire season: Be aware that any off-trail riding- even to take one ski off to “grab a little loose snow”- could be dangerous. The July wind storms have devastated many areas of our forested trails, and there are many trees and limbs on the ground just off the edges of the groomed trails. Please stay safe- stay on the groomed trails. Riders are urged to reduce speed and ride with extra caution, as the forest and the trails look very different since the storm. There are numerous logging operations that will be ongoing throughout the season. Please use extra caution in these areas. No Chute Pond trails cross any lakes or rivers- use extreme caution on all frozen surfaces. You are encouraged to carry a portable hand saw if possible, since limbs and branches continue to fall onto and over the trails. Please- ride sober, stay to the right, and stay on the marked trails.

Bagley & Brazeau Joyriders – 2/19/20

We received 6” to 8” of snow on Monday night, so we are grooming Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday if needed. The trails are good to excellent condition, we are grooming for the first time this year all the low areas and the marshes, and we are hoping all goes well out there. The groomer driver this when he groomed the Suring trail in the morning and on his way back the trail filled back up with snow from the wind, this is great for the trails. Have a safe ride and stay on the marked trails.

Gillett Sno ATV Riders – 2/24/20

With warmer weather the and no good snow in the near future we are going to have to close the spur off trails from the Nicolet State Trail. The corners in the trails that run through the fields are beginning to become mud puddles. The Nicolet State Trail will still be open from Shawano Line Road to Suring.

Oconto Falls Sno-Jokers – 2/20/20

Groomer will be out the morning of 2/21 finishing up grooming our trail system for the weekend. With the expected warm temps this weekend, please avoid spinning out from road crossings and in the corners. The riders following you would appreciate it.
