Trail Report – : Phelps, Wisconsin – December 17, 2020

Reporter:Phelps Snowmobile Club

Trail Conditions: Closed

Snow Cover: 2″-3″

Date of Report: December 17, 2020

Area Report:

Due to lack of snow, the Phelps trails are currently closed as well as all of Vilas County.  Cold weather is helping to freeze our swamps and lakes.  Please do not ride any lakes until they are marked.  Signing and brushing are completed and trails are just in need of snow.  The next 7 days has only Christmas eve as a possibility of snow.  Above average temperatures are expected through the weekend with a cool down by midweek.  This is the time when everyone needs to do their snow dance.

News and Reports:

The Phelps snowmobile club is planning club rides on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s starting in January.  Tuesday’s rides are all day rides (Appox. 100 miles meet at 9 a.m.) and Thursday’s are short rides (40-50 miles meet at 10 a.m.) targeting our local map sponsers.  Rides start downtown across from the post office.  Schedule to follow.

Trail Report – : Eagle River, Wisconsin – December 16, 2020

Reporter:Holly t

Trail Conditions: Closed

Snow Cover: Inch or two at most

Date of Report: December 16, 2020

Area Report:

Trails in Eagle River & All of Vilas County CLOSED

Very cold & clear this morning!  28 for a high today.  Cold night time temps are terrific for ice building & keeping the swamps frozen.  Now what we need is SNOW!!!! Weather guys reporting the best chance of SNOW next Wednesday.  Could see 3 inches.  Keep Doin’ the Snow Dance!

Vilas County Forestry, Recreation & Land department has completed 10 of the 11 snowmobile club inspections. Last inspection will be Friday.  Once all are done it’s a waiting game ’til the SNOW gets here.

A few updates on the trails:

Trail 13 that heads west of Eagle River has a re route in the section that comes out on Oak Lane by the Pine Gables Restaurant.  There is new construction going on so the club has done a temporary move over of the trail.  The club is working with the Vilas Forestry, Recreation and Land department to complete the permanent re route which will be in place for the 2021-2022 season.  If you are familiar with that trail rather than the 2 corners at the west end by Oak Lane it will go straight ahead.  TRAIL WILL BE OPEN.

Also the lake spur off of the Eagle Lake Trail that takes you to Eagle Waters Resort is back open!!!  The owner Laura Koranda & adjacent landowners worked hard to have this happen!

Let’s get a loud SNOW DANCE GOING!  Want to hear it way up here.  Can’t wait to see ya all out on the trails!

THINK COLD!

We have very little snow on the ground and nothing in the forecast. All our trails are marked and have been smoothed up with our new cultimulcher. When it snows plan to come out and ride our trails
