10W, 7, 10/13″grade” to 17N, alt13 to Three Lakes connect groomed

Off trail riding has become a problem throughout Vilas county.  What this is doing is jeopardizing trail easements & will cause trail section closures.  Please once again stay on marked trails.
Done preaching on to today’s report.

SNOW squalls yesterday.  Most looking like mix of Lake Effect Snow & regular Snow again. Just a skiff.  Next measurable SNOW is Sunday with a 50% chance. Weather guys not giving totals.  Are you Dancin’?

Trail 3N aka Manske Swamp has been closed.  Due to high water & off rail riding.  This trail is a cut across between 13N & 17N. It may reopen when it freezes backup.
No change in the land trails report.  Nearly all are SNOW covered with the new SNOW. With much of yesterday’s SNOW Lake Effect it will blow around. Under the SNOW we’ve gotten there is rough frozen snow, ice & gritty areas.  10E, 10W and the “grade” through town have the best riding.  It’s Adventure Sledding so expect all conditions to include poor.

Last Tuesday evening an off trail rider riding on Catfish lake lost his life.  He was no where near the barrels that are placed on Catfish & Eagle by businesses on those lakes. To include the spur to Eagle Waters. This was completely avoidable. Please stay by the markers to be safe. Entire lakes are NOT safe. Temps have dropped so that will freeze up any remaining surface slush

PLEASE REMEMBER WHILE VILAS COUNTY TRAILS ARE OPEN, ONEIDA & FOREST ARE NOT.  PLEASE DO NOT RIDE IN THOSE AREAS.  This includes Three Lakes, Sugar Camp & Newbold which are all in Oneida county.

KEEP THINKING COLD & DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE!

We do have early season type of conditions; some trails may not be groomed and lake ice conditions are not completely safe at this time. Clubs are out grooming, so please exercise caution and watch for active trail grooming and trail maintenance. Significant new snow is needed to provide for a good trail surface. Fingers crossed for a good snowfall to get the trails in great conditions!

Reported by the Long Lake Chamber of CommerceThe lake was groomed on January 8th from Pioneer south, up Gruenhagen with minimal issues, but as it headed into the narrows going north from Pioneer it ran into a lot of slush. The groomer did not want to risk grooming on unsafe ice. Volunteers will keep a eye on it and keep everyone posted!
