Condition (Poor, Fair, Good, Excellent): Good to Fair
Conditions on trails through the county have improved with grooming and a bit more snow. Good news is that the re-route to the Casino in Red Cliff is open, although it hasn’t been groomed yet. Plan is to groom it Friday. Part of the route utilizes right of way and is along private land so please respect landowners by staying on the groomed trail and following the signs.
The same trouble spots still remain:
Namakagon Trail Groomers: Our whole trail system was groomed Tuesday the 26th. Plan on grooming everything on Friday again. Trails are fair to good condition.
Barnes Barnestormers: Trails are mostly good with a few poor spots. 7-17 around town bare corners and hills. 17 Moore Rd is poor close to town. 18 is nice. 31 Is poor north of trail 18 intersection and south of 43 Rd is bad (logging be cautious). We are grooming everyday, however with the large volume of traffic we are seeing the trails get beat up in a hurry.
Drummond SnoJacks: Saturday night brought only 2″ of new snow so there’s still only a thin base on all trails. Trails 61,6 & 7 are reported to be in good to fair condition. Trail 63 north towards Grand View is reported good but road routes are not. Trail 63 south to Lake Owen is in fair condition but the railroad grade is reported bumpy. Grooming this week will improve trails and all will be groomed again before the weekend.
Iron River Area: Trails in the Iron River area are fairly good. Some rocks still surfacing on trail 31 between tri Lake Timbers and intersection of trail 63.Tri- County corridor continues to be in very good shape. All trails will be groomed this week with a thin packed surface.
Washburn Valhallers: Trail 63 North, from Moquah to 31, 33, and 35 around the Mt. Valhalla area remain groomed 2 times per week and are in good, rideable condition. With the lack of snow, we are finding it hard to fill in some of the ruts so use caution. There is active logging on Trail 1 and trail 31. Trail one the loggers are utilizing the snowmobile trail so be extremely cautious. Trail 13 from Valhalla to Washburn will be groomed later this week but is expected to be in fair, rideable condition. Trail 13 from Washburn to the Tri-County Corridor remains thin but rideable with a few thin spots.
South Shore– Port Wing, Herbster & Cornucopia: Trail 1 was groomed from Herbster into Corny and fair to bad close to the lake. Trails 40, 41 and Wally polk trail will be done 1/27 and 1/28 and remain in good to very good condition.
WAINO: Waino Riders groomed from 7 mile road to Evergreen road in Orienta Tuesday. The South portion of trail one will be done Wednesday. Very little snow near the big lake but the trail improves as riders go South.

Hello all,
Since Oneida Trails are opening tomorrow 1/26/21 at noon and we wanted to update you on the current Cruisers trails that have been open. Our trails are definitely still in early season conditions, even though the season is almost at the half way point. There is good news to report, we did get some much needed snow on Saturday 3-5” of light fluffy snow which has improved the conditions of the trails. However, we are still in need of a lot more snow to make the trails in good riding condition.
Trails are in Fair Condition, so please be very cautious as condition can change very rapidly.
Trail 5 along highway 51 is in poor condition,
Trails 11, 10, 17, 3, 6, and 47 are in fair to good condition.
There is a ton of logging operations going on out there and they have the right away. Please if you come across a plowed trail Slow Down!! We don’t want anyone to get hurt. Trails are marked where logging operations are going on. Please slow down and be respectful to the loggers, they are just doing their job! Sorry to report that we had to shut down a trail because of snowmobilers not obeying signs for the logging operations. The trails are now closed between 354 and 356. Please see map details.
Our grooming operations are underway on a regular daily grooming schedule. Thank you Groomers and Volunteers for all the time you put in on our trails.
Forest Riders reports there trails are fair to good shape right now, caution on the reroute on trail J as there are is one rough area that is a couple hundred feet and idle speed is recommended until we get more snow, Please ride safe and note that the trails are still in early season

Boulder Junction Trail Update 1/28/2021
As of this morning, all of our trail system has been groomed since yesterday afternoon.
I did a trail inspection of all our trails by snowmobile yesterday and overall they range from very good to fair.
Trail 15S from Boulder to the intersection of 15S/11 was good to fair with some brown stretches of trail. There were areas where gravel and rocks were exposed near Stevenson Creek. From the intersection of 15S/11, the trail was much better down to intersection of Corridor 10.
Trail 8E from the intersection of Trail 15 to the intersection of Trail 7 was fair to very good. The first stretch on Forest Road has improved but it is still thin until you reach Nixon Lake Road and then it is very good all the way to the Trail 7 intersection.
I returned back towards Boulder on Trail 6E which was very good on old Highway B but has some icy corners. On 6E north of Highway B it is fair, but improves once you cross back over to the south side of B back to the intersection of 15N, 15S, and 6E. Trail 15S back to Boulder was good to fair with some brown stretches of trail back to town.
Trail 2W going from Boulder to Manitowish was fair to good. The trail just west of Whitney Lake Road to Keego Lake road has improved paralleling Bear Lake Road. Once you hit Keego Lake Road it is very good all the way to Manitowish’ Trail 2 which is also good.
Trail 8W towards Manitowish Waters is thin but is fair to good with some icy corners and brown areas of trail. The Day Lake road portion of the trail is excellent.
If you are going to ride, please be careful, stay on the marked trails, and have a good time.
Trail advisory: If riding on the Boulder Junction airport spur trail, please stay on the edge of the runway parallel to the road in both directions. Damage has been done to the runway and if it continues, we could potentially lose access to this trail.
Think snow!

alt13S to Three Lakes,
Groomers were out last night grooming. Trails groomed are listed above. Suggest buying a Sno-Eagles trail map to help with location of trails. There are all sorts of conditions on the trails. Found them to be on average FAIR. Best riding is south to Three Lakes on alt13 & 10W due to more grooming. Next would be 10E from 10E/1S intersection(Dollar Lake Rd area) & east improving as you get way out east. Which has a bit more SNOW on it. All trails are open.
Off trail riding continues to be a problem throughout Vilas county. What this is doing is jeopardizing trail easements & will cause trail section closures. Please once again stay on marked trails.
Catfish & Eagle Lake trails are marked with orange reflective barrels. Please stay by the barrels to be safe. The lakes are marked by the businesses on the lake so stop in & thank them when you’re out riding.
ONEIDA COUNTY trails are now OPEN. As of yesterday’s report lakes are not marked yet. Sno-Eagles trails connect with the Three Lakes trails using 10E & alt13. Sugar Camp via 17S & 7 aka Paintball field trail.

Trails are still closed, there just isn’t enough good snow on the ground to safely open trails. Some clubs have been trying to roll and pan the light fluffy snow that we have in the county but that doesn’t mean it’s ok to ride the trails. Do your snow dance hopefully we get one of the these bigger storms that are supposed to be coming thru the Midwest!

All official Washburn County ATV trails are considered open to year round use, with the exception of the spring closure from April 1 through the first Friday before Memorial Weekend.
Most snowmobile trails, on Washburn County Forest lands, are open for motor vehicle use under 900 pounds from December 1 through April 1. This means that ATV’s are permitted on snowmobile trails that are not on private lands, during the winter months. UTV’s are allowed on these same trails ONLY during non-groomed conditions. New for the 2020 – 2021 snow season – the Washburn County portion of the Wild Rivers Trail and the rail grade to Shell Lake are now open for UTV use during snow groomed conditions. Please note that the April 1 closure is flexible; Trails may close earlier depending on conditions.
Land use agreements with private landowners for snowmobile trails do not permit the use of ATV’s at any time of the year.

We did get about 5″ of snow Monday night into Tuesday and the trails have a ton of snow on them, but there is drifting. We will let them sit till they get packed in some. We will start grooming on Friday so with the 1 to 3 we are suppose to get Sunday it should be excellent riding. I rode over 70 miles yesterday and they are very good with the Jane Addams being excellent. Now is the time to come up and enjoy the great trails we have in this area. The Baymont Inns & Suites in Freeport (815-656-4632) has a snowmobile rate at $76 per night just ask for the snowmobile rate,. They are on the groomed trail and only 1/2 mile from the Jane Addams. Hope to see you on the trails
