Trail Report – : Hayward / Sawyer County, Wisconsin – January 15, 2024

Reporter:haywardlakes

Trail Conditions: Closed

Snow Cover: 0-5

Date of Report: January 15, 2024

Area Report:

Trails remain closed, but just a quick update on lake ice conditions. Many lakes are freezing over as the temps drop but they need some time yet. Nelson Lake and Moose Lake have been staked, however we would highly advise to stay on the staked trail if you take a ride on the lake. Groomers are not out yet as swamps and lakes are making more ice. We will update more officially on Tuesday after a few days of the cold weather.

Snowmobile Information:

Looks like Friday’s storm gave us 3-5″ or so, depending on how optimistic you are, and who you fish with. Groomer Mike and I panned what we have tonight, and our trails look amazing, but we need snow. Odds are good we will stand down from grooming until we get more.

Reminder that this Saturday, January 20, is the Northern Hornshoe Santa raffle at Harrisons pub, located at 3160 Pokegama Lake Trail, in Lac du Flambeau. Fun starts at 1:00 P.M. Proceeds go to our Kubota Trail Groomer. Harrisons is the old Trailside located on trail 17 north of D. Bill and Joy have made an amazing rebuild out of the place. Look forward to seeing you.

Trail Conditions: Closed

Snow Cover: 0-4

Snowmobile Information:

It’s was a long, productive day for the White Thunder Rider crew. Conditions and snow totals vary throughout our trail system. 15″ on the high side by Oma and Saxon to 4″ near Lake Superior. The soft areas are not frozen, and seem to need breaking in order to freeze with these single-digit temps. Hopefully we get more snow in the days ahead to secure this base before traffic.  Trails remain CLOSED at this time.  Check back for regular updates!

Trail Report – : Conover, Wisconsin – January 13, 2024

Reporter:snobuddies

Trail Conditions: Closed

Snow Cover: 6”

Date of Report: January 13, 2024

Area Report:

So, we sent out both Tuckers to start panning trails. There were several trees that needed to be cleared, cut and moved off of trails. The 6” packed down to a 2” base. Some areas came out looking great, then others had grass poking up thru the snow. We covered just about the whole system. A few swamp areas were avoided today. The Cemetery trail south of Hwy K was one of them. We may try Sunday to push more snow into it and pack it in. With cold temps coming, hopefully this will freeze them up.

We will have an open date after the Vilas County Alliance meeting. Stay tuned, we are getting closer.
