Trail Report – : Rice Lake & Barron County, Wisconsin – January 12, 2022

Reporter:Jody

Trail Conditions: Closed

Snow Cover: 6-8 inches

Date of Report: January 12, 2022

Snowmobile Information:

More than 300 miles of groomed snowmobile trails lace Barron County, including the popular Tuscobia State Trail with 76 miles heading east from Rice Lake to Park Falls; the Wild Rivers Trail heading north from Rice Lake’s city limits leads 97 miles to Superior.

Barron County snowmobile and ATV trails remain closed. We’ve received approximately 8 inches of light snow, however it hasn’t provided a reasonable base to create sustainable snowmobile trails. Hopefully additional snow over the coming days will allow us to open the trails for the season.

January 12, 2022 – 6:20 am 26 – High of 27 today

Crazy temps swing.  17 below at this time yesterday.  Today it’s 26 with a high of 27 today & 13 tonight.  SNOW moving in tonight into tomorrow.  Looks to be only about 1 inch.  Could use more than that.  START DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE!

A base of 7 inches +- that is frozen hard.  There is loose SNOW in most areas but crunchy with not much moisture.  New SNOW will help that out.  Icy section especially in the corners.

The Groomer Tracking System AP (GTS) shows most trails groomed last night. Here are the trails sections NOT groomed. Pick up a map to see exact locations

  • Trail 70W to connect with St. Germain trails – West of Eagle River
  • Trail 17S to connect with Sugar Camp trails – West & south of Eagle River
  • Trail 7 aka Paintball Field that comes out along Hwy H & connects with Sugar Camp trails – West & south of Eagle River
  • Trail 3N aka Manske north of Eagle River. Connects trail 10/13N to trail 17N
  • Section of Trail 10/13N from Hwy G to where the trail comes out on Adams Rd – North of Eagle River
  • Chanticleer Trail off of 10E that goes to Eagle Lake crossing from the south
  • Granpa Graham Trail off of 10E that goes to Eagle Waters Resort

REMINDER: Catfish & Eagle lake trails were marked & are NOW OPEN.  To be safe stay by the orange reflective barrels.  Note the spur from the northside Eagle Lake boat launch that leads to Eagle Waters is NOT OPEN at this time.   Work in progress. Stay tuned.

There is a re route on 10/13/7/17 heading west.  Did stump grinding to help smooth out the area.  New SNOW has helped that area a lot.

Would like trail photos so I can post to the report to let other riders see the real time conditions.  Send them to info@baysidelodgingrentals.com

Trail Report – : Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin – January 11, 2022

Reporter:Toulish1

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 4-”

Date of Report: January 11, 2022

Snowmobile Information:

Northern Hornshoe Group marked Fence Lake today. There are a lot of drifts, and four areas of wet spots, so caution is advised. The trails on the rest of our lakes are excellent right now. I ran our entire system today, and other than being thin, the overall trail conditions are good. Trail 17, the grade is thin, but holding, from the Woodruff end to Wishow Lake Road, then bulks up some. It is good all the way north to Sugarbush Trail, then it gets very thin with gravel. Drive casual until the tree line starts after Powell Marsh where Mercer takes over. Trail 5 into the casino is very good. Trail along Highway F is good, but getting some bumps. 1 North along Stearns Lake Road is covered, but not much to ride on where you can’t cut into the banks. Sleds are doing a good job trying to carve into the banks. I did not run north on 1 but I am assuming there is still snow there once you get off of Stearns Lake and East Boundary. May run the roads by pickup just to take a peek. The cold is keeping what we have alive. Northern Hornshoes suspended grooming Sunday until we get more snow. I never want to blow snowshine up your trail, but there are still a lot of good places to play in our yard yet. Mark

Trail Report – : Sayner, Wisconsin – January 11, 2022

Reporter:SaynerStar Lake Barnstormers

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: Minimal

Date of Report: January 11, 2022

Area Report:

We received about 5″ of new snow last week.  While every bit helps, this snow was pretty fluffy, so it didn’t really add to our base.  Our trails still remain pretty flat, with minimal snow on top of the ice base.  There is plenty of good riding to be found, but please be careful as the corners remain icy.  There were a couple pretty serious accidents this past week in Vilas county.

Due to the extreme cold weather these past two days, the Barnstormers only groomed some of our high traffic areas.  Beginning tonight, we’ll be back on a full groom schedule again.

There is light snow forecast every other day for the next week.  Let’s hope it brings more than they are predicting at this time!

Please support all of the clubs by participating in their fundraisers!  Here’s a list of what’s coming up for the Barnstormers.  You can also get more info at http://www.saynerbarnstormers.com.

EAGLE RIVER TRAILS IN GOOD TO FAIR RIDING CONDITION

January 11, 2022 – 7:51 am 3 below zero – High of 21 today

Cold front came through yesterday into early this morning.  Barely made it above zero yesterday.  Last night it was 17 below zero east of Eagle River & some areas in Vilas County hit 20+ below zero.  Very early this morning began to rise.  It’s is 3 below zero at 7:10am.  High of 21 today with 20’s for until Friday.

Heavy traffic on the trails all weekend.  Good base on the trails with crunchy SNOW on top.  Trails could use some new fresh SNOW. START DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE!  All in all lots of conditions.  GOOD, FAIR, Icy corners.

The Groomer Tracking System AP (GTS) shows no grooming overnight.  Due to the cold.

Stay tuned.

Construction on the Ice Castle continues on day 3 today.  The Castle is the first constructed since 2018. The Castle is set to be completed later today. Takes cold weather & clear thick ice.  2,000 blocks of ice that will be used to construct the Castle by the Eagle River Fire Department & many volunteers. Here is a photo taken by Dan Dumas of Monday’s Progress.

Would like trail photos so I can post to the report to let other riders see the real time conditions.  Send them to info@baysidelodgingrentals.com

Area Report:

The trails are about as good as they can get outside of a couple wind blowing areas on a couple sections of field that are a little thin. We have been working the swamps hard during this cold snap and they are shaping up nicely. The lakes have frozen up nicely, I haven’t heard of any issues on any of them but use caution as ice conditions can change rapidly. Be safe and have fun.

This week groomers will be back out cleaning up from the weekend! The trails are still sitting good with some rocky areas particularly in the corners where heavy traffic rides. Our groomers are great at seeing this and doing what they can from stopping and picking any large rocks off of the trails as much as possible as well as pulling in snow from the sides and intersections to fill. They will work on that this week. Again, if you would like to help our trails and see a big rock if you could throw that off we really appreciate! It’s much easier and quicker for us to hop off a sled to toss a rock then a groomer to climb in and out of a large machine.

Today our high is sitting at -1, it’s hard to say a “high” is a “negative” but the rest of the week the day temps bring low 20’s and night in the teens.  Snow is in the forecast, 70% chance on Friday of 3-5″ in the day and 1-3″ in the evening. That once again would be wonderful and push our weekend riding to excellent! Stay tuned for that update!

Also, please ride lakes with caution. Stay on staked trail as much as possible, if you have to go off please watch for sticks, stumps, heaves, open water, tip ups, etc. The Chippewa Flowage does adjust their water levels in the fall, so what may not be above water in the summer can be in the winter i.e. sand bars, stumps, etc. Keep your eyes peeled!
