Trail Report – : Bayfield County, Wisconsin – January 26, 2022

Reporter:BayfieldCounty

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 4-6 inches

Date of Report: January 26, 2022

Area Report:

A little bit of new snow this week, but we can always use more especially in the southern part of the county. The cold temps have really helped us keep the snow we have which is good. There is some good riding out there particularly in the north and central part of the county. Just a reminder to all to please respect private landowners and stay on the trail. Stay on the trail or stay home!

Some trouble spots to note:

  • The Wally Polk Trail/Trail 40 near Port Wing and Herbster is closed. Flag road is a suitable re-route.
  • Trail 1 to Red Cliff/the Casino is temporarily closed. We ran into a landowner issue but hope to have a resolution within the week.

Namakagon Trail Groomers: We received some light snow over the last week. Trails have a 2-4″ base and remain in fair to good condition.

Barnes Barnestormers: Barnes trails are in fair condition. The cold weather has helped hold onto the snow we have. The trails get better as you get away from town with the best snow to the north. We will be grooming all week. Expect some snirt, bare patches and icy corners.

Drummond SnoJacks: Trail reports have been good with no real problems and grooming going on with the fresh snow all around Drummond.

Iron River: Iron River area trails will all be groomed this week and are in fairly good condition, still have dirt and leaves showing.

Washburn Valhallers:  Washburn area trails continue to be in excellent shape.  We are grooming all week in preparation for a great weekend. Trails in the Valhalla area continue to be in excellent shape. We are currently grooming two shifts, day and night seven days a week come on up and enjoy.

South Shore– Port Wing, Herbster & Cornucopia: All south shore trails will be groomed by Thursday and are good to very good.

Boulder Junction Snowmobile Club Trail Report – Wednesday, 1/26/22:

It was 20 below zero this morning and light snow forecast for later tonight.
Due to the extreme cold, we only groomed trail 15N last night and didn’t groom our early morning routes this morning. Later today, we are changing out the 2 front Souchy tracks on our John Deere 7230 tractor and we won’t be back to our regular daily grooming schedule until Thursday.
With the colder temps, our trails have held up well with the exception of trail 15S which has a section of moguls that develop daily. Enjoy our trails, be safe, and check for an updated report on Friday, 1/28/22.

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 7 inch hard base – crunchy snow – Need more fresh SNOW

Date of Report: January 26, 2022

Area Report:

EAGLE RIVER TRAILS
WIDE RANGE OF CONDITIONS
ON AVERAGE FAIR to GOOD
Need Fresh SNOW

January 26, 2022 – 7:23 am 22 below zero – High of 8 today

Somebody left the freezer door open again!  22 below this morning  So if you’re riding dress warm. Included sub zero rated boots & gloves. Fully charged phone in an inside pocket. Take the charger along.  Stop more often.  Warm non alcohol drinks. Tell someone where you plan to ride.

Plans of riding today are scrapped.  Did talk to riders & checked trails, yes by car.  Hard base is icy in spots especially corners & open areas. Snow on top is crunchy so it’s fast (slippery).  Recommend slowing down.  Trails on northside of roads like 10E one way heading toward Eagle River & 17N north along Hwy 45N & 70W along Hwy 70E have areas of just forming snirt.  Too much sun causing that.  Especially under the big pines. Most roads are ice covered. All the riders told riding was pretty GOOD just we need new SNOW.  Traffic has slowed down but remember to Ride Right to be safe especially in the corners.

The Groomer Tracking System AP (GTS) shows NO grooming Eagle River last night.

Catfish & Eagle lake trails marked & OPEN.  To be safe stay by the orange reflective barrels.  DO NOT think the entire lake is safe.  There have been several sleds going into the water this winter.  ALL were no where near a trail or the barrels.

Sure would like trail photos so I can post to the report to let other riders see the real time conditions.  Send them to info@baysidelodgingrentals.com

Please KEEP DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE!  Need fresh SNOW

See ya on the trails!!
