Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 16 on the ground – 7 inch hard base – 1/2 new snow

Date of Report: January 28, 2022

Area Report:

TRAILS GOOD TO FAIR
NEW SNOW NEEDED

January 28 – 7:25am – 8 below – High 12 today

Lake Effect SNOW yesterday morning & very windy.  About 1/2 inch of SNOW.  Bringing the total on the ground to about 16 inches.  On the trails there is a hard frozen 7 inch base covered with crunchy SNOW & the loose SNOW from yesterday. Next SNOW forecast this Monday & Tuesday.

Riding, corners are icy. Along with the road routes but most are completely covered with ice. Found trails to be SNOW covered except for few snirt(snow/dirt) areas under the big pines & open areas.  We did not head east from our house so I am not sure how the open areas are farther east toward Phelps & Three Lakes. Please check out the Phelps & Three Lakes reports.  Into town 10E covered with icy area near the Bloom Rd crossing.  Snirty where you come out to cross Loon Lake Rd to connect with smooth SNOW covered Alt13/3 to Eagle River.  In town trails are covered all the way through.  Going west (left behind the Dairy Queen) on 70/7/17 trails SNOW covered to the street entrance.  From there heading west lots of conditions.  Icy. Snirt. Thin in spots. Once getting to the Eagle River Inn & the Rec Bridge it improves.  We road before the grooming last night so there were rough area.  Should be better today.  All in all there are Fair to Good riding conditions out there.

The Groomer Tracking System AP (GTS) shows nearly ALL the trails were groomed last  Here’s is what was NOT Groomed last night

Trail 1 from the parking area at the entrance to Eagle Lake heading north to connect with Trail 17N – NOT GROOMED

Trail 17N from where the trail intersects with Trail 3 aka Manske Swamp north of Eagle River along Hwy 45N – NOT GROOMED

Catfish & Eagle lake trails marked & OPEN.  To be safe stay by the orange reflective barrels.  Keep telling you DO NOT think the entire lake is safe.  There have been several sleds going into the water this winter.  ALL were no where near a trail or the barrels.

Sure would like trail photos so I can post to the report to let other riders see the real time conditions.  Send them to info@baysidelodgingrentals.com

Please KEEP DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE!  Trails Need More Fresh SNOW

Hello Riders!

Brace yourself for another good weekend of riding! And looks like some better temps! All of the groomers have been out an active this week. We got a bit of fresh snow early in the week that froze up with the cold temps. Most trails are reported to be good, some better than others and some still have some rocks or are a little slick on the corners. Lake riding is awesome!

Sno-Mads has been out and busy all week on 77, 8, 31, 22. Nelson Lake area today and 63 tonight.

Musky Sno has been out in the Round Lake and Spider Lake to Lost Land Lake and Moose Lake area. South to the Flowage Brian has been out.

Loretta Trailblazers has been out in the Flambeau and reports to be good.

Winter Huskies has been out on the Tuscobia and surrounding trails and reported to be really good! They has a busy weekend hosting the snow cross race and jumped straight into the groomers and hit it hard!

Sno Trails had some equipment issues this week but as always, worked hard and fast to complete repairs and have been working hard to make up for lost time before the weekend.

You can view grooming updates as well on the app GTS (Grooming Tracking Systems) and see what trails were groomed within 24-96 hours. It’s been a great resource this season!

We could use some more snow as we always wish for the end of January, but sometimes more snow doesn’t always mean better trails, more snow can create bigger moguls. But we always like a freshen up and that we did get this week. Looks like some may head our way after the weekend but keep your snow dances going because it always seems we get snow when we aren’t expecting it! It’s a great thing about the north woods…except when its April or May! 😉 Temps look like they will be perfect for riding; sitting at 10 tomorrow and in the 20’s this weekend! It’s nice to see double digits for the highs!

For surrounding counties conditions visit Travel WI.

Have a great weekend, ride smart, ride safe, make memories!

Trails are in good shape the new snow help tighten the trails back up mixed with the cold weather we have this week. The corners and a couple of the hills get thin after a busy day so ride safe and ride right and ride to the conditions.

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 15 – 20 inches

Date of Report: January 27, 2022

Area Report:

Finally starting to warm up today… upper teens to low 20’s today and through the weekend it will be in the mid 20’s it looks like.  Snow showers are coming down today.. calling for about an inch of snow.  Trails are being groomed and are holding up well… a little icy in some corners but with the warming temps that should get better through the weekend.  Traffic remains a little on the low side with these terribly cold temps we have had for about a week now.  Only positive with the cold cold temps.. we aren’t losing any snow on the trails…  LOL

Trail #2, Trail #116, Trail #16, Trail #113, Trail #18, Trail #107, Trail 15 N. are all in groomed and in “Good Condition”.

Trail #15 S. is in “Fair Condition” a little icy in the corners.

Just a reminder for those that are concerned… Michigan restaurants and bars remain open an 100% occupancy this winter… and looking for some familiar smiley faces to come through their doors.  We have lots of lodging availability on the trails as well here in Iron County… so be sure to check us out this winter.  😉

Happy sledding everyone and remember to stay on your side of the trail especially on the corners… and be sure to give those groomer drivers a “BIG Thumbs UP” whenever you see them out on the trails.  These operators donated a lot of their free time in keeping our trails in the great condition they are in.

News and Reports:

Winter is getting away from us… we are halfway through the snowmobile season already… where does the time go?  I’ve been told there is a little logging going on off of trail #16 between Crystal Falls and Iron River… so keep your eyes open when traveling on trail #16.  😉

Area Report:

TRAILS FAIR TO GOOD
NEED MORE SNOW

January 27, 2022 – 7:00 am 18 degrees – Which is also the high for today

What a temp swing.  It is 40 degrees warmer this morning than yesterday!  Have reached the high for today with temps steadily dropping all day into single digits below zero.  Will be in the teens for highs through the end of weekend.  Great riding temps.  Next snow is next Monday.

Really little change in the trails.  Hard base is icy in spots especially corners & open areas. Snow on top is crunchy so it’s fast (slippery).  Recommend slowing down.  Trails on northside of roads like 10E one way heading toward Eagle River & 17N north along Hwy 45N have areas of just forming snirt.  Especially under the big pines. Too much sun causing that.  Today it will be cloudy.  Most roads are ice covered.  Out of towns riding is GOOD.  Trails need fresh SNOW.

The Groomer Tracking System AP (GTS) shows most trails groomed.  Here’s is what was NOT Groomed last night

Trail 10E – That include no grooming of the spurs – Trail 10E begins just south of Eagle River off of Trail Alt13/3 & heads east connecting to Three Lakes Trails – NOT GROOMED

Trail 70W/7/17 – These trails begin in Eagle River off of Trail Alt13/3 behind the Dairy Queen & heads due west connecting to St. Germain & Sugar Camp Trails – NOT GROOMED

Catfish & Eagle lake trails marked & OPEN.  To be safe stay by the orange reflective barrels.  DO NOT think the entire lake is safe.  There have been several sleds going into the water this winter.  ALL were no where near a trail or the barrels.

Sure would like trail photos so I can post to the report to let other riders see the real time conditions.  Send them to info@baysidelodgingrentals.com
