Trail Report – : Sugar Camp, Wisconsin – February 2, 2022

Reporter:Matt Winters

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 20″-24″

Date of Report: February 2, 2022

Area Report:

Trails have been in good condition this week. There’s a few choppy spots, some icy corners, and a few spots that are a little thin on snow but the majority of them are in very good condition. Cold conditions the rest of this week should help keep them in good condition thru the weekend. Please be careful on the corners, there are a lot of corners that have skinned up trees and plastic parts laying next to them this year and not one of them are on the icy corners. We really do not want to see anyone get hurt. Be safe and have fun.

Area Report:

Trails are holding up great considering the lack of new snow.  Groomer operators are doing the best with what they have to work with.  Cold temps for the next few days and a warm-up by mid next week.  There is snirt at the road crossing and plenty of snow in the woods.  Phelps trails are being grommed almost nightly and are in good to excellent condition.  Please keep to the right on the trails and stay on the trails.  It’s time to bring back the old AWSC saying, “Stay on the Trails, They Never Fail”  Enjoy your time in the Phelps area and support our sponsers.

Boulder Junction Snowmobile Club Trail Report – Wednesday, 2/2/22:

It’s 0 degrees out this morning with bright sunny skies. Cooler temps and minimal snow is predicted up through the weekend.

With very little new snow in a while, our trails are starting to wear down. The road routes are still in very good condition, but our wooded trails are getting thin on the inside of the corners and have developed moguls on some of our trails, especially 15S and 2W/8W going out of town.

Due to the lack of recent snow, we are scaling down some of our grooming. Last night we groomed 15N, 8W to Day Lake Road, and 2W to Keego Road. This morning, we groomed 15S and 8E to Nixon Lake Road.

That being said, our trails are still in good riding condition. Our club is doing a club ride today to Land O’ Lakes and will  report on the condition of the trails on our next trail report.

Enjoy our trails, be safe, and check for an updated report on Friday, 2/4//22.

Trail Report – : Bayfield County, Wisconsin – February 2, 2022

Reporter:BayfieldCounty

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 4 – 10 inches

Date of Report: February 2, 2022

Area Report:

Conditions across the county are varied. Not much for fresh snow so the best riding remains in the North Central part of the county. Those trails are in excellent condition. The rest of the county needs some fresh snow so our groomers can work their magic and get the trails in tip top shape. The trail to the casino is officially open which is great news.

Some trouble spots to note:

  • The Wally Polk Trail/Trail 40 near Port Wing and Herbster is closed. Flag road is a suitable re-route.

Namakagon Trail Groomers: Our trails are holding steady with a 2-4″ base but a lot of them are ‘snirt” (snow & dirt). We’ve had very heavy traffic and haven’t received any new snow. We need snow!! Trails are mostly fair condition ~ some fair to good. And still having rocks exposed due to low snow conditions.

Barnes Barnestormers: Barnes trails are still holding up, would rate as fair. Thin base, snirt and bare spots. We are still grooming, the cold weather has helped.

Iron River: Iron River area trails 3 and 31 north of highway 2 are in very good shape. Trails 22, 24 and 31 south of Highway 2 are in nfairly good shape but are lacking snow. Trail 4 from tri-county corridor to Delta is ok shape but mocha colored with lots of dirt and leaves. Trail 4 from Delta to Mason in nice shape but lacks snow in the field portions

Washburn Valhallers: Trails in the Vahalla area and north continue to be in excellent condition. We continue to groom two shifts a day six days a week. Trails out of Washburn are being groomed all week.  Trail 13, 33, 31 and 63 near the Valhalla area are holding up good with no bare spots.  Snow is thinning so some larger holes are not filling as easily.  Trail 13 into Washburn and Ashland is a bit thinner but still very ridable.  Warmer temps for the weekend should make another great riding weekend.

South Shore: All south shore trails will be groomed by Wednesday and are fair to very
good condition. Snow is thin by the lake.

Hello Riders!

The groomers have been out non-stop working hard over the last few days! About every trail has been groomed in the last 24-48 hours. While we defiantly need snow, however the trails are actually laying down nice and flat! The groomers have worked their usual magic and pulled snow from the sides, timed the start and finish of grooming right when the temps are good to groom and the evening cooler temps are what they run into when finishing so their trails set. They are pro’s! They are doing what they can with what they are given!

Speaking of temps we will find our temps in the single digits for highs and negatives for lows through Friday. But we are snowmobilers, we thrive off the cold!! Saturday shows mid-twenties and Sunday high teens. Great riding weather! Friday shows a chance of snow, we’ll take anything Mother Nature brings! Do you snow dance!

Reports from around the county have continued this season to be quite consistent.  Much of the county from the south east corner such as the Flambeau Forest, to the Tuscobia around Winter and continuing north through the Chippewa Flowage to the Seeley Hills and surrounding area, Moose Lake and to the Bayfield County line most groomers report their trails to be fair to good, some areas better than others. There will be rocks kicked up and some icy/bare corners but pleasantly surprised by how well they are holding up. As always, never judge the trails by the ones near and/or on the roads and those in the open, they will be dirty and have bare spots. Many of those are connecting trails so you won’t ride them long. Most trails are protected by the forest. The south west corner in the Birchwood area and to the Washburn County line has not quite as much snow so reports to be poor to fair and needs more snow. Lake riding is excellent!! Again, we defiantly need more snow that’s no secret but the trails are absolutely rideable!

For surrounding counties updates please visit Travel WI.

Once again, a huge thank you to our groomers who have been working hard on the trails! Also this time of year with the hard work the machines are doing and the deep cold temps many machines will experience some break downs or become in need of service and attention so those same groomers and volunteers are maintaining these machines. It wouldn’t be possible without our team! Thank you to all the clubs and volunteers, the businesses who support the sport, donations and to all of you for making Sawyer County your riding destination!!

Trail Report – : Antigo/Langlade County, Wisconsin – February 1, 2022

Reporter:langlade

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 4-9

Date of Report: February 1, 2022

Area Report:

Zone A of the Langlade County Snowmobile Trails System is in good to very good condition due to the continued cold weather and grooming effort by the snowmobile clubs.  There are some thin and/or icy spots in the trails, especially on corners.  Please use caution when riding the trails and reduce speed around corners.

Zone B trails are in overall are in fair to good condition.  The snowmobile clubs continue to groom the snow we do have, which is keeping the trails in the best possible condition.  Thin patches as well as some patches of ice are present throughout this zone primarily in the lowlands and on corners.  Due to drifting and grooming activities, most of the fields are in good to very good condition.

The above freezing temperatures on February 1 do not appear to have melted enough to be noticeable.

Trail Report – : Price County – Park Falls, Phillips & Prentice, Wisconsin – January 28, 2022

Reporter:Phillips/Park Falls Chambers

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 3-5″

Date of Report: January 28, 2022

Area Report:

All county trails are open. Trails are generally in “good” condition based on the snowfall – we received some light snows this week, but nothing to improve the thin base cover. That being said, we have some of the best riding conditions we have had in several years.
