Boulder Junction Snowmobile Club Trail Report – Monday, 2/21/22:

It’s 12 degrees out this morning with snow falling and a predicted 1’-2’ of snow through Wednesday morning and cold weather all week. Last night, we groomed 15N and 6E. Early this morning, we groomed 8E, 11, and 15S.

With the much needed new snow, cold temps, and daily grooming, our trails will be in good to very good condition for mid-week riding. All our adjacent club trails that use road routes will be greatly improved. This week may be the best of the season area wide.

Get out and enjoy our trails, be safe, think snow! Check for an updated report on Wednesday 2/23/22.

Trail Conditions: Excellent

Snow Cover: 15 – 25 inches

Date of Report: February 21, 2022

Area Report:

Was a great weekend for riding.. trails held up good… all reports from riders came back trails were in good to very good condition.  Only issues were where there was some road or ditch riding but after today and tomorrow that will all be better as well.

Snow is really coming down right now.  Forecast is for 12-18 inches of snow over the next couple of days!!  🙂

I will update the trail report tomorrow or on Wednesday.. but honestly it’s going to be EXCELLENT riding this week and weekend no matter if we get 6″ or 18″ of snow.  But, 18 inches will carry us over for a couple extra weeks of some “Good” riding I think.

Stay Tuned for the next updated report!  😉

Happy Trails Y’all     🙂

Wow! What a week it has been around here.  We were down to one groomer again for a few days but now all 4 are fully functional. We also got a lot of snow Friday night into Saturday, hard to say how much but several inches for sure. There will lots of blowing and drifting so use caution. We will do the best that we can to keep up with the busy holiday weekend traffic. We appreciate your patience! Please check the facebook page for the latest updates. Ride safe, ride right, ride sober! Please scroll down for each trail.

—We’ve had a busy year, brushing, signing and performing necessary repairs on our 100 mile trail system and our equipment. Please see our Facebook page for pictures and updates on what our dedicated volunteers have accomplished. Thank you all for riding our trail system and supporting the businesses that support the Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association!—

-There is now a plowed parking area at the beginning of trail #8 under the International Bridge, which has an all season porta John.  Make sure you lock your vehicles and trailers.

-We now have a marked trail going to Chippewa Motors.  It starts once you come out of the woods east of M-129 off #449.  It comes into their parking lot from behind if you need parts or service.

-City curfew is from 1 am – 6 am. Remember most City streets are open to traffic 20 mph, stop at all intersections, and ride on the right hand side of street not on side walks. Watch for closed streets that are posted, mainly around the hospital, university, and state trunk lines.

-When the trail is running along roads make sure you go with the flow of traffic on the right side of the road.

-Remember trail base is the amount of snow between your track and the ground below not the amount of fluff piled up in the woods.  10 inches of snow compresses to less then a inch on the trail.

-If you are staying in the Sault please look at our list of supporters on our web page and give them your business.  Please do that in all towns you visit.  The grooming entities are all made up of volunteers who want you to support those who support us!!!!!!

When a groomer is visible you must immediately move off the trail.

Snowmobile Information:

Wanted to update after the weekend, and BEFORE the big snow. Heavy traffic all weekend. Big groups, but most all we hit were well organized and in control. By yesterday, our grade 17 south of Stearns Lake was gravel. We almost hit 40 here, and asphalt was poking out on the roads. We would have heard the sound of taps playing softly, and would be burying the leg lamp today. BUT, anywhere from 6-12″ predicted in the next 48 hours. Headed to town shortly for gunpowder and guitar strings, and maybe a couple of cans of Whoo Hash. Stay tuned. Mark

All trails were groomed on Saturday. The little bit of snow we got Friday helped. We are forecasted to receive a good amount of snow Monday thru Tuesday. This should help cover the small areas we have that are a little thin on snow. Stayed tuned for the snow totals from the storm. corners may be icy as snow gets banked up from sleds. Remember to slow down in corners in anticipation of it being icy.

Trail 3 still has the gravel section where it is coming up through the snow. The patch is roughly 250 ft long . Please ride safe ride right and for the conditions.

Also noticed several corners where sleds have lost control in an icy corner and have left the trail. Please ride safe and enjoy the scenery.
