Boulder Junction Snowmobile Club Trail Report – Friday, 12/30/2022

It’s 30 degrees and cloudy out this morning.

We groomed 15N, 2W, and 8W last night and 8E, 11, and 15S early this morning.

Our groomer drivers upon going out are reporting that the trails are rough and some inside corners are getting bare. With the warm temps and heavy traffic, we are doing our best to smooth them out.

Tonight’s cool down will help, but as always best riding will be early in the day.

If you are in our area this week, enjoy our trails and support our local businesses.

Look for an updated report on Monday, 1/02/23.

December 30, 2022 10:24am – 29 & dropping – High of 41 today

SNO-EAGLES
EAGLE RIVER TRAILS
OPEN – EARLY SEASON RIDING with Fair to Poor conditions

The late December thaw continues.  41 today & 9 degree tonight which is great for a nighttime temp.   30’s during the day until January 4.  20’s at night.  Next SNOW is forecast at night on January 3.  All according to the weather guys.  THINK COLD & then START DOIN’ A SNOW DANCE!

As for trails with the warm up most all trails are degrading.  North trails better than south trails. Soft & even mushy areas.  Yesterday for the most part trails did have snow cover on 10E, grade into town & through town.  10W/13 crossing the Wisconsin Bridge is still frozen but approaches have soft snow.  West side has snirt.  Heading north on what I call the Bauers trail, which is trail 13 on the map are snow cover but there is breakdown in the open areas & some blow out in the corners.   Trail 10E after the one way goes back to a 2 way trail, near the gas station has blow out in the corners.   Northeast toward Phelps is better as there is woods riding.  Along side the roads burning through & mushy.  Heading south on Alt 13 toward Three Lakes very soft & mushy.  Trails need new snow & cold to improve.

Groomers were out last night with just 3 sections not groomed.   They are:

  • Trail 1S that heads toward Eagle Lake
  • Grampa Grahm trail that spurs off of 10E by the Off the Chain Restaurant & head toward Eagle Lake from the southeast
  • Trail 10W/7 which heads toward Sayner. It spurs off of Trails 10W/13N after you cross Wisconsin River & head southwest.

NOTE – DEERVIEW LANE SECTION OF TRAIL 1N THAT HEADS TO EAGLE LAKE HAS HEAVY TRUCK TRAFFIC.  Slow down & be aware.

Eagle & Catfish Lake trails are open & marked.   Take it slow.  Hard ice & surface slush.  Very skatey.  Stay by the orange reflective barrels to be safe.

Some reminders when you ride. Please no off trail riding & stop at driveways.  Also as you ride you might meet a groomer.   They are big & can’t pull over for us.  So pull over & let the driver direct you.  And oh ya give ’em a thumbs up.  They groom so we can ride!!!

Are you Dancin?!?

See ya on the trails real soon!!

Trail Report – : Hayward / Sawyer County, Wisconsin – December 29, 2022

Reporter:haywardlakes

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: 9-10 Inches

Date of Report: December 29, 2022

Area Report:

Hello Riders!!

Update Thursday 12/29.  In conjunction with the county Forestry office the Sawyer County Snowmobile and ATV Alliance, trails are OPEN.   HOWEVER, we say this with many forewarnings and caution:

  • Many main artery trails have been cleared and/or groomed. It was too warm today to put groomers out so many will run during the evenings over the weekend.
  • While many trails are cleared not all trails have been cleared or groomed. There will be side trails that have not been touched yet as we are still very early with this opening.
  • There will be trails that are cleared but not groomed yet, please ride with caution as there can still be equipment out there working as well ruts created from the heavy equipment needed to cut and clear.
  • Lakes reported to be staked are The Chippewa Flowage, Lost Land Lake and Barker Lake. Reports Tiger Cat, Callahan and possible Spider will be staked tomorrow and Saturday.  We will update lake staking so PLEASE watch for that and DO NOT ride lakes not staked.
  • As always, stay on the marked trails on the lakes, do not venture away and be courteous of fisherman. Also, know the lakes are rough, so ride slowly and with caution.

So, to recap, while trails are open you are riding at your own risk, and we ask you do so with caution. We also ask that if you see any down branches or debris that you throw it off rather than running it over allowing it to free into the base and become a hazard for riders and groomers.

Thank you for patience and please ride safely, this will not be the most ideal riding of the season, but it is a start.

Trail Report – : Sayner, Wisconsin – December 29, 2022

Reporter:SaynerStar Lake Barnstormers

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: Need More!

Date of Report: December 29, 2022

Area Report:

New Years weekend is historically one of the busiest of the season.  Extensive traffic and minimal snow conditions are not a combination that bodes well for the trails.  It’s been two weeks since we’ve had any wet, heavy snow (dry, fluffy snow does not help us) and it’s becoming obvious.  When trails opened we only had a 2″ base to work with.

Most of the Barnstormer trail system has been in fair to good condition.  The 2 mile stretch coming into Sayner is always our hardest hit and is in poor condition with deep ruts.  I’m told Plum Lake will be marked on Monday, so that will take some pressure off the town trail.

After taking a ride yesterday through three neighboring club systems, it was obvious that other clubs are fighting the same issues.  You’ll find a lot of decent riding, but high traffic areas are getting hit hard.  Every club is doing what they can, but without some more wet snow to work with, we are grooming with dry, worn out snow that will not pack or stay in place.

The Barnstormers will continue doing the best we can with the conditions Mother Nature is offering.  It looks like our best chance for more snow is Tuesday.  High temp is forecast at 35, so it hopefully, it will be more snow than rain!

And finally, after seeing some negative posts on social media, I feel like I have to respond.  If you have never been a groomer driver, please don’t comment as if you know what it takes maintain the trails.  All of the Vilas County clubs are run by people that have been doing this for a very long time.  Blaming the clubs for conditions that are outside of their control is uncalled for and not at all helpful.

TRAIL CLOSURE NOTICE:  Due to ongoing logging operations, the Barnstormer’s trail #51 is CLOSED between TIN 344 and 353!  DO NOT RIDE THIS SECTION OF TRAIL!

Mark your calendars for the following Barnstormer Fundraising Events!

Gogebic Range Trail Authority – ORV & Snowmobile Club

Trail Report 12/29/202

Please be careful out riding. The wet heavy snow on trees mixed with (very) light freezing rain is bringing down more trees. Groomers have cut back the bumps tonight across our main corridors. TRAILS WILL BE BUMPY EARLY AFTERNOON AND THRU THE EVENING, GET OUT EARLY IF YOU CAN’T HANDLE WHAT THE BUSIEST WEEK OF RIDING DOES TO THE TRAILS.

Lake Gogebic Area Groomers

Trail Report 12/29/202

Groomers have reported that they have all trails and access trails set.  Grooming has been resumed however with the abundance of traffic and temperatures the trails are not getting a chance to set up.   Groomers will continue to try to keep the bumps knocked down so that they don’t freeze and become a constant headache all season.    Groomers are doing everything that they possibly can to keep up and have a constant rotation of operators going out.   Our area is being bombarded with traffic.   We thank everyone for visiting our area and understand that we everyone is doing the very best they can!

U P Thunder Riders Watersmeet

Trail Report 12/26/2022

Most snowmobile trails are only 14 to 16 feet wide, you have to be spot on when driving the groomer, cause one miss and off the trail you go! It is heart pounding and intense. These guys and girls are out doing this for 8 to 14 hours. Thunder Riders groomers will be heading out today please use more caution than normal for the next couple of days as they work hard to shape up the trails. A big applause to all the groomer drivers!!

Area Report:

Temperatures are expected to be above freezing most of today. Although we have been out grooming heavily over the past few days, we are still seeing moguls soon after we complete with all the traffic and slushy snow. It would definitely be a good day to find a fun establishment close to your accommodations, and relax there to help preserve the trails for this coming weekend.

As of now, our trails are still reported in good condition with reasonable base, but our operators are finding it more and more difficult to keep things smooth with these temps. We are doing all we can. PLEASE STAY ON THE TRAILS!! We are fielding numerous complaints of trespassing. Just no excuse for this, and officers have zero tolerance.
