Trail Report – : Conover, Wisconsin – January 7, 2023

Reporter:snobuddies

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 8-12”

Date of Report: January 7, 2023

Area Report:

Went out riding on Thursday and Friday. Trails were in very good shape. There were a few spots where base was low, but they were in very good shape over all.

The cemetery trail was groomed last night. Just about everything was hit last night, and we will be at it again Saturday night.
There is no snow in the forecast for this week except maybe a small clipper coming through late next week. All the storms hitting the west coast hard are not making it past the Rocky Mountains. At some point, this will change.

News and Reports:

If you find a condition that you need to report to the Conover Sno-Buddies like a down tree, water on the trail, etc, either message us on Facebook, use the contact page on our website, or even notify a local establishment. They know how to get a hold of us to fix the issue.

  • A reminder to ride between the orange blazers. Along Hwy K West, there were several 100 trees removed this summer to place new electric poles. Most of the stumps are still there. If you were to hit one, it could ruin your trip quickly. Ride Right ➡️ Ride Safe.

Snowmobile Information:

Our annual Poker Run starts December 24th and ends on March 4th. You can pick up game cards to be stamped at several locations in Conover, Eagle River, Phelps, and Land O Lakes. Draw party is March 4th. No need to be present to win.

January 28th – 1pm-4pm – Chilli and Soup Cook-off at Wild Turkey. Entreries must be there by 12:45pm. Bring a crook pot full of your favorite recipe. Or stop by and be a judge on entreries.

SNO-EAGLES
EAGLE RIVER TRAILS
EARLY SEASON RIDING – Fair on average – Good North

The temps have dropped but not much new SNOW the forecast. Overnight for the next 3-4 days will be in the low teens or lower.  20’s during the day.  What isn’t in the forecast is SNOW.   Need a SNOW DANCE!

Longer report again this morning to give you some ideas on riding.

The best riding is still heading north out of town.  That would be Trail 10/13. Icy corners most everywhere.  Wisconsin River Bridge area of Trail 10/13 that heads west had slushy spots on the approach to the bridge on both sides. Wasn’t out there but have to believe it’s crusty & rough now with the cold. There is room to get around those spots. In town trails are crusty, but SNOW covered especially heading south through town on Trail 10/13.

Trail 10E is ragged from the turn where 10E & Alt 13 split. Icy & thinner on the first section to the Bloom Rd crossing. Road icy.  Where the one way section starts there is a total burn through. Once at the Hockey Arena it improves.  All SNOW covered but icy with not a lot of lubrication.  When trail merges back together riding still fair with some very icy corners.  Pick up the Three Lakes & take a ride on what the local call the Kimball Creek trail.  Into Three Lakes & back up on Alt 13 to Eagle River.  Yesterday afternoon there was fair amount of traffic going east & returning west.  BE SURE YOU ARE GOING THE CORRECT WAY ON THE ONE WAYS.  There were several riders going the wrong way yesterday.

Nearly a full groomer session last night & very early this morning.

NOT GROOMED – Trail 1N heading to Eagle Lake, the spur that takes you Trigs Shell & Trails 70W toward St. Germain(very thin snow), Trail 17S toward Sugar Camp & Trail 7 aka Paintball Field

NOTE – DEERVIEW LANE SECTION OF TRAIL 1N THAT HEADS TO EAGLE LAKE STILL HAS HEAVY TRUCK TRAFFIC.  Slow down & be aware.

Eagle & Catfish Lake trails are open & marked.   Take it slow.  Hard rough & some shiny ice. Always stay by the orange reflective barrels to be safe.

Some reminders when you ride. Have a Map or Phone App. Please no off trail riding & stop at driveways.  Also as you ride you might meet a groomer.   They are big & can’t pull over for us.  So pull over & let the driver direct you.  And oh ya give ’em a thumbs up.  They groom so we can ride!!!

Keep DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE!!  THINK COLD!

See ya on the trails real soon!!

We are OPEN!

News and Reports:

We are OPEN! Trails are cleared, rolled, and groomed! Thank you to all our groomers for all your hard work after days of heavy snowfalls and clearing lots of fallen trees.

Snowmobile Information:

WE ARE OPEN. As of 1/6/2023 Trails are 100% cleared, rolled, and groomed. Please be respectful of all posted signage and private property that land owners are kind enough to let us use. Snow is softer due to warmer temperatures the last few days. Garden Lake has been staked. Lake Namakagon is not staked: due to snow cover, ice depth continues to be variable.  Use Extreme Caution if riding on the lake. There will be large equipment on Trail 31 into Sawyer County for the next couple of days so please avoid.

The Cable Area in Northern Wisconsin has over 1,200 miles of interconnecting snowmobile trail systems, making it one of the largest trail systems in the U.S. Uncrowded trails and the solitude of the Chequamegon National Forest bring snowmobilers back again and again to the Cable Area.

Reporter:minocqua

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 8-12

Date of Report: January 6, 2023

Area Report:

We did get 3-4 inches of heavy wet snow over the last few days and really helped with our trail system, some corners are icy so slow down. Most lakes are marked so stay by the markers because you might hit slush. Waiting on Lake Minocqua yet as there are still spots by the islands that are not thick enough until we get cold weather, forecast looks now to be below freezing all week. Savemore bay has plenty of ice from hwy 70 west trail to the bearskin trail but we cant just mark part of the lake until the the rest is good to go and safe.
