SNO-EAGLES
EAGLE RIVER TRAILS
Good to Excellent

Temps in the deep freeze for another day. Back up to the 20’s during the day on Saturday.  SNOW Thursday morning.  Inch or 2.  Trails have a hard ice base with plenty of loose SNOW on top making them “fast”.  Meaning slippery.  Some corners have “blow outs” in the corners. They are GOOD to EXCELLENT just slow down.

Trail 10E has a one-way section that starts at Taylor Lake Rd.  When riding & head east past the ERRA Sports Arena you ride on the south side of Hwy 70E.  This goes all the way to the gas station.  When riding & heading west from the gas station you ride on the north side of Hwy 70E.  All road crossings have signs that say DO NOT ENTER – if you are going the wrong way.  Please be aware & do not go the wrong way on these trails.

Going to be cold the next few days.  Most nights below zero.  If you are riding here are some tips:

Tell someone where you are riding
Dress in layers
Stop more frequently & drink non alcoholic beverages
Take cell phone & store in an inner layer pocket

Eagle & Catfish Lake trails are marked.  Please stay by the orange reflective barrels.  Remember not all lakes are safe.

NOTE: Off of Trail 70W after entering St. Germain is a trail locals call “The Goat” trail.  It is a Club Trail that starts at TIN 287 to TIN 288 that is CLOSED.  It is clearly marked as CLOSED with fencing & signs.  Please do not ride through this area from either direction. DO NOT RIDE ON HWY 70 as this is not legal.

Last, off trail riding is a big problem.  PLEASE STAY ON THE TRAIL & Take the Snowmobilers Pledge.

Keep DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE!!  THINK COLD!

Be Safe & See ya on the trails!

Trail Conditions: Excellent

Snow Cover: 12-15”

Date of Report: January 30, 2023

Area Report:

Trails are in excellent condition with some fresh snow last week and cold temperatures. The cold has brought us some icy corners and hills, just take it easy in the corners and keep right.
Lakes are all marked, stay close to the barrels for the safest ice.
Remember, the groomers have the right of way. If you come upon one, they will stop and let you by when it’s the safest. We typically groom at night, but there are times when you will see one during the day.

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 4-8”

Date of Report: January 30, 2023

Snowmobile Information:

We still have plenty of snow, but there was a high volume of traffic this weekend. We saw a lot of groups 10 to 15 sleds repeatedly. Hornshoe Groomer was down Saturday due to the manufacturer defects that we are continually wrenching and cobbling on. We tried again yesterday, and got shut down due to a couple of sensor issues that may have resulted from wiring in the area we always work on. We will get back online as soon as we can, and I will report updates as they develop. Until then, ride safe and stay to the right. I have seen a lot of corner cutters recently. Mark

Trail Report – : Spooner and Washburn County, Wisconsin – January 30, 2023

Reporter:Washburn County

Trail Conditions: Open

Snow Cover: 10+

Date of Report: January 30, 2023

Area Report:

There has been a recent dusting of snow across the county. Area Clubs & County Staff are continuing to maintain a close eye on trails and their conditions. All of the clubs are reporting the trails to be in great condition for riding. There are some areas and sections of trails getting soft with the recent rain and warmer temps at the beginning of the week. Cooler temps & more snow is in the forecast so the trail base should harden back up and create great riding for the remainder of the season. Please remember to ride with caution and stay on designated trail surfaces. Clubs are out grooming and maintaining the trails on a regular basis so please use caution when you encounter grooming equipment.

Trail Report – : Sayner, Wisconsin – January 30, 2023

Reporter:SaynerStar Lake Barnstormers

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 8″ +

Date of Report: January 30, 2023

Area Report:

The Barnstormer trails have held up very well despite the heavy traffic and lack of good snow.  With the exception of tonight, January 30, we are grooming nightly.  With the sub-zero temps, we are not sending our drivers out tonight.  Grooming will start up again tomorrow night.

Until we get significant snow, the trail base will remain very thin and the corners will be icy.  The lack of snow is helping to keep the trails flat, but the icy base makes safety a big concern.

Sometimes we may sound like a broken record when we continue to preach about slowing down.  There have been FOUR SNOWMOBILE FATALITIES in the area just in the past four days!  Two left the trail and hit trees, one lost control and hit a fencepost after passing another sled on the trail, and one was hit by a vehicle when trying to cross a highway.  We cannot stress this enough:  SLOW DOWN AND BE ATTENTIVE!

Another situation that has been getting worse is the off-trail riding.  Hey, I get it, it’s fun.  But, it’s also illegal, it’s criminal trespassing, and it’s disrespectful.  One of our neighboring clubs is on the verge of losing a main corridor trail because of this nonsense.  These aren’t idle threats, it’s really happening.  Stay on the trail, or stay home.

TRAIL CLOSURE NOTICE:  Due to ongoing logging operations, the Barnstormer’s trail #51 is CLOSED between TIN 344 and 353!  DO NOT RIDE THIS SECTION OF TRAIL!

Mark your calendars for the following Barnstormer Fundraising Events!

Saturday, February 4, 2023:  Annual Chili Dump – Join us at Murmuring Waters from 2:00 – 5:00 for our Annual Chili Dump.

Sunday, February 19, 2023:  Pizza Fundraiser – Join us at The Hillside Tavern and Grill from 4:00 – 8:00 for our Pizza Fundraiser!

Boulder Junction Snowmobile Club Trail Report – Monday, 1/30/2023
At 8:00 a.m. it’s -9 degrees out with sunny skies.

We groomed 15N and 6E last night and 8E, 11, and 15S early this morning. 2W and 8W will be groomed this afternoon. This morning our driver grooming 15S reported the trail as being very rough and did his best to smooth it out.

We have seen moderate to heavy traffic in the area. Last week we had 2,961 sleds go past our trail counter with a season total of 12,002.

And now I have some sad news. Since last Thursday, we have had 4 snowmobile fatalities in our surrounding area. The latest being yesterday on trail 17 in Arbor Vitae. Please slow down and always ride right for your safety and others approaching you.

And another word of caution. There have been numerous reports of off trail riding on state and private property adjacent to our area trails. This has to stop or else we may lose these trails.

Look for an updated report on Wednesday, February 1.
