EAGLE RIVER TRAILS
Good

Trail conditions are mostly Good with some Very Good but are very icy under the very soft SNOW due to the typical February warm up.  That combination makes your sled slip around a lot.  Very icy corners. Please remember to RIDE RIGHT & SLOW DOWNWith the changing conditions you can get into trouble quickly. The level of traffic is not what it was over the weekend but there are large groups riding.

Did SNOW last night but most was sleet early with snow after the temps came down.  A schiff of SNOW this morning, which is less than an inch.  More SNOW in the northern part of Vilas County. February warm up 30’s during the day.  20’s at night.  Forecast for SNOW Thursday night.  Time for a THINK COLD & a SNOW DANCE!

Did not ride yesterday.  Did ride this weekend along with lots of others.  Highest traffic I’ve seen in a while.  Trails all in all were very good in the AM until early afternoon.  One thing I am seeing is off trail riding.  This is illegal & is making it hard to keep the trails open.  Plenty of loose SNOW on the trails so no need to dip off.

As for grooming here is last night’s into this morning’s grooming report:

  • Heading south – Trail 10/13 through town.  South on Alt13S to Three Lakes connect.
  • Heading north – Trail 10W/13N to 17N intersection.  Heading north on 17N to Trail 3N aka Manske Swamp intersection.  NOTE the rest of 10W/13N was groomed to the Conover connect.  Trail 3N west to 10W/13N intersection & north crossing the Wisconsin River Bridge section of 10W/13N.  At the west end of the Wisconsin River Bridge both 10W & 7 that intersects with 10W all groomed.  Heading north on 13N all groomed.

Eagle & Catfish Lake trails are marked.  Please stay by the orange reflective barrels. Surface is very hard with moguls. With the warm up surface slush will develop at some point. SLOW DOWN. Remember not all lakes are safe.

Again, off trail riding is a big problem.  PLEASE STAY ON THE TRAIL & Take the Snowmobilers Pledge.

Keep DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE!!  Slow down & Ride Safe!

See ya on the trails!

Trail Report – : Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin – February 5, 2023

Reporter:Toulish1

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 2-6″

Date of Report: February 5, 2023

Snowmobile Information:

Another heavy weekend. 17 up in the Powell Marsh is thin at the bridge. Sleds are starting to bypass the bridge and go around in the marsh. Some stones are showing on the rest of the grade there. Trail 5 into the casino is good. 17 through the switchbacks around Raven Lake has bare corners, and the banks are getting smaller. We continue to pull down what we can but the snow is getting tired. 17 south from Raven Lake is starting to hold what we groom a little better now that it is warmer, so the rumble strips do not come back as fast. We need snow, but we are holding our own. Lakes had a little drifting so there are a few moguls, but the icy railroad tracks we had from the slush are gone. Fence Lake is NOT marked, and won’t be. Not sure if the boss will start a staggered stand down on grooming yet, but we may be getting there. Looks like Monday is OK at 31/8 – with 1-2″ snow, but Tues 35/30, Wed 42/22, and Thurs 40/21. Sunshine predicted mid week with the warm temps. We will see what shakes out. Mark
