Area Report:
We have groomed all of our trails Friday and Saturday nights. There was a ton of sled traffic with the Derby going on and the Holiday on Monday. Took some work to get the trails flat again and pull the corners down.
Seems that during busy times like this weekend, riders don’t know what to do when they come upon a groomer on the trail. I had several sleds ride right up to the front blade and looked at me like deer in headlights. When you see the groomer, look for a safe spot to get off the trail. If the groomer has room, we will move over as far as we can, dim/flash the headlights to indicate it is safe to pass the groomer and drag. Pass slow and safely.
The temps next week are supposed to be very cold. If you are out riding, dress warm and make sure your sled is in good running condition. You don’t want to have a breakdown in these cold temps.
Watch out for the large ice heave on North Twin Lake. It is marked with signs, barrels, and green flashing beacons. Please slow down and cross next to the barrels.

Area Report:
A huge THANK YOU to Stillwaters for hosting our annual breakfast fundraiser yesterday, and to all who showed up to support the Sayner Barnstormers! The food was incredible (as always)!
Over the past few days, we’ve had anywhere from 5″ to 8″ of fresh snow. We wish it would have had some moisture in it to help it stick to the trails, but we’ll take what we can get. Trails have been grooming out nicely every night. If you are a morning rider, you’ve been experiencing some really great riding. By afternoon, heavy traffic takes it’s toll and things get bumpier, especially on the busier trails like 7N out of Star Lake.
We will continue grooming nightly. With the drop in temps expected this week, I’m anticipating the same trail conditions; they’ll be great in the mornings, but get bumpier quickly since there isn’t much moisture in the snow.
Remember, if you aren’t able to keep your sled on your side of the trail as you enter corners, you’re going too fast and putting the safety of others at risk! You can drive too slow many times, but you may only drive too fast once! SAFETY TRUMPS EGO!
Ride RIght & Ride Safe!
Mark your calendars for these upcoming Barnstormer events:
Saturday, February 7 – Chili dump at The Murm from 2:00 – 5:00.
Sunday, February 15 – Pizza fundraiser at Hillside Tavern from 4:00 – 8:00.
Saturday, March 14 – Drawing for Snowmobile Raffle at Sayner Pub at 5:00!

The Langlade County Snowmobile clubs, sponsors, and operators of the existing trails, have put in many volunteered hours brushing, signing, and grooming to provide snowmobile trails for your use. Please support the snow clubs, thank them for their efforts and patronized their business sponsors.
All lake trails in Langlade County are considered unsafe and should not be utilized until they have been clearly marked by a local snowmobile club. As always, the Langlade County Forestry, Parks & Recreation Department recommends riders stay on clearly marked trails, ride safe and ride “right”.
The snowmobile clubs spend a considerable amount of time working with landowners to be able to provide the exceptional trail system we have. Please respect private property and the efforts of the clubs to access private property; use of trails across private lands is a privilege. Always exercise caution when riding a snowmobile, the trails are in early season condition and are variable across the County depending upon snow depth and base thickness. Trail Conditions: Fair
Snow Cover: 6 – 8 ” Base
Date of Report: January 16, 2026
Area Report:
At this time ALL Trails in Washburn County are now officially open. With the recent snow accumulations trails are now packed and groomed and now have a sustainable trail base. Additional snow accumulations have helped the trails out tremendously and grooming reports have been coming in with positive feedback. All trails across the County are fair in condition. Remember that grooming and maintenance activities continue throughout the season. Use caution while riding, watch for trail equipment, and enjoy the trails responsibly. If you encounter any trail issues such as downed trees, limbs, or debris, please report them to Washburn County Forestry at 715-635-4490.
Please be advised that on 1/1/2026 there was an incident on Long Lake, off of the boat landing on Blackhawk Road. The ice conditions at this time are very poor and a snowmobile broke through the ice at this location while out riding. At this time no trail route is marked out on Long Lake. The County does not have jurisdiction on Long Lake and is not responsible for marking out a trail across the lake, even though certain sections of Washburn County Snowmobile trails lead to accessing Long Lake, Washburn County Forestry does not maintain anything past the high ground point. Please use caution if you are out on any lake as they are not yet 100% safe
